[English is not my native language so I'll probably make a valiant attempt to murder the English language during this post]

[This post can be resumed to a unique sentence, a request I want to make to CCP, if you do not want to ready this sad, sad story, just jump to the end, and read the bold sentence at the bottom and save 5 minutes of your live, that you will never recover]

--

Everything started 3 years ago. I had lots of free time, no kids, wife had diferent working hours, I was looking for something to fill my free time. Price wasn't an issue. I need something for my age range, something mature. As a sci-fy lover I wanted something in that area. It should be complex, diferent.

One day I found an advertisement. I follow the link. The first contact with the game was good, videos were excelent, pictures were nice, reviews good, is this it?

I created an account, login and played the 15 days trial. I love it, I became in love.

Unique server, the universe in EVE is freaking huge, cience fiction space game like I wanted, beautiful graphics, players pilot customisable ships, the game world was controlled by players, a sandbox like no other I've seen and the character advances even when you arenít logged on.

I was in love. For a year CCP and me had a pactionned affair. For a year I explored every thing high sec had to offer to a lone wolf like me. CCP provided and it was good.

During that time an amazing expansion comes out, T3, wormholes, OMG, I love it, CCP always cooked my favorate meals, thank you baby.

And one day I login and I wanted more. And CCP help me, so I when for something I was avoiding for some time, I joined a 0.0 corp.

PVP, Sovereignty warfare, ratting, pirates, gate camps, ganks, awoxing, fleets, TS2, forums, meta gamming, poses, capitals. I thought that I've seen everything in high sec, itís a entire new game out there!

CCP, you never ceases to surprise me, always keeping this relation alive and spicy.

For another year, I was happy, new stuff to do every day, my progress was incredible, I became space rich, I blow up ships every day, I created a new account for alts, I became a capital pilot, I fight on 1000 pilot fleet battles, I was part of something huge and good.

But one day, CCP stop making my favorite meals. The love was not there anymore. CCP start ignoring my calls. It started to arrive late to our appointments.

Expansions did not bring nothing new, no new ships to play, no new territories to explore and conquer, no new missions to do. NoÖ why? I love you so much what did I do to you to deserve this? There is another one, isnít it? Are you in love with someone else?

I gave you everything! I compromise 100% in this relation, why are you doing this to me? Why?

Many ships are broken and we can't play with them, poses are a mess, ratting was nerfed, supercap blobs ruin the game, graphics are not good anymore, bots, RTM, Galente is dead, the interface is outdated, LAG, LAG, LAG ...

What happen to you CCP, what I did wrong? should I pack and leave this relation for good?

CCP give a sign. Tell me you can fix what is broken, tell me you can revamp old contents, tell me you can give me new graphics that don't burn my card, a new interface, tell me you can give me new shiny stuff to play.

CCP talk to me, show me a EVE development timeline for 2011/2012, compromise, give me some hope, some reason to stay, I can wait for you if you want me to.

Do you still love me CCP?

many share your sentiment. some of those folks have already left. I think they'd come back if CCP would do exactly what you're asking them to do. well said.

My PLEXes run until january, so that's how long they'll have to convince me sticking around. Already gave them a year, so can't say I'm not of the patient kind.

I fully agree....

I am also feeling the 'meh' funk when I think about logging on. I really need some kind of push to get back into the game, or I may leave and come back in the winter, see whats going on then.

All it would really take is a general timeline of what is being planned.

Just something like -

Sep - other 3 CQ
Dec - Full station enviroment, multiplayer.
Spring - Ship fixes, bug fixes
2012 - POS revamp!!!!!!!

Anything to let us know that you [CCP] actually listened to your players wants/needs for the game and are trying to address those things.

Yes, they're in love with an imaginary new playerbase they think they can attract.

They don't care about you anymore - all you people who put time into the game to give it the cool cachet it has.

They're looking for people who want instant gratification and are willing to pay for it.

So that they can grow as a company and make other, new games.

Well, it may work, but my fear is that without people like you, the game won't have any cool cachet, plus, as it stands, the game is too complex and fiddly for the instant gratification crowd. So it will be an increasing downward spiral - with the sandbox giving way to themepark, and the gameplay becoming more and more of an arcadey PvP arena game.

With only the faint echo of the magnificent lore it had, and the virtual world it once was, echoing like static in space ...

LoL @ the op.

This story is so typical of alot of real life love affairs. You fall in love and give them the world, be the best partner you can be and try to provide everything they desire, trying to keep the spark and maintaining a fun and exiting relationship until eventually it becomes all to demanding.

No matter what you do or how hard you try its just not enough, the world in which you share is no longer enough and the relationship turns sour and eventually the love starts to die.

I really feel for CCP they tried hard.. they gave you their world and tried to live up to your every expectation but for some, its just not enough.

Sometimes people really need to face up to the fact that you just cannot have everything!

Few salient points (I think) worth remembering:

1. CCP is a business. I know we know that, but try to keep it in mind. Just be grateful they aren't a publicly traded company or it would not have lasted anywhere near as long as it has.

2. CCP made it very clear - surprisingly so - on the whole '18 months' issue. They never lied or deceived their customers. They told us straight up what the score was.

3. CCP are ambitious. I respect that tbh. They could have just turned EvE in to mainstream crap but instead they opted to expand and create new games for new audiences. That's not a bad thing at all.

4. CCP are nerds. Never a bad thing when it comes to game design and approach. Even though they are aspie hags who can't communicate, I prefer that to being bull ****ted by professional 'community representatives' and spun PR cackola while being sold out to EA on the sly.

5. Iceland. Its not Maryland. Its not Beijing. Thats good. For all their faults CCP is unique and very important to a small struggling economy. I like this. I like the fact they have a cultural and business philosophy that is NOT EA.

With all due respect CCP Vertias, I'd rather have the what lag you fixed back in place of the direction you guys seem to be headed currently.

With that I will never deny that you guys have a kick ass game but atm, there seems to be a disconnect between CCP and player base. Fix it! You created EVE you can fix anything!!Crying or Very sad

Lord, give the guy a break. It's not like it's CCP Veritas' job to decide the strategic direction of the game. You do know his role at CCP, yes?

Considering that he responded to a forum post in regards to a love affair between player and the game CCP created. I'd say he works in the department of Romance or Psychology?

To answer your question - Senior Programmer? Yes I looked it up and no I didn't know until you asked. I meant no disrespect either way regardless of his position with CCP.

@OP

I love this game and i am still in love with it. I know some dodgy coding was used to implement things, and i think it's been that which CCP has been working on very hard for the past 12-24 months to make right.

Now it's almost done they can get back to implementing new features/space/things!

I agree, there have been vast improvements. However, the client-side load has become much higher lately. The laptop I used to use to run everything perfectly now goes into slide-show mode near my POS, and I've had to turn off the CQ because it's totally unusable on this machine. It looks fine on my desktop, as far as it goes.

While "lag" presumably refers to server-side lag, the effect of client-side delays is equally heinous: fighting sleepers at 5 fps and trying to set up PI when the focus doesn't follow the mouse well is very painful.

P.S. I just renewed for another 6 months... hoping for the best.

Since I arrived on 0.0, more or less 1,5 years ago there was LAG, lots of it.

I really hate LAG, for 2 reasons, one because I technically understand what LAG is, since itís my job in RL to profile software all day looking for bottlenecks and memory leaks and in this case I cannot do nothing to tackle it and I feel totally impotent when I face it in this game, second because LAG creates a random unfair advantage to some people that are lucky and get their commands processed by the server or are rich and have a mega super fast desktop in home that allows them to have much less client lag than me and I die to then in a ball of fire.

This makes me furious, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it, I hate LAG with all my heart. And that is why I was so bitter and went all ÖLAG, LAG, LAGÖ on CCP in my post.

One important note, I'll say it loud, LAG has decreased over the last 6 months, a lot. I take my hat to you and your team, because things got better, specially things that run on server side, but I still see huge LAG problems with the client. I have a top end desktop, I normally run 2 clients, one on each monitor and every day I face these problems:
  • If I forget to close brackets and I warpin to a enemy fleet, on arrival my cpu goes 100% and the client stops

  • If I survive, and my client regains some sort of control and let me do something, if I try to access the menus of the overview to remove brackets or change the filter the client doesnít respond, it takes forever to get the menus open, so you can get brackets off or change the filter in a tab

  • Even if you have brackets off, when a fleet warps in or you warp on top of a fleet the client lags and you see the CPU at 100% for a couple of seconds, sometimes is the time necessary for you to get primary and die

  • Sometimes, when you jump a gate and there is a camp gate or some sort of ďmovementĒ in the other side, the client goes 100% and when it gives you control back, you are dead!

So thanks for all the work so far, GOD speed and please never stop posting those dev blogs with all the details on what you all did to tackle each problem. I love then and the more details you put in there the better they are, keep then coming, never stop posting.
