So I got tired of flying in highsec, and decided to look for a 0.0 corp to join. The 5 first recruiters was Goons trying to talk me into paying the security deposit, which I know they would just steal from me, without letting me join the corp. After talking to a lot of recruiters from different corps, I ended up with a guy from a corp in the Test Alliance Please Ignore. He seemed like a legit guy, who even had the title of "Recruiter". After agreeing to apply to his corp and giving him my full API to check if I was a scammer, he said he could JF all my stuff to 0.0 from highsec, as mods and ships were quite overpriced down there. Now that sounds like an easy scam to me, get all my stuff in a contract and then steal it.. So Im wondering can I actually trust this recruiter or anyone like him, who's offering me a pass into their big alliance and corp and a free transport of all my goods? The corp he was recruiting for is "The First one is Always Free". I tried to search for his name and corp, but I couldnt find any scam stories on the forums, so I figured I'd have to as myself.. - Larse |

i've read reports of test doing the same as goons, i wouldn't trust them with my stuff or anyone i don't know for that matter. best to fly down and buy ships there, that way you'll lose little if it indeed is a scam. be wary if they ask you to jump your carrier down too.

Edited by: Taedrin on 25/07/2011 23:55:09 SOunds like a scam to me. If you think he might be legit, then fly out there yourself in a useful, yet disposable ship. Perhaps buy a ship for ratting and a ship for PvP and get involved. Read the bulletins, learn more about the alliance and participate in a few fleets. Once you establish yourself as a member, you greatly reduce the chances of getting scammed.
The key word in that last sentence is "greatly reduce", mind you - not "eliminate" |

Do you have a reddit account? Do you post on somethingawful?
If you answered no to both questions, you should stay away from TEST and Goons. Unless you're going to be shooting them of course. If you contract anything to any of their members, you're a moron. |

Can always offer to set up a courier contract with proper collateral - if he refuses he's probably not legit, worst case he delivers it and then doesn't let you in, and you've got to firesale it I suppose. |

This is guaranteed to be a scam unless this 'recruiter' is willing to accept a contract with collateral matching the value of the goods. Even then, they could just gank you once you get there.
TEST are a bunch of idiots anyway and you really don't want to waste your time working with them. |

This sounds like a huge red flag to me. Why would he advertise the fact that their market is crap? Look for an alliance which will instead tell you "sell your stuff in Jita, fly here in a shuttle, and buy new ships for cheaper (and/or subsidized by the alliance/corp)". |

Well, you're all missing the trick with the courier scam thing.
You can setup the contract, and put a proper collateral on it; it doesn't help you as the contract will get done, taking the collateral mechanic out of the picture.
You've then got all your stuff in a station you CAN NOT DOCK AT unless you're part of the corp. See the problem? What would you pay to get your 3 Rapiers and 2 Machs back out?

The fella who first suggested the courier contract mentioned this. I would suggest the OP not take advice from people who don't/can't read. |

He also seemed to suggest it was a good idea. It's not. Learn to rationalise. |

It depends. Often ask the CEO if it's legit. I've offered this service to new people of my corps - some people are hesitant and get all uppity when I tell them we wont do courier contracts with collatoral (like I'm going to tie up corp wallet to the tune of 5b because someone needs all their stuff moving). The way i take it is they can either move it themselves or I will and then shrug. So no, it's not always a scam and if you don't have a carrier it's normal for corps to offer. But sometimes it is. |

Go fork out your tenbux to SA.com and lurk for a few months like the rest of the goon J4Gs do nowadays. It's pretty trivial to get into GS/TEST, but it's not something you can do without access to their out-of-game communities.
Also, TEST is ****. |

Agreeing with the anti-trust posters. +1 As far as the corp name, I'm sure I'm heard that phrase somewhere. Good job on doing your h/w. |
