EvE Online is a great game. However, some of the posts I've read lately make pretty good points about a direction and focus on other projects, WoD and DUST, that have 0% playerbase at the moment and currently brings in no income. NONE.

Now, based on that piece of FACTUAL DATA...

Why not provide a "Plan of Action" or something to help your loyal memberbase (some of us for quite a few years now) feel comfortable in knowing that the game we have invested much of our free time enjoying isn't being placed on the back burner for newer projects.

I understand that you do provide some information to the playerbase, but I see a large amount of gagging players and locking threads anytime anyone really wants a decent answer (although some people have a poor approach). We aren't all a bunch of adolescents, this is just a measure some of us use to occupy otherwise wasted time after work, at work, or invest welfare(?). Some people watch TV, movies, pron, whatever... Some of us play EvE.

I've seen similar posts, sure this may be ignored, but if not, I appreciate it.

Because such a plan of action would portray a ... how to put this.. unflattering view of CCP.

And there are other views of CCP at the moment?

I don't think they can give us a direct answer, because if they are honest about the state of things it will probably lead to dropped subscriptions. I suspect they have overextended themselves on development of other (perhaps higher-growth) projects, leaving only a small art team and a skeleton crew to manage EVE. That would explain the focus on NEX - a way to raise money using the few people they have available, holding out until their top devs are done with WoD/DUST. Gameplay changes are likely to be few and far between; a recent interview suggests hybrids won't be looked at until after Christmas, for example. Nullsec changes are also likely to come late this year. Major changes to the UI and planet interaction have to be made in tandem with DUST development, so I'd expect to wait until development reaches the point of integrating DUST and EVE.

I don't think they want to say anything that will encourage players to take a 6-month break from the game, when they need to keep money coming in to fund their new projects. Players often complain in these forums about their EVE subs paying for other games, but the reality is that a company needs to keep growing and evolving, or die. EVE is really niche, it's hard to grow the subscription base. I can see why they'd want to work on some games with more mass appeal. Besides, if CCP dies, so does EVE.

Would you believe them if they did? At this point I sure wouldn't.

I cut the quote a bit to prevent an over-the-top wall of text.

I can agree that EvE is a niche game. Most every game is a niche game. WoW/WoT/COD/... all have an interest that appeals to a select group of people. EvE Online has had :fairly: steady growth since its inception. Minor drops over time, but there will always be new players discovering EvE, who enjoy the great graphics, who enjoy the Sci-Fi background, who absolutely adore the learning curve...

The point is that they could put out some of these "promises" to attempt to appease the memberbase enough to pursue their other ambitions as a corporation without losing subscriptions. Yes, Incarna was sought by some, but CQ is probably not what they expected.

How about the ships from the "concept art" competition? What was it, the Tornado? And ofcourse, the fixes to many of the bugs and issues we are facing in the game at the moment.

Who really wants to buy a product that is half baked, maybe works for a short time decently, then crashes randomly when you try to use it? "games with more mass appeal" I can promise you, that if CCP continues to neglect the playerbase and their game, then EvE will lose its appeal.

A noble cause to be sure. However, CCP CEO has declared that EVE is their golden goose.

What does this mean?

This means that from the TOP DOWN (trickle-down theory), CCP will no longer be making an awesome game. They will be making a game to milk you of money. And then you can explain to your friends and family why you actually spent $5 for boots or $80 for a monocle.

How embarrassing.

Eve may be dead soon, what with all the bullcrap going on lately.

Soak up as much fun in the game as you can before it happens.

NeX is optional - it has absolutely no bearing on the gameplay. Even CCP Soundwave has said that much during my interview with him at PAX Prime (although that isn't explicitly stated in the document I released).

It's up to you to decide if you want to buy the garbage from NeX or not.

Ask again once Dust is out. Even if CCP still cares about Eve Dust is sucking down resources at an alarming rate and the console market is intolerant of delays or dated graphics and game-play. They need to get that puppy out ASAP.

Let me stop you right there. See there is this place called outside, and outside there these places called game stores, and they sell this gaming books for Table top RPGS called Vampire the Masquerade and Vampire Requiem. Now see when those people buy those books, the profits go to CCP: White wolf, which intern pays for WOD. So they are already part of the WoD player base. Also, The Grand Masquerade is also for everyone in support of WoD development. WoD already has it's niche player base ready and willing to go.

Also if you bought vampire the masquerade bloodlines on steam a few weekends ago when it was on sale, that money went to CCP also, which inturn also pays for development.

and finally, OF COURSE IT BRINGS IN 0 income you dumbass! It's still in development! Do you think EvE online was making money before it was released? ****en hell does anyone in the forums know how software development and business works? you know op. just stop posting. leave eve, and go back to wow and whine there.

Someone go find CCP Mitnal and bribe him with whatever to come back to the forums. We need his banhammer forum mod style.

If you think the "top devs" are working on WOD and DUST, games that are inherently different and use totally different graphics capabilities than EVE, then CCP is in a sad place indeed. If Incarna was the best they could do for 3rd person view avatars and "walking in stations" then the consumers of such future products as WOD and DUST are in for some very fun claymation avatars.

Also, if CCP did give a real and honest plan of action, it would only hurt subs more than they already have and kill the income for their pet projects. ""We have assigned most of our newly hired and veteran staff to new projects that have yet to yield any revenues. As such, additions on our current (and only) profitable product will be small and far between (CQ released in bits). The NEX store is an effort to create maximum income from EVE with minimal effort because with the code in place all it really leaves is a 1 man art department to leech the idiots of their cash. Also, because our features and developments department has run out of ideas and thoroughly screwed the game up with their past few major changes (sov, supers, no-content expos) they have been forced into screwing up our future games instead.

EVE won't be the downfall of CCP: their stillborn experiments in crowd pleasing FPS and MMO will be.

Confirming PC based MMO with TBA release dates have a 100% compatibility rating with Pen and Paper games of underwhelming popularity and no name recognition.
