Albatross Launching Fighter-Interceptors

Hull
Albatross

Ship Size
Super Battleship Tier 1

Class
Escort Carrier

Role
Gate capable Anti-fighter and light fighter support.

History
Commissioned during the planning for the invasion of Caldari Prime. This minature capitol ship would be able to bring in capitol support to a system that had cyno field countermeasures in hopes of leveling the field in a capitol dominated area belonging to the enemy.

The ship is especially designed with new telemetry navigation and advanced fire link controls to deploy high speed fighter-interceptors who specialize in fighting other fighters and drones.

Because of its down sizing in order to not overmass the gates. All additional support bays where removed and logistics cabailities where better left to other specialized subcapitol ships.

She still functions as an impromtu carrier able to launch the standard fighters but not in many numbers as it cannot equip additional control links. To make up for some of the weaknesses its able to sport a limited number of battleship sized weapons as well for self defense.

No, not stupid.

It's just a piece of artwork, and pretty nice too, I think.

+1 to OP for the art. :)

Well lets see, fighter is doing a combat landing to refuel, rearm, or just getting back home because his atmo tanks are leaking and is going full speed over the landing area and it takes it some time for it to slow down unless you got some very large inertia dampeners installed on the flight deck.

BTW all current carriers in the game have landing strips and catapults.

Also thanks to space and this carrier happens to have 4 catapults or two landing areas one top side and one underneath the other. So while one is recovering craft the other side can be launching.

Most of the other carriers and supercarriers have a form of 'landing strip', though much shorter. Many other sci-fi series do it too.

Also this ship is almost the same size as a Rohk Battleship, so the landing strip would be 'comparable' to a full size carrier in the game.

Looks nice, just learn a bit of composition from renaissance painters and place stuff following the mean of Phidias (or mean ratio).

It looks a bit like a landing strip attached to a myrm. Anyway, nice work.

'Fighter-Interceptors' are new fighter drones exclusive to the escort carrier class they are specifically designed to target smaller ships such as drones and other fighters and possibly frigates. They are fast and able to 'dogfight' an option not avaialble to standard fighters. If you sick them on a hostile carrier the fighter interceptors will prioritize all the drones/fighters launched by the carrier before attacking the 'mothership' itself.

According to deviant art since 2006 in my spare time. Which it still is only in my spare time even today.

One thing you have to understand that I am never happy with my artwork until the day I can match and par off against eve online concept work, then once that is acomplished Ill start building up in another field of work I guess probably people.

My next ship is another 'super-battleship' but a tier 2 or the mini-dread (still looking for that cool name to use) unfourtunately eve online artist redid how the XL blaster looks so I have to redesign the ship to accomidate for the changes, so it will be a while.

leme suggest a few things to the albatross,

~add a top part on the landing strip making it a viable space hangar (even though there ARE landing strips on some of the caps, it still doesn't make sense to do it, it makes refueling fighters and what not much more vulnerable to fire.

~maybe more evenly placed thrusters, the physics and looks on those thrusters look like it'll flip the in an uneven angle. ofc, this would be remedied if you follow #1 and make the top cover wide enough to cover the current thruster's look.

~add some more armament, since its caldari make any missile launchers stand out. sure its a sub cap carrier, but at least let it look like it has some anti-fighter armament aside from just housing its own fighters.

I should have probably put an armored cover for both top and bottom hangers and it would still have kept the sleek profile instead of putting the hangerbays beneath the super sturcture.

Eve engines according to lore buffs are functionally gravity pull engines. Hence water physics in Eve which is why so many ships get away with uneven thrustr displacment. This concludes that all the 'thrusters' are just exhaust and contribute minmally to overall mass movement.

Armaments for this ship include 2 Large guns and 3 Torpedo/Cruise Missile Launchers + 5 Drones/Fighters. however due to the size of the ship they're extremly hard to see any of the mounting points and I didnt want to 'preinstall' any launchers as eve developers may eventually give launchers thier own turrets one day.

I may not be able to get a wave motion gun installed on a battleship hull but Ill come up with something pertty close.

Doesn't seem that "Albatross" would be a very auspicious name for a ship class.. Shocked

I really rather like your ship. Always thought eve could be done with smaller Carriers and smaller freighters.

As for landing strips in space aint that exactly whats on the Aeon ?

I originally had a span that went between the two engines on the top side not sure why I removed it, I think it had to do with it not being that angular and looking odd and out of place dunno.

Well Im still working on the SOE ships once Im all done I'll do my final polish on the idea then present to the CSM for approval-ish maybe then will it get ccp's attention until then I got numbers to crunch and real life to deal with.

Afterwards I'll work on code-breaker full profession next as it needs much much more love than the salvager profession does now.

Currently woking on another super battleship class ship, the tier 2 is going to be the 'pocket' dreadnaught and I'm still at odds what to actually name the hull class specifically (ie Albatross is an Escort Carrier.)

Looking at history places no class of ship between battleship to dreadnaughts other than a 'pre'-dreadnaught which is the antiquated battleships the dreads replaced and all following ships of the line inherited the classification as a dreadnaught until the arrival of the ill fated mordern battleships which the airplane saw to the dethroned of fleet center. The term 'pocket' battleship was coined by the british to a an extremly heavy cruiser ship back in the days.

Though I would love to use 'pocket' dreadnaught the super battleship classes are almost 2x larger than most battleships and wouldnt exactly fit right, also from my point of view pocket just doesnt have the oumph needed to describe the class. Seige Barge did come to mind but, Dust players are getting that ship now. However one 'fictional' ship that was never contructed was known as an Arsenal Ship and I'm beginning to lean twoards this one.

Arsenal Ships where a concotion of the US navy that never came to be after the congress downsizing of the navy. The concept was to have a ship capable of launching many guided munitions in a single event than entire fleet can lob out greatly increasing assest destructibility and lowering counter responses and interceptions. USN almost began construction of one and slated her as the BB-72 indicating that this ship would be the battleship of the new millenium.
