First off, posting with an alt to protect future trade runs.

Yesterday I went on an AFK trade run from Jita to another market hub in an Iteron V. When coming back to my screen I found myself at my destination, albeit in a pod. My combat log revealed that I had been ganked in a 0.6 system along the way by a Typhoon and a Thrasher.

So far, nothing wrong or strange about that (my financial losses were rather low and are not an issue). What I found interesting, however, was that the Typhoon pilot had a -10.0 security status. My question is how a -10.0 pilot could even BE in a 0.6 system without being destroyed by CONCORD. Never having done any suicide ganking myself, the only explanation I can think of is that he was cloaked. Now, assuming that was the case, wouldn't he have had to decloak, then target me before he shot at me? Considering that he was in a Battleship, wouldn't the targeting process alone take so long that now decloaked, CONCORD would spot him, then kill him? Any other explanations how he pulled it off?

You can't cloak when you're being hunted by a faction navy, as all -10 peeps are in high sec. He could probably tank the navy NPCs, or was just warping around until he was needed to perform the gank. CONCORD won't shoot someone who hasn't initiated a criminal act. Merely being in high sec with a -10 sec status is not punishable by CONCORD.

Sorry for your loss. Maybe I can be of assistance with your future trade runs? Just let me know when you undock and where you are heading, and I'll scout for you.

Being -10 (or -4.5 for that matter) and entering highsec will not get you CONCORDAKKEN'd. CONCORD only respond if someone commits a criminal act (gets a GCC) in highsec space.

It's the NPC Faction Navy that attack pilots with the appropriate negative sec status and as far as I know they can be tanked.

That pretty much clears it up. As to those Navy NPCs, would a -10.0 player who shows himself at a 0.6 gate without actually attacking anything have to face the sentry guns and the Navy ships already around the gate only, or would additional Navy ships warp in as soon as he is spotted near the gate?

I've never seen sentry guns fire on people with criminal status in high sec unless they go GCC on a gate. Maybe I just never stuck around long enough to observe it, but I'm fairly sure that the sentry guns won't fire automatically on a loiterer with a criminal status.

Unless you're an outlaw in CONCORD sov, where the faction navy are normal CONCORD ships, so you get GCC for being shot by them.

The faction navy are pretty easy to outrun, unless you park your ass on a gate or station.

The -10 was ina pod faction police and concord disregard pods no matter the sec,He had a neutral scan your ship. The -10 has an alt/corp mate haul in a gank bs plus fits.Once you landed on gate (15k off autopilot ftw) his alt watched as oyu slowly apporached.Once at about 5k he jumped into his alpha bs and warped to the gate you would be appearing from.Tank the guns jus long enough to kill you then gets his ship exploded. He prolly didnt have enough alpha to kill you so in warps alt/buddy 2 to finish you off.Next he has the neut/buddy orca warp in and scoop your loot.

And so on...Happens all the time.No more autopilot,Doit in an orca passive tanked if you must.
Couple things to remember. If someone wants you dead your dead.T1 haulers have no tank.Even the tank you fit isnt enough to counter a couple alpha ships as you see.Never haul anything worth more than the ship your hauling with.Hide your stuff in layers of courier contracts.Or in containers which can be scanned but do not tell the ganker whats inside.

Ive had a few luls just in buyin a hauler and puttin in cans named Sleeper loot,Faction etc. just to make myself look stupid.(which i am btw)And watch them waste 100's of mills on gank haulers with nothing in them. The tears are priceless. Not to mention the times the gankers completly fail and your ship gets away. Those are the best. These are jus language pixels im typing to you.How you use them to your advantage is up to you.But needless to say,
Stop auto-piloting squishy ships.ugh

With inerta stabs a pirate like me could do it in a BS... tho it sounds fun to go back into empire and randomly gank somebody and have them be like wtf. I like to pvp in real combat. However tempting for the lol'z.

If your -10 and DO NOT have ggc you can go to high sec in a BS and below, the first thing that will happen, if concord catches you, is that you will be webbbed and thus enter warp faster.

Second, he 1 volleys you with 2 TP's and a rack of torps

Stop doing this and you won't get ganked so easily.

QFT.

This is one of the unwritten rules in EVE:
Don't haul valuable goods afk in a T1 hauler. I personally define "valuable" as one of two possible definitions:
1) More than 20m ISK
2) It would bother me if I lost it.

the best way to do it is get a crazy tank T3, load it with awesome stuff and park yourself on the jita >> perimiter gate, sit back and watch the fireworks

I got locked by a bunch of destroyers after jumping into a .7 system in Lonetrek right after DT the other day. 5 seconds later my Iteron Mk IV warped.

I kinda scratched my head and went "wtf, why am I still alive?" Took them a good 10 seconds to lock me. So no sebos. No BS on gate either. Fail gankers? Or they decided a bunch of GSCs, Tobacco, and Garbage wasn't worth it.

In any event, I still can't understand why they would even bother if they didn't have the alpha. Lot of fail people these days.

AP is for fools, or those who are so spacerich they just don't care. I never use it.

Maybe they were busy reading the "Proceed with this dangerous act..." question.

Concord will only kill you if you are in their sov space, or have GCC when -10.
