Is there an API out that that could possibly allow this. Basically what I'm looking for is lets say Cell A1 has the item name "Iron Charge L", cell A2 has a formula that goes to a website and gets the ItemID for item in Cell A1 and then A3 goes to evemarket with ItemID in Cell A2 or wherever to get the sell/median value from the API. I'm looking for a way to dynamically get this instead of having to hardcode all of it.

dose not really have to be google docs I just need to know if that's a way you can get and itemID number from a website with just the item name.

http://wiki.eve-id.net/APIv2_Eve_CharacterID_XML

Does just about everything on the Names table.
Stations, Systems, Items, Corps, Characters, etc.

I see characterID and characterName conversions but nothing about items, am I missing something?

You really should be using the static database dump if possible.

Just because I like people using proper definitions:

Ion Charge L is the type name of an unnamed item. CCP Prism Xs Rifter would be the item name of an item I own of the type Rifter. This is why I hate how the API currently resolves xIDs and xNames, it promotes confusion like this by trying to resolve everything in a single call (and is horrendously inefficient) when it should rather be promoting good coding standards.

As has been mentioned: what you want is the SDE and more specifically the dbo.invTypes table there which contains all types in the game. It's tiny so your app should be able to cache it all up into memory on startup and you'll never have to cross the wire for that specific use case. You don't actually wanna talk to our API unless you absolutely need to. Just think of it as your local page file.. you'd rather have L1 - L3 cache hits than have to start paging. Wink

I know it would also be nice if there was a better way to determine what type of an ID an ID is. I know the wallet Journal API returns both characterIDs and corporationIDs in the same field. I know some of these can be determined via refTypeID.

Actually, each kind of a typeID falls into a specific range, i.e. station IDs are between A and B, then character IDs are between B and C, ship IDs between C and D, and so on. I don't remember the exact bounds, but look up CCP's presentation from this year's fanfest - they are given there. You can find it on youtube on the CCPGAMES channel.
