Any good eve player should be used to doing out of game research. Read up on MTs, botting and RMT. MTs are what you will be doing if you choose to continue playing mmo's. RMT and bots are something NO gaming company has found a solution to yet.
In my reading the best answer i found was people need to diversify until all this gets sorted out. If you are playing 3 games as a casual player and one comes out with a game-changing release you can't accept it's much easier to just move on- drop it. There are games that are free-to-play for the basic experience and only need MT features for those interested enough - Istaria is an example. There are cheaper monthly sub games then eve and if you don't have 4 accounts here in eve you could afford one in them..lets say perpetuum.
Fallen Earth is a great crafter game just gone F2P with a MT store.
The Camelot age of mmo's with Devs having control of thier game and integrity are over..it's on your shoulders now to figure out what you'll be doing about it. Like any addict going clean it won't be easy but imo diversifing and a less intense interest in the game might be just what you need.

I pay for 2 accounts, play multiple characters and sometimes purchase PLEX with cash (via account management, mind you).

I say, what the eff is the difference?

No problem with it here, especially since I play/have played other games with MT and am able to play without spending stupid amounts of money.

Sure, there will be a myriad of people running to hide under a rock with their ears and eyes shut, but this is the way of the future. It puts the player in control of how much money the company sees (for the most part). A lot of the ranting seems to be happening simply because people have nothing better to talk about.

What an asinine thing to say, Just because some people aren't going to get butthurt about a change that doesn't affect them much,
If you don't like it simply don't use it.

You've missed the entire point of Eve - that it was a single shard, utterly immersive universe where everything in it was crafted by the playerbase. Of course buying plex instead of simply banning isksellers/buyers was an awful mistake - of course not doing anything about botters was an awful mistake - it killed the immersion and made acquiring supercaps and vast wealth a triviality. This Nex store and MT is a further nail in the coffin of Eve due to the greed and shortsightedness of CCP. With Dust514 they are developing a game concept which cannot possibly succeed and will garner very little and shortlived interest from gamers worldwide. Eve will have been left derelict as a result and the entire company's future will hang on World of Darkness.

If CCP weren't completely arrogant and utterly blinkered they would cancel Dust right now and concentrate on making two incredible titles for the future. People will always be interested in sci-fi and also in monsters and the macabre - people soon tire of silly FPSers, the like of which we have all played a hundred times before. I'll tell you this right now, within 12 months Eve will basically be pay-to-win and Dust will be a massive failure when it is released. Then CCP won't have the resources to develop WoD.

They could have 2 epic titles here but they seem hell-bent on having none, and sullying the reputation that they worked so hard over the years to procure.

But, if I may suggest, don't you think that you are simply perceiving it to be affecting the way you've played for the past 5 years?

I mean, I login and do the same things I've done for the past 2 years without a problem, so what is it really affecting?

Nobody is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy clothing for your character and you certainly have the ability to make the ISK you would need to purchase a PLEX, if you should ever desire that sort of thing.

RMT and botting are issues that MMO's face and should work against but to accept them is to accept failure. MT are fine if you craft your game around MT and do it right but tacking them in here and there is pathetic, shortsighted, and greedy.

The best thing people can do is after they invest in new hardware to better run the prison cell is go play other games and shelf EVE if you don't have time left on your accounts. Buy new games, ones you haven't played while you were playing EVE, or try other MMO's you haven't played before. Eve is headed in a direction at the hands of shortsighted small minded greedy fools, no real reason to stick with it if you aren't addicted, have time you already paid for or can find anything else worth your time. Even a MT f2p game is fine if it was designed well with MT at the core of gameplay to spend your time playing.

What kind of stupid decision was it to boost requirements for the game people have been playing for years and offer nothing significant for that increased demand? Incarna delivers nothing for the requirements it raises, CCP made systems that worked before work poorly or not at all so they could force us to enter a room or stare at a door so they can push NEX crap, way to go. If it was about the NPE then it would have and should have been optional to deal with Incarna in the current no content state it is in.

MT are fine for some games, and some people but not all and it doesn't need to be crammed into every game. If the future of MMO's is MT I'll just play the old games I actually own, normal single player and multiplayer games where people put their time into free mods for the community and if that market dries up I'll just read books or go do any number of RL activities that there are now games for.

I'm a subscription person, I like paying for everything I'll ever need because it was all made and made relatively well to make a valuable product not selling this and that to try and make some hodge podge game that seems fun based on the idea that you bought all the stuff. Either a game is worth the cost, retail or sub to own/play or it isn't and I'll pay or not. Shopping isn't fun for me, I buy what I need/want and don't like spending my time looking at crap to see what I need or discover I now need to go buy something else because the game/rules have changed to make me buy more.

The most idiotic post I have read today. And I've read a lot...

We as players (consumers) don't owe any company, anything. We don't need to "adapt" to what a company wants us to adapt to.

If CCP wants our money, they'll adapt to what we, the consumer want, and what we are willing to pay for.

Exactly, wonder why is it so hard for some people at CCP to understand this. Their needs are not our needs.

I just hope all of this crashes on them so they see truth, even if something minuscule bad happens to them, they will be so blindsided they will probably start accussing the playerbase of not understanding their game, like the almost defunct WARHAMMER ONLINE devs used to spout at people practically yelling at them how sucky their game was becoming.

Bah, the blind leading the blind.

I'd have to agree that people are a bit crazy about MT, honestly who gives a crap? If you don't like it, just don't use it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out(or so I thought). As long as CCP never adds any game play related items it doesn't effect anyone and can be easily ignored.

However I do agree that no we do not need to adapt, the company does.. the customer is always right.

"We as players need to adapt...."

From wolfs to sheep. I don't think so.

No one needs being a customer with a company that has poor customer service, thoughtless management, and one bad public relations department. The past few weeks has shown CCP not to be worth any of my entertainment money. All 4 accounts closed here.

Okay sheep , now pick up the slack.

I also adapted. I once again evolved from a Golden Goose to an un-subbed player. Have fun CCP. In case you haven't noticed: there's a bunch of other gaming companies out there who seem quite eager to take my money and possibly deliver a gaming experience I like. Good luck with your $100 monocles and $1000 designer jeans... Wink

I have a penchant for disgusting grease-dripping burgers - I go to MacDonalds. Sadly, they no longer sell such burgers, they now sell only chocolate. But I want a disgusting grease-dripping burger, maybe I'll just head to Burger King instead. "Don't do that" the drone behind the counter stammers, "just stay here and adapt".

Believe it or not I don't mind MT as long as it's vanity, but what I can't stand is paying full price for a game only to find out that I don't have full access to content and I essentially need to keep my account going more in order to play the damn game.

The first couple of weeks in this game is filled with nothing more than you discovering the right skills you need to train and the types of ships you need to effectively make ISK and the tutorial explains bugger all of that.

microtransactions are current trend with all these **** mmo's

problem is that if you get advantage with microtransactions and you keep investing money and time it hooks you up in a loop it's difficult to stop. i.e. to the level it becomes an illness.

surely game companies like transaction methods which hook up players into the game.

i like to believe at some point everyone (game companies and players) realize that microtransactions for advantage in game which is supposed to be just fun is bad.

Yes, I should convince myself that MT in EVE is good, rather than doing what any normal consumer does and stop buying the product of a company that blatantly lies and betrays my trust.

The whole MT thing, and Fearless, caused me to stop and look real hard at where EVE was and where it looks to be going. EVE has real potential, and if I felt that CCP was seriously striving to reach that potential - I could have just shrugged about the MT thing.

But CCP has put the absolute minimum resources into further developing EVE, for years. I gave more than enough time to see when CCP would focus upon the game world, but it hasn't happened. I still have a lot of hope for EVE, but my accounts are cancelled. If/When CCP makes changes that I believe will revitalize EVE, and if/when it appears that CCP will fulfill the commitment that comes with a subscription in the first place, I will reconsider resubbing.

Till then, WOTs gets my money. And when WOT becomes boring, maybe I'll look at Perpetuum again or maybe Infinity will be released or maybe ME3 will be completed. Even without being subbed into EVE, I can read the forums and keep up with the political backdrop - which has been the best part of EVE for the past 2 years anyways.

I adapted times 2 accounts:

You have cancelled your EVE Online subscription.

Your account will be suspended at the end of the current subscription period, expiring on 06 September 2011.

Your characters will be stored safely and be ready for you to enjoy again should you decide to return.

If you feel that this cancellation has been made in error, you can quickly and easily reopen your account by clicking below.

Playing Perpetuum and enjoying playing a game where the Devs actually appear to give a sh!t about their playerbase. Oh, and work on fixing content/mechanics instead of loading the game with "bling/barbie" crap.

In before: "Perpetuum Sucks/ will never be EvE". Perp is enjoyable and, as it is a different game, does not have to try to take the same path EvE went down. Hopefully it does not.
