Feeling assured that CCP and the CSM is genuine with their promise that gold ammo won't be sold by aurum (atleast exclusively), I can't help feeling alarmed at this statement from the latest DUST 514 official devblog at http://www.dust514.com/en/news/article/1980/beginnings:
Quote:
Players are able to purchase different gear to equip before deploying into battle, using InterStellar Kredits (ISK), the in-game earned currency of the EVE universe, or through real money currency, called Aurum (AUR). This provides players with flexibility and adaptability in how they approach a combat scenario. Certain items are only available through ISK transactions, while others are only available through AUR.

Combined with the fact that dust and eve are the same universe and that events in dust directly impacts eve in general, isn't this a disguised/indirect form of money trading going on in eve as well?

I imagine a nullsec where planetary conquests is a part of the sov warfare, and to be really good at those planetary conquests you need to hire mercenaries who use Aurum to boost their proficiency.

You might have a point IF the AUR-only items give an advantage over the rest.

But we don't know near enough to worry about it right now...

No one has mentioned this aspect before. Thanks for bringing us this original insight, OP. Now we have an opportunity to have an informed and thoughtful discussion with these new facts that you have put before us.

It seems unlikely to me that CCP would introduce aurom-only items if these do not give an advantage over non-aurum items as then people wouldnt really have an incentive to to buy said aurum-equipment.

What about the new Dust player who doesn't have any friend in Eve to give him isks? He's have to pay real money for a starter set, at least.

And the Aur-only item could also be just cosmetics, like a black tank intead of a standard grey tank.

This point has been raised several times allready but yes in general it will be possible to buy elements with aur that would be better then other items. We know that it will not be cosmetics only though.

In case of dust though I don't really worry to much about it, just like world of tanks this game will be build around that model to give account for the aurum from day one.

World of tanks has pretty good tanks for gold, but the best tanks are still earned through effort (although the effort is harder when you don't buy gold and progress "normally"). I would hope that CCP would be at least as smart as the WoT guys and make it that way.

On another note, since CCP doesn't even know yet how it will implement the connection with eve, or how to test it to much speculation now is futile.

Think the usage of Aurum to purchase items in Dust is pretty much equivalent to flipping over a PLEX for ISK. So far, it isn't stated that there will be AUR exclusive items. Since the game doesn't feature a monthly fee, this will probably be the direct stream of income for Dust. As long as the markets aren't splintered, I won't mind.

id imagine that balanced AUR-items would give advantage between a fraction of a % up to maybe 3% on one attribute for whatever the item is.

That and possible customizability like items that are functionally the same but look a lot cooler in some way :P

Someone needs to reed my quote again:
Certain items are only available through ISK transactions, while others are only available through AUR.

AUR only in the sense they can only be bought with AUR, probably not. I believe all items will be tradable on the market.

AUR only in the sense that they can only be *created* by spending AUR, then yes. CCP promised to not do this in EVE, but that has always been the revenue model for DUST. If CCP is true to their word and the CSM will be vigilant, there will not be items that give you a direct advantage as an EVE player but they will exist (and be rather important) in DUST. They will not only give an advantage: they will be nearly essential.

Edit. yes. I did read the OP. But that quote may be an oversimplification as in a very short and barely informative post aimed to a general audience it would be too complex to explain the difference between economy neutral player to player market transactions and material faucets/currency sinks from NPCs. Also it may even be that CCP has not yet decided exactly what the'll do. I still believe they should and will let all modules be tradable on the market, regardless of what their faucet is.

Ah, well, seeing as how the game doesn't have a monthly fee, I don't see what the problem is. It's a MMO that uses microtransactions. Not so different from a lot of other games out there. When it comes to equipment superiority, I'm sure the intention is to keep things balanced.

The point of the OP is simple. It doesn't really matter whether no "pay to win" items will ever come to the EVE NeX because they will be in DUST and if sov is tied to DUSTers actions "hiring a DUSTer" with AUR will be a "pay to win" for EVE players.

Nuke them from orbit - it's the only way. No I'm serious - I don't think the guys on the ground will be earning ISK on the same scale as we can here in EVE. What is the advantage of the SuperHappy Zippity-Zap gun when for a couple million ISK you can just blow up the whole planet operation from orbit? At least that's what was implied in some of the trailers...
