I don't understand all the hate in the forums. I like the AUR system. I don't have to open my real wallet to get $70 dollar monocles. They're obviously a luxury that isn't meant for everyone to want to spend their money on. I don't see them as any different than the currency sinks that exist in other MMOs. Look at World of Warcraft for example. They have mounts in that game that cost thousands and thousands of gold (which is a lot in WoW terms). This equates to weeks of farming up currency to blow on some dragon mount that looks cooler than your other 20 dragon mounts. Just because you "can" buy plex with real currency doesn't mean you have to or should.
Eve is not WoW. It survived just because of it. Many other WoW clones appeared and vanished, but Eve is still here.
When we got that clear, here's the thing:
- No one really cares about $70 monocles. It's a vanity item... if you like it, you'll find a way to buy it.
- We have monocles in game that cost hundreds of millions of ISK (which is a lot in Eve terms... for 90% of players). This equates to weeks of farming up currency to blow on some monocle that doesn't look cool at all. Your point?

Luxury items like this exist to remove currency from the game and give players who have more money than they know what to do with to spend on. Fancily enough, you don't even have to convert AUR to buy them. Everything on the AUR store is able to be sold on the market. This is a far better way to introduce luxury items than charging real currency as the only method of payment or releasing them via collectable card game. Do you know what a spectral tiger mount is? It's 50 bucks on ebay, thats what. Meanwhile in Eve Online, players can earn 60mil+ per hour doing missions and afford their luxury items in a fraction of the time it takes anyone playing wow to earn their 30,000 gold dragon mount thing.
Remove currency from the game? How? To make things clear - it would remove currency from the game if you could buy the item for ISK directly from CCP, but you can't. You are just transferring ISK to another player.
I agree that the choice of having NeX items on market is a better way than just having them sold for cash. It could make some more $$$ to CCP and doesn't hurt anyone.
60mil per hour is an overestimation, even if you have a dual-boxing salvaging alt and count in LPs.

There is no gold ammo, there is no impact on game play. There is only a game that doesn't charge you 15 bucks a month to your credit card so long as you've got the skills and time to earn a PLEX. I like the game just the way it is, sorry if you don't feel the same way.
I like it the way it is too. That was the whole point of "the hate on the forums" ... to cut the gold ammo idea before its inception.
