To make a long story short - I just returned to the game after doing a trial account back in 2008. My biggest problem with the game being that I couldn't walk around or really see my character, and was basically a ship, turned me off. Lo and behold, all that has changed.

I'm just now starting to get back into the game, and loving it. Keep in mind I'm totally new to basically anything once my ship's outside a station - my trial period consisted of a friend of mine throwing ISK at me and hooking me up with a single ship.

I'm only now starting to learn about how ship combat really works, and the actual strategy behind it - lots of number crunching with the velocities - and it's very cool.

I was basically wondering how best to spend my time - I'm very interested in the exploration missions, finding the anamolies and wormholes, but I've yet to unlock the advanced skills to hack and harvest gas. Also, I'm totally unable to take anything I usually encounter on the other side of the wormhole. I'm using a Merlin right now - not sure if that's even the best choice for this type of stuff.

One last thing.. Is there a place in game I can chat about being recruited into a corporation? Or am I stuck fishing through the forums?

First of all, I assume you are probing on your own. If so, you should probably be using a frigate with a bonus to probing - the Caldari one is the Heron, since it seems you've got Caldari frigate trained already.

Next - wormholes, even the lowest class ones, are much, much to difficult for a sole frigate, especially with a newer character behind it. I reccomend attempting to find a cruiser (again in the Caldari line, Caracal is decent for DPS while the Blackbird makes an excellent support platform) and then locating a corp that runs in wormholes to fly alongside. With a few people as backup, you'll have no problem crushing the lower-level wormholes and eventually moving on to higher-level stuff; if you want to take the hacking route rather than a direct-combat one, a frigate with scan probes and hacking/analyzing/salvaging mods is often a welcome addition to a wormhole crew (though the exploration-path skills in EVE are somewhat limited at the moment, and you will eventually find yourself expanding into combat or industry).

Finally, there is the in-game channel "Recruitment" where you can post what you are searching for and others will post want-ads for recruits, although there's no prommises that everyone posting in there is competent or honest.

Hey there - just wanted to say thank you for the info - you have no idea how much all that helped. I now have a gameplan and for that I'm super grateful! I know this game is pretty harsh and unforgiving - decided to show my hand on the forums before I went around in-game yelling in local about how I didn't know what I was doing. :P

Again - thanks!
