I just spent 3 hours looking for something other than mining belts and wormholes and I finally find a Angel Hideout.

But I couldn't enter with my Tengu, I couldn't enter it! No matter how much I tried, I couldn't go in! Is this what exploration is all about!? I think I'll go back to doing Level 4 missions.

Stop derailing the thread you guys; the primary issue here is whether or not he was able to enter the site.

I have to believe exploration isn't broken......yet.

It does seem to be extremely buggy ever since the Incarna expansion and has probably been stealth nerfed almost to death.

If it took you 3 hrs to find something else other than w-holes and Grav sites, go to a different area.

As for that combat site you found, try reading the gate message next time. It clearly states what ship class is allowed access. That site allows Frigate, Destroyer Class and their T2 versions.

Obviously there's a few things to remember when it comes to exploration:

Proper Planing Prevents Poor Performance.
Expect the worst and hope for the best.
Failure is not an option.
Evelopedia is info.

And above all else:

Exploration - It's not just an adventure, it's a job.

Seriously, like a job in real life that gives regular base pay for 40 hrs along with overtime pay and bonus pay.

Regular pay is the Radar and Magnetometric sites.
Overtime pay is the Anomaly's, 'Unknown' combat sites and hidden DED Complexes.
Bonus pay is the Commander NPC spawns at Anomaly's, DED complexes and combat sites along with the Expeditions gained from those.

As an Explorer, you're an 'Independent Contractor' going from system to system doing your job for regular pay, always looking for overtime pay and hope for bonus pay.

You should look at the area you do exploration in as a company. Some areas will have lot's of work available while others barely have any. The trick is to find a few areas or companies that have a lot of work available and make those your dedicated routes which should keep you very busy.

'Tools of the Trade' are high exploration skill levels and top equipment with your ship set up to quickly scan and complete the various exploration sites 'On the Fly' without having to switch ships or refit very often.

Have a 'Base of Operation' centrally located in each area to quickly rearm, refit, switch ships and unload loot asap. Time lost is ISK lost due to a lot of competition, especially on the weekends. Always refer to the Star Map stats when looking for new areas.

Exploration - It's not just an adventure, it's a job.

^^^ this....

Exploration takes persistence and patience. It's not giving up after 4 dry systems when the 5th can be a jackpot.

I've had days where I could only find grav and drone sites and I've had days where I've found more ded plexes than I had time to run.

You can't enter a hideout in a cruiser.

Every once in a while you do post helpful advice. This is definitely NOT one of those times.

It may seem stupid to you since you obviously don't understand it.

By the way, Exploration is NOT Eve's gambling system.

Sure it is. That doesn't mean it can't be a job — it all comes down to how you approach it: gambling or grinding.

Your job theory is dumb. Simple as that.

Missions are a job. Exploration is more like playing the lottery or hitting the casino.

Your little 'breakdown" of pay is dumb in itself. I and many others...don't run radars or mags. So according to your little theory, I don't get regular pay.

There's also plenty of explorers that don't limit themselves to an area. Guess they are freelance or self employed?

Honestly telling people its a job is only going to breed more "well how do I do this site?," "well what should I fit for this," and "escalations in low sec are scary and my job is at risk!" Its exploration. It is an adventure. And it involves a lot of dice rolling and crossing your fingers, with plenty of disappointment and the occasional jackpot.

I suppose farming anomalies could be a "job" but...just because you use a scanner to find them, doesn't really make it exploration.

Exploration was recently nerfed. The Nerf was so bad that in order to find anything of value you need to go to deep null or w space.

Sad but what can I say it's :ccp:

I'm obviously missing something here. You're flying a tengu in hisec, finding lots of wormholes, and complaining that you're not able to enter a ****y angel site that is designed to only allow T1 and 2 frigs / destroyers. Ummm, it seems to me that it's not exploration that's broken here.

The majority of the wormholes that you're complaining about will be leading to systems where you can easily solo the anoms in your tengu and gather heaps more stuff than in any of the hisec sites you're likely to meet ... even if you don't salvage.

Perhaps hisec exploration has been nerfed recently, but a couple of years ago it was still very much a lottery and did not pay terribly well unless your exploration involved popping into wormholes. You can earn some isk by sticking to hisec but the sites you generally find, and their rewards, are not terribly lucrative. They're great practice for learner explorers but not really where the exploration isk comes from.

Wrong, finding exploration sites requires constant work. Agent missions are easily accessed and readily available and can almost be done while afk. Strike #1.

You must be deaf, dumb and blind if you and many others bypass Radar sites. Decryptors are worth big isk that is made very quickly and easily. Stop acting like you're speaking for the Eve Community when we both know you're not.

Wrong again. There has been a lot of players posting about scanning in specific areas and asking if exploration was broken or if they were just having a dry spell, etc. Strike 2.

You couldn't be more wrong if you tried. There are threads being posted every other day asking how to fit for a specific combat site or specific region, etc. Learn to read and while you're at it, learn how to quote correctly. I never said exploration wasn't an Adventure. If exploration for you is a roll of the dice while crossing your fingers and getting a lot of disappointment, then you obviously fail at it and really should be doing something else. Strike 3.

Heh, guess I could spell it out for you but since you're just too pig headed to understand, I cba to waste anymore time with you. That's 3 strikes so you're outa here.

You guys are ******ed for arguing about this job analogy. Not all jobs are the same so you can pretty much twist it to fit or not as you choose. Job vs. gamble? Let's just say you're both right: some people play online poker for a living.

IMHO, if you regularly take the time to do the radars, mags, ladars, etc. that you find, your income is more regular and, like DMC, you end up identifying more with the job mentality. If you pass those up and do combat sites exclusively, more of your income will come from that occasional big score - you end up with Salazar's gambling mindset. Your perception will reflect the experience you make for yourself.

I used to like you DMC but that use of "strikes" and the arrogant tone with which you express yourself makes you sound like a pretentious moron. Seriously you need to take a chill pill, realize you're not Gods gift to exploration and that despite all your "helpful" posting, its still just a game and there's no need to be so butthurt.

I'd address everything you said but I think its quite clear we don't agree. I like what the guy above me said, but I still hold that most radars, especially in high sec aren't worth the time. Your time is better spent finding sites with real drops.

I just finished a Gurista Fortress escalation that dropped a Rattlesnake BPC, Pithum A-type Shield Boost Amplifier, and a Pithum A-type X-large Shield Booster. The second last DG rat dropped a Crystal Epsilon, too.

Just wanted to throw that out there into the broken exploration thread.

Everyone who isn't me that gets loot is just lying!
I'm not getting expensive loot drops thus exploration is broken!

Clearly we need a new branch of logic to reason with these claims... my vote is to name it "Reudctio ad stupidus"

Good morning,

first of all, I know how explortation works. I know about the 'luck' part and my question issn't about drops or whatever.

Its just that I would like someone to confirm, that they got any scannable combat - related site (like DED3 or 4 site, Vigil, Watch) in High Sec in early european morning time? Lets say about 04:00 to 06:00 EVE time? I hjust have to ask, as for some days, I get nothing exp. for Gravis, Magnos and WHs in the mornings, while after DT or after work (lets say 15:00 EVE time) sites are there as normal. Trust me, I wouldn't ask if it wouldn't behave so strenge for me. Lets say you guys scan in the evenings and like in - hm - every 5-6th system you get something. And then since 3 days its like 45 systems in a row (not in circles) its nothing. You come back from work and all is fine again. The next morning you got the same 'bad luck' again.

Several months ago, the spawning of sites was broken. I just wonder, if I am totally unlucky for more that 3 days now. Well, probably its just me ;p

No idea about mornings, but I usually play around 15:00 to 20:00 EVE time, and yesterday I was in Devoid (see see map

The high-sec island on the left had zero (0) combat sites bigger than a Hideout: no Lookouts, no Watches, no Vigils, no 3/10. After 2 circuits, I flew down to mainland high-sec, and scanned every system one by one and managed to net 3 or 4 Sansha's Command Relay Outposts, including having seen them respawn in previously empty systems when I doubled back and redid the circuit in reverse.

So as far as I've seen, the respawning works, it might just be less people respawning the site for you and they're pooling up somewhere?

Hello,

thank you very much. So its just bad luck or probably there are just a few new combatants who exactly play in that time-zone (and who sleep when I am back from work, probably). No harm meant!

Thanks,

Jon

Pretty much yeah.

The smaller your region is, the easier it'll be to find a site and farm it continuously.

The greater the amount of eligible systems, and harder it is to access them (low-sec, gatecamps etc), the more likely sites are going to pool up in some back end system.
