We are currently taking the database cluster offline to upgrade from hamsters to ferrets with frickin laser beams on their heads. We anticipate the ferrets will be fully operational by 23:00.

I think the Ferrets they bought are actually Skunks, at least, there does seem to be a odd smell coming from the game.....

I, personally, feel like a mushroom ... being kept in the dark and being fed manure ...

What about THESE sentiments ? ...

"... Apart from the obvious issue with us communicating about as well as a bag of rocks, itís really important that we be able to explain exactly whatís happening and why. ...

... But yeah, I guess my ex girlfriends were right, itís all about communication."

EVE Online Lead Designer Kristoffer "CCP Soundwave" Touborg as interviewed By Garrett Fuller on July 15, 2011

FULL TEXT HERE

Are we just going to continue getting lip service on these issues and no substance or information?

PLEASE ... What is HAPPENING to our game? PLEASE !

We really don't WANNA hear about "ferets with frickin laser beams on their heads" ... we wanna know what is REALLY happening and what the prognosis is!

I honestly feel EVE would be much better off without some of the more vocal and whiny players who actually act like ADHD-addled kindergarten children.

It's a difficult transitional period, lots of major underlying changes are being applied in a short period of time and there are naturally going to be problems. Some of the tantrum-throwers might leave, but the core of hardcore players will stay because, let's face it, there's nothing else out there that's even remotely like EVE.

I wish there was more people like you and I.

It's sad that those children either can't read, or simply don't listen.

Can't always get what we want, right?

I smell a CCP alt.

Anywhoo- Keep thinking the core players aren't willing or already out the door. If you or CCP really believes people won't walk away from EVE then keep pulling the stinking mess you're pulling now.

It's not about just now or CQ or the dumbass barbie doll dress up contest, it's the consistant failures and constant disregard CCP KEEPS SHOWING their player base. That includes the hardcore players.

I can tell you now that I've seen a difference already in the amount of players in certain areas of the EVE universe. While the numbers on the server may be different, the player base is changing. I suspect the only reason why server numbers are stating same or higher is all the free advertisement CCP got from the rioting and such.

What better way to bring in new meat while ushering out the infamous "Bitter vets".

I'm sure time will tell.

But hey... you got your pretty clothes and eyewear so what the hell eh?

Agreed, designing those underlying changes where one's credit card will be required at every decision point can be very difficult.

I completely agree with you there, and tbh, Id be all for changes for the good. At the same time, I would propose that the rate of change is a large part of the problem. Another part of the problem is the "fearless(TM)" way CCP go about it without adequately preparing the community for it. I last programmed in Pascal (stop giggling in the back there) but even from the laymans perspective I now view the magic of programming from, applying lots of major underlying changes in a short period of time is a bad move aye? Theres no systematic way to see what changes you made are causing your problems. So maybe slow and steady wins the race?

But no, CCP fearlessly(TM) introduce an expansion that radically changes lots of **** then the game keeps crashing on them.

It wouldnt even have been so bad if they prepped us for it "guys, were gonna be messing with lots of stuff in the next expansion, bear with us. Were doing it for X, Y and Z reasons."

But no......From CCP Hilmar himself...

"We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember."

Years from now people will actually be remembering the time CCP released an expansion people didnt really want, that was broken in so many ways that they had to call the CSM to iceland to discuss it. That had MANY technical hitches and really, just ****ed folk off.

I dont recall a poll by CCP of what we, THE PAYING PLAYERS wanted. We got what CCP wanted us to have, and they seem to be giving it to us pretty badly in technical terms.

Ah the predictable 'CCP alt' response to any opinion that runs counter to the vocal forum masses. Of course some people will ragequit, hell people ragequit over stealth bombers having their cruises removed. People ragequit over titan doomsdays, the nano nerf, the t20 incident, incursions and now CQ. The doomsayers were there every step of the way with the 'this will kill EVE' prophecy.

But... EVE's still here. The core playerbase has just gotten stronger because those that stayed have adapted and not stomped their feet and threatened to leave at the first sign of change. There are people here who understand the difficulties inherent in large-scale application maintenance and distribution and don't think everything can be fixed in a day by some simple script or patch.

Granted there are many things CCP could have handled better in hindsight, and I'm among the people who vehemently wanted the existing features to be finished and polished before new content is introduced, but c'est la vie. CCP is a money-making company first and foremost, they aren't our friends or peers, and it's about time people realised this. If you don't like the direction the game is going, vote with your wallet and cancel your sub.

We'll still be here when you come back. Incidentally 'you got your pretty clothes' ... LOL. This is a feature I will be boycotting in-game. Not whining and throwing tantrums on the forums, simply not using. Cool

I wish people would quit saying "CCP alt" as I highly doubt that is the case in any paying customer's positive representation of the game, as is. Some customers are indeed well educated enough to realize that there is light at the end of the tunnel, even if it is years away. We make do with what we have. The game is PLAYABLE. It's 50 cents a day. I drink 4 dollars worth of coffee while playing everyday. I would definitely pay 4 dollars a day to play EVE Online if they took the initiative and told whiners to gtfo all together. I think whiners are WORSE than bots, at this point. But, in the very near future, the new EVE Forums will brighten my day, because I will be able to keep my entire forum experience POSITIVE, at last. I can't wait. (Actually, I can wait, because I am patient. CCP definitely spent my 2 cents WISELY, in that regard.)

EVE is CCP's baby, they're not really interested in what we want tbh. They have their 'vision' for what they see EVE as being in the future, the problem is that most of us like what we already have and see some of the changes such as CQ/WiS as a waste of resources when there are so many glaringly obvious faults left over from previously half-implemented content.

In a way I can respect this since it means they won't be swayed by flavour of the month paths other MMOs are taking, they claim to want to be a leader rather than a follower. But the speed and scale of some of these changes is definitely worrying though, and is hurting the stability of the game. I have no doubt the changes (once stable) will attract new players, but will they retain them after the shine has worn off and we're left with pretty much what we already have now?

Ugh, so much uncertainty and confusion in this transitional period. We'll have to watch and see what develops I guess. At least it's sure to be interesting! Very Happy
