Do you think the shield or armor thorax would be superior for solo pvp ?

Go with the shield variant. While the non-trimarked 800mm fit certainly isnt all that slow, the shield fit has a not so obvious advantage over it besides increased speed which is turret damage projection.

With the electrons on your armor fit, you start dealing meaningful turret damage at around 5km. Compare the following fit:

[Thorax, shield]
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Tracking Enhancer II
Damage Control II

Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive
Large Shield Extender II
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I

Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M
Heavy Ion Blaster II, Caldari Navy Antimatter Charge M

Medium Anti-EM Screen Reinforcer I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I

Warrior II x5
Hornet EC-300 x5

You start dealing meaningful turret damage at 10km, so your damage loss on approach is lowered, i.e. your damage@range figure improves. Given that the EHP difference is not that huge to begin with and your approach time is going down a bit as well, there is no good reason not to go that route.

If you absolutely want to go with a speed mod, I'd use a nanofiber instead of the overdrive. It does come with a slight penalty to your total EHP, but you gain agility.

Edit: It can be worth considering to switch drones to EC-600s, those are extremely powerful in solo engagements if you use the scoop-redeploy trick.

Add to the cons for shield tanked, huge sig radius.

Sig radius isn't such a big deal for a shield thorax. Battlecruisers are going to completely destroy it regardless of whether it has shield rigs or not, so you should be more worried about speed, ehp, dps and range.

Honestly for a solo fit, this is pretty good for a Thorax. In real fights the Ions will deal more dmg than the Neutrons (tracking)...sick you ECM drones on them and pray they get jams...

But the Thorax is not the best of solo ships. In the Galente cruiser class you are probably better off with a Vexor, fit with a 1600mm plate scram web and neuts or small guns.
