is this used at all?

I plan on training my alt into siege warfare link specialist lvl 4 in order to give the fleet some good shield bonuses.

But is this used are they invited into fleets?
will the orca pilot leach from the rewards?
I will use the orca for refitting if necessary and as a ammo depot.

Is this a good option?

Most of us use command ships for boosting, since they are better for it. And no if the booster isnt at the site or at the gate it wont leech any rewards.

Most of the time you wont need to refit or stock up on ammo, if you do there are stations so you wont really save much time.

Yah I was thinking about command ships, sadly he aint qualified to fly one and training into one would take time away from his other more important training.

Also I plan on dual boxing with a basi and maelstrom I just intend on parking him in system and using him as a booster.

I assume it will work because the orca can use three links at once. We'll see how it goes.

if you use comand processors you can fit more links

i was in a fleet that had a 7 link booster

epic boosts :)

Are you talking about the actual module? Those are my intentions (edit) I thought you were referring to the ganglinks.

Can a command processor be installed into the mids of an orca?

Seems like it will work on an orca because it is in fact a capital industrial ship and command processors are intended for this type of ship.

Interesting!

Gang links are high slot modules. The Orca has 3 high slots. It can already run 3 gang links.

What does this tell us about Orcas and command processors?

Command processor is a mid slot module.

I thought by adding the command processor would open up an aditional high slot additionally to the three already there.

hmmmmm EVE where you learn something new everyday.

Yeah, um, no. It just lets you turn on one more of the gang links you already have fitted. Since, you know, BCs can only run one at a time (even if they could fit as many as their high slots, powergrid, and CPU allowed).

Just keep using the orca with it's 3 links untill you can get into a T3.
Fill the midslot with command processor's, Fill the high slot with what ever links suite your needs best.

T3 gets a better bonus then the command ship +5% per lvl v's +3% per lvl, Also alot faster to train for.

The orca is a superb support ship. Fill it with ammo at cheaper hub prices then when you at an incursion site you do not have to pay over the odds for ammo.

Pretty much any player / ship is able to provide boosts, it's just that improved skills, certain equipment, and certain ships improve the boosts provided. A good booster is a powerful force augmenter ... mine provides our shield fleets with around 25% additional EHP, 5 - 10% higher resists across the board, and way-improved shield transfer / booster performance, as well as a combination of four other augmentations (such as EW range and effectiveness).

A number of ships have bonuses to help fleet boosters. These include T3s, command ships, orcas, and some other capital ships. Basic T1 battlecruisers have a bonus to allow warfare links to be fitted, but the performance of those links are not bonused. For pure-boost (non-mining) performance the best hisec ships are the four fleet command ships*, for mining it's the orca.

Fleet Command Ships (vulture, damnation, eos, & claymore) can each fit three warfare links without needing any command processors, and 7 if you fit them with co-processors and command processors (claymore has 8 high slots so may be able to fit 8, but I've not tried this). They also have a mode-specific bonus, +3% per skill level, based on the command ship skill level. So a vulture flown by a pilot with command ship V offer +15% effectiveness of Siege Warfare Links. If you add-in a siege warfare mindlink then you get some pretty powerful shield boosting.

Similarly the damnation bonuses favour armor warfare links, eos information, and claymore skirmish ... much as you'd probably expect.

A maximal-skill, mindlinked, 7-warfare-link, fleet command ship is a very powerful fleet booster ... but is not a terribly good earner for incursions. People seem happy to have a booster offgrid (not earning) but not terribly many incursion FCs seem to want this assistance at the expense of another fleet member ... and some already have their own booster alt in the fleet. Most of the incursion work I've obtained with such an uber-booster has been for HQ fleets ... and generally my logistics (basi/sleip) support is way, way more popular and in-demand. Outside of incursions I have found such a booster to be a fantastic help for soloing C4 w-space sites.

* T3 command bonuses are more-per-level but they cannot fit the number and diversity of modules as a fleet command ship. So, skill-for-skill, t3 gives stronger boosts while FCS gives more boosts ... and T3 is way-easier to train for.

The intention is within a week or two to be triple boxing in a fleet.

One basi, one mael and the ganglinked orca off grid.

I can run the basi and mael just fine (dual screen setup) and leave the orca parked without much interaction other than boosting.

Good information posted here. Thanks.

dualboxing a logi in an incursion fleet is not a good idea i think

i fly a guardian in VG and in OTA blitz you need to pay attention else you lose ships and that is really bad idea

i agree with bartos.

I know ppl do it, but I wouldn't be keen to run my expensive DPS ships relying on dual-box logis during incursions. Unless the fleet is oversupplied with logis or otherwise inefficiently run, the logi role is a pretty busy one ... and when the logis lose the plot, for whatever reason, ppl can very quickly start losing ships.

Fine to try for your own semi-solo fleets though, and I would be very interested in your results as i have been thinking of trying the same myself.

your multitasking skills will increase with experience. When I first started dual-boxing with a logistics ship, I had a hell of a time. now It's second nature.

That being said, I don't recommend running two logistics at the same time due to the possibility of a internet disconnect.
