As a person who used to play Ultima and WoW and did frequent the forums of both, I can safely say that you guys are easily the most fear-mongering, hysterical, flammable bunch of MMO nerds I have ever seen.

I know your beloved video game company made a change that you didn't like. I know that they added embarrassingly little real content in the last big patch. Game companies do this. Origin has done this. Blizzard has done this. IT IS NOT THE END OF GAMING AS WE KNOW IT.

Thanks.

As many of us that have been playing since '03, '04...

Back then, we saw the possibilities of this game. Over the next few years we saw it going in that general direction..

Then we started to see Eve's decline.

We are now in a game that is near nothing like it was supposed to be.

Newer players will never understand this and will always look at us as kneckbeards that can do nothing but whine.

Yeah idk how you missed it but I was talking about the players, and comparing them to other MMO players.

The players' response to CCP's actions is what you were talking about. A long-term understanding of CCP's relationship to the playerbase is an essential part of making a judgment about the playerbase's response to CCP's actions.

If you think for one second that WoW players haven't been rage-quitting and predicting it's demise since 05' you are crazy. Every MMO developer has to deal with try-hards that can't handle a patch or a change without throwing a tantrum on the forums. I'm just saying that you guys seem to be the worst I've experienced thus far. Perhaps I haven't been playing long enough to fully understand how wronged you guys have been. Or maybe you are just butthurt like every other MMO player on every other MMO forum.

You played two crappy games.

The ultima franchise with lord british was like a child's checker set compared to games now. Whatever happened in that game is so irrelevant to the current state of games that your opinions don't matter.

Don't compare this game to WOW... WOW is already on a path to Runequest ... enough said there

This game still has real elements competitive and cooperative gameplay that we are hoping to salvage.

I do understand, that not having been there, newer players will never comprehend our angst.

I do not fault you for being a newer player and respectfully ask that you not fault me for experiencing the beginning process of this game and being unhappy with Eve's current state.

You are noting the simplicity of a game that was the primary precursor to your game as well as every other game in this genre. You are also comparing what is far and away the most successful and profitable game ever made to the forgotten competitor of D&D. How do either of those things make sense? I mean I know you tossed in the "enough said there" to seal the deal, but I'm really not being sold on either of these points in any way.

Psh. WoW is not a sandbox. Players add nothing to the game. They never can get ****ed over the same way EVE players can and did.

Part of the problem with EVE is the people that play it now compared to those who played it a few years ago.

Warcraftians.

You have got six month old players in droves on here, laughing and pointing at anyone older than them who is leaving the game, telling them the game is better off without them. When was this ever our EVE? When I started the game, people would educate their victims or the losing side more often than not, and encourage them to keep fighting the good fight because the game thrives on people picking up the pieces and never giving up. There are not endless amounts of subscribers for this game, and it is inevitable that it will become aged enough that at least some amount of newer players will stay away from it simply because of the connotation of age. When everything in popular culture is about bright, shiny, new, fancy things, what kid is going to pick up a game older than he is, hoping to find something new and exciting? Think about it before you shove all the old timers out the door telling yourselves this game is better off without them. There will not always be bodies to replace those subscribers.

Now anyone who so much as farts in the general direction of these forums is told to gtfo and never come back.

Bad subscriber base is bad.

I just love it when you guys sub up for a few weeks and decide you're an expert on all things EVE.

You can go back to the "WoW" forums and Hello Kitty Online, or, and I suspect this is probably something from your not-so-distant childhood, "Poptropica" forums.

In any case, you should first and foremost STFU. You don't get EVE? Fine. You don't understand the angst and anger CCP's subscriber base feels about the change in their business and customer service model? That's fine too.

Don't be an ass and insult the entire community.

I'm willing to bet you're the kind of person that sits around and comes up with sparkling cocktails of whitty repartee' for MMO forums because you can't be that creative with the opposite sex.

The only thing this community will turn on faster than each other is a newcomer / outsider who has ZERO clue and trolls the forums from go. So.....

STFU and go find that new forum.

My memory only goes back to 2005, and I do sorta remember a time when the forums were mostly good natured flames, posts about insta-popping each other in small gang pvp, and the LOL fit / kill of the day. Times are a-changing.

I think you guys need to visit the wow forums once in a while and realize that the only difference between you and them is quantity and average amount of butthurt per player. Also perhaps a certain level of pretentious hipsterism.

I only go back to very early '08 and I still remember how amazing the C&P was back then, and that even though we had 'go back to Warcraft' memes, they were not nearly as ubiquitous as they are these days. It just is not nearly as fun anymore as it was, I do not enjoy these people nearly as much as I did when I started, why would I?

Just wait for it, at least a poster or two will tell me to get out and never come back, even though I am actually quite content with the game in and of itself and my friends I have in it.

Now you are showing your ignorance though, and I mean that in the most literal sense, that you have no understanding of the linear history of these forums even for the past few years, so your understanding of the scope of the problem is extremely limited as others have been saying. I however, feel that your scope is not limited solely by looking at the problems and making generalizations, but looking at the problems and not having an understanding of how they have evolved over time.

Not everything is due to either the game's development progression or subscriber base over time exclusively but a mix of everything in between. Something you would not have knowledge of.

^ This.

OP, you haven't invested the time and patience into this game that the older players have. This isn't a "level up over a weekend" game. EVE is the most successful MMO ever because it's player base was dedicated to it and took pride in the fact that this game had a steep learning curve, and that the game would eat you alive if you didn't learn fast.

You don't know this. You will never know this.

btw - Your use of "Hipsterism" indicates your lack of EVE knowledge. Most veteran EVE players proudly consider themselves to be "MMO Elitists".

This is probably a fair assessment. I won't try to generalize and say that Eve players have always been this way because I haven't been around here for very long. Are there forums that I can go to, though, that aren't a nonstop self-important circlejerk whinefest?
