Cause I use TS3, Mumble and Vent and I try EVE Voice, and honestly I don't get why people hate it so much. Guys, what's up with that?

When I used it before it was very laggy with just a few people on it. Haven't used it in a while, but I like having the control to put eve out my speakers, and vent/ts out via my headset and such.

And now It will not even let me join any channel......

That's what is so terrible about it

If you DC or Log Off you can't tell anyone unlike an out of game comm.

EV is a good thing though for smaller corps who want to start a gang, if you want to talk someone, chat with corpmates and so on. A lot of small Corps don't have T3, Mumble or Vent.

It is used a lot in RVB for Fleet Comms.

some reasons:

(a) unstable in large fleets - large alliances have and need quite intricate comms setups (with some degree of load balancing and DDOS protection), I have experienced EVE voice getting unstable (with people being unable to join/rejoin, speakers breaking up badly, ...) in channels with less than 100 members.

(b) voicecomms have to stay up even if the eve server goes down - you have to tell people whether to stay on hold and try to relog asap or if you call off the operation;
client crashes are very common especially when fighting certain 0.0 alliances (where often ~1/3 of your fleet drops at an inconvenient moment) and people have to keep up with comms so they know what's going on when they have restarted their client.

(c) no usergroups - instead an idiotic tie-in into the squad/wing/fleet system that nobody uses anyways, no overlay or integration with keyboard displays so wanting to see who is talking results in mad scrolling through the channel's user list, no ability to adjust volume, mute, ... other people client-side, switching the channel you are talking on feels clumsy (click the small chat tab, then context menu)

(d) good luck trying to find which of your EVE clients is logged into eve voice when you are in a hurry (and need to change channels)

(e) voicecomms are intelligence gathering tools that log user/IP information for spy-hunting purposes

(f) no built-in ability to record comms

been using EVE Voice for the greater part of the last 2 years and only had problems when my sound card sploded lol

other guys in them same channels seem to magically change volume sometimes but its not TOO bad...

also if you seem to have a lot of DCing errors go ask Vivox about it, they're the ones that made the Voip interface so they more about it then CCP does

Assuming you have a ping of 19 (like me muaha) and trillions of isk which aren't riding on your ability to keep fleet coherence in the face of soul crushing lag - nothing much.

Everyone else, which is everyone who indulges in actual ship violencing, needs teamspeak. I exclude mumble and jabber because, frankly, they are like being fisted to death in the car park by an over-zealous blind date.

This Pretty much, good thing for some of these smaller corps that can't host or wont host their own TS servers, there are people like me hosting them for isk. and oh look, I have slots available Very Happy

I haven't had issues with EVE voice in quite a while, but I don't often use it.

I would be interested if people have had luck with it connecting through EVEGate. I'm not sure how the process works from there, if it stays up in the event of a server crash, etc.

well I cant speak for other corps but we use TS because we all play other games too, and its nice to be able to see what your corpies are doing at any given time, or to be able to call for backup.

when using eve voice you don't have the ability to jump channel and pull a couple of guys out of LoL to pad the fleet or run defense, or tackle that mission runner who only sees 1 guy in local and gets too ballsy for his own good.

while there's not many reasons to not use eve voice, there's many more reasons to use something else

Been using it completly hassel free since they introduced it... Sometimes it's even better quality than my mobile phone.

EV does not get used by big players for the same reason voice chat is not used by major WoW guilds(Wow has in game voice too as do multiple other MMORPGs) the biggest and most important reason is TS/Vent do not go down when the game client crashes or the servers go down or a node melts and resets.

if your Baslisk pilot crashes to desktop he cant tell everyone to hit their own shield boosters(if they have them) or for another Logi pilot to pick up his hole while he relogs into EVE if they are depending on EVE voice.

Also there is a large element of social power and prestige in supplying out of game voice comms.

Its always worked fine for me. I think it gets unfair bad rep because its not ideal for meta gaming with fleets and multiple accounts.

This is because The Ale House hardly ever hits above 20 Voice users. In fleets, EVE Voice fails so hard when you start approaching 100 users.

Next time, learn to contextualize your post, genius.

Sounds like a major issue with your phone, might want to get that fixed.
