I sure hope so, but I'm a skeptical son of a ***** when it comes to games companies, if they really cared so much then they could just break off from the bigger companies and make their own games instead like others have done.

I know I'm just risking stirring up more emotions by replying to this, but honestly I mean you no offense. I don't want to be the indirect cause of anybodies frustration unless I know them personally.. then it becomes a hobby. Wink

At any rate: I know you, and many others, are skeptical. I do like to approach things on a more human level rather then a cold and sterile professional level and I recognize that might not be what everyone is used to or even desires. This is of course just a personal preference based on an opinion but it is how I want to be treated so reason dictates I assume the same of others. What I meant with my comment is essentially affirming what you just said: "We're damned if we do and damned if we don't" because the atmosphere seems to foster this skepticism.

I don't really know how to change that but recognize it's probably about as simple as quantum physics (hence the Schrödingers reference). Showing my face here might be a start but I'm pretty sure that people would pick up on if I stopped being myself and was just playing popular politics to keep you happy. I honestly felt that some humour would be in order here. I'm known to make mistakes so: Mea Culpa.

But of course if my personal character causes the majority of the community to take offense then I'm obviously just making matters worse, which I have no intention of doing. I consider CCP my extended family and I'm not the only one with such a sentiment (which is why we don't break off so easily). But before I make decisions on whether I should stop or not I'll give it a few more posts. Here's hoping I still have a job after the month is up! Laughing

Hope that clears the air somewhat. Wink

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're doing a great work with the API Cool (and I'm sure that the quality of work you're doing in other areas is equally good). I think your job is safe enough.

Besides, people in CCP that are deciding the game's future and making plans should at all costs play the game. Others are encouraged to do so because it's a great game and can give you insight about how things should be implemented.

Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to hire EVE's personal sociologist or even "Soc Devs". We have the economic team, "Biz Devs", but the key factor that makes this game great - player behavior - is not getting professional attention. Just a random though, nothing more.Smile

Apparently your tin foil hat is too tight.

Either:

- cut down on the fatty foods
- exercise (waddling over to the potty and back isn't really exercise)
- send me ISK in game and I'll contract the next size up for you (in game)

As far as the little I know about the company, you're not really in a position to benefit from conspiracy, so as an individual, you're above most suspicion. However, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if some higher ups or marketing drones planned the Sansha invasions to kill players in an attempt to drive PLEXes and got a cut of the sales. (And there's how I'm fairly certain the RMTing CSM alliances are bribing CCP Greyscale to develop 0.0 in a way that's good for their operations... greyscale is a traitor to the game.)

Never stop playing the game and interacting with the community, vets still remember how quality declined after the old devs stopped playing EVE. You still suffer from this today. So what if a dev may makes an inapropriate comment on the forums...who cares. We will flame him for it ;)

I do give you credit Prism and I know it takes some balls to face the crowd of angry people looking to stick someones head on a pike, but it's only because we all care about what's happening with this game. Hell, I care and I have to admit I'm not even that big of a fan of MMORPGs like this, however, to let one of the only sandbox games out there die and to throw it all away for an imaginary player base like I have seen before is going to do absolutely no favours for CCP. The players have no stake in this they just care about the game and want to play it, which is why incidentally they can sometimes be the best people to talk to ( that said I do believe that people like CSM don't count because they just take the game too damn seriously and want every advantage ) I was there when SOE ditched an entire game that was growing in popularity for an imaginary player base that didn't exist and completely abandoned them. Trust me when I say you don't want that, because everyone involved with that game treated anything SOE touched like it was diseased and it cost them a lot of money and it still does.

If you guys actually just started owning up and admitting you ****ed up the expansion that would be a fresh start, I loved SOME of the new features in it like the turret graphics and the sovereignty map ( I spend more time looking at that now than playing the actual game ) but, speaking as someone who wants to go into this professionally one day. A lot of it looks like it had been done for a couple of hours and then they had given up, or in some cases were just outright lazy like with putting the stupid door in order to cover up the unfinished content.

Just listen to the players, be honest and you'll do fine, if your bosses have a problem with that then send the angry mob their way.

CCP Prism, here is a chance for you to prove that you are indeed paying attention to the players. Please answer honestly:

1) Name three major features of the Incarna expansion that the player base as a whole considers bad or useless.
2) Name one major feature of the Incarna expansion that the player base as a whole considers good or succesful.

By "the player base" I mean the majority of opinions. Obviously there will be trolls who will disagree with anything you say just for the sake of it. Try to answer in a way that enrages the least people.

I know you don't have to prove anything, I know you don't have to respond to or even read my post. But even showing a basic understanding of the problems from CCP's side would go a LONG way towards improving communication.

Humour is not culturally universal. A company should not expect that all customers share their 'giggles'. Additionally, it's a pretty unprofessional company that relies on masking condescension with humour...one that perhaps doesn't deserve our fawning adoration.

It is impossible to please everyone, some people will always get upset regardless of what someone says or does. I don't think anyone was insulted by the CCP replies in this thread, but it is quite obvious that some people here want to feel insulted.

Well if you look at it from the average CCP employee's point of view I can see why many would feel the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sums it up. Personally I think CCP screwed up badly, very badly, with Incarna and related events. I felt they lost touch with Eve. But, I think they understand that. Doesn't mean they 100% agree, but they understand. The forums seem to have many more responses from CCP employees. This in itself does not fix anything, but it may help?

Personally I welcome more CCP employees on the forums. At least you know some of them are reading what concerns us. They will never make everyone happy, but hopefully they will keep listening and posting, while trying to find the few useful nuggets among mountains of rants, suggestions, ideas, and pipe dreams.
