Plex for buddy invites will mostly be used by current players to make some 51 day alt accounts. Low SP jobs like simple hauling, scouting, cyno and suiciding work just fine with throwaway characters. Thing is ofcourse that the majority of those 51 day accounts will never be more than just that, because people who want to pay for alts already do so and don't really need that extra incentive.

Any genuine player who wants to make an actual extra account and is willing to pay for it after those 51 days won't see any difference between the "plex for buddy" and "game time for buddy" options, to him they're the exact same. ONLY the people interested in making several 51 day throwaway alt accounts for whatever reason WANT that plex option because it costs them nothing per account and they can just keep repeating it once those 51 days are over.

CCP knows this ofcourse, they know that the VAST majority aren't really active/full accounts. They just look that way in the books and to investors, and to cover up the subs count issue with Incarna. If you look at eve-offline the graph doesn't look so bad now, does it. I mean there's a decline but not THAT much. I don't know about you but I made MORE than 10 buddy accounts for alts since that scheme went live and I'm quite sure many people made at least 1. And once you made one it's so easy to make a few more.

So, it's nothing more than CCP trying to look better (or less fail) than they actually are.

Of the many, many things you can criticize CCP for you sure picked a stupid one.

The fact that it benefits us doesn't change what it is.

The OP is completely correct with everything he said. It should also be noted that they cancelled the program as soon as the 2nd quarter ended. Thus leaving us with the inescapable conclusion that they had lost a ton of subscribers and wanted to artificially boost their "active subscription" numbers through misleading statistics as to appear better before their investors. When the quarterly report comes out, if we don't see a MASSIVE boost in "active accounts" then something is terribly terribly wrong.

That being said, reimplementing the program only serves as a continuous false cover to let CCP deceive themselves into thinking they have more subscribers than they actually do. More realistically it's probably for all of us, so we believe the game is growing still (as I still want to believe).

I think I need to buy eggs. We're getting low.
