"The thought of someone only playing to maintain their fashion empire is pretty awesome."

This quote is from the guy that is lead designer of internet spaceships?

Edit - Selfishly this is what i want the lead designer of internet spaceships to say....

"The thought of someone only playing to maintain their fashion empire makes me want to cry then load my tears into an aoe DD and blow the **** out of EVE"

I don't understand why providing people with more options about how they can play EVE is a bad thing. Plus, he was just stating that it was a cool idea in the context of the sandbox--he did not say that he would be switching BFF's focus in any way.

Oh, you're talking about this interview?

I found your decontextualized and scary statement here:

Quote:

I think we could definitely make it more “sandboxy” by allowing more customization. So instead of us designing everything, letting the players design/customize their own clothes and then re-selling them to other players. I’m a pretty massive fan of adding as many different playstyles into EVE, and the thought of someone only playing to maintain their fashion empire is pretty awesome. Player created professions are extremely powerful and much better than anything we could ever create.

I'm actually pretty excited for what I read in the article Wink

But why restrict what players can do? The more people playing EVE, the better, no matter what they're doing, in my opinion. Odds are that anyone who plays EVE just for fashion reasons will eventually undock so they can pew pew, and be pew pew'ed. It doesn't make sense to me to be against that.

This is the same rational that says: "The thought of someone bombing, invading and killing off the population of a foreign nation to keep my SUV [Stupid Urban Vehicle] all "Bling" and going is pretty awesome" - CCP has become a "George W. Bush" mentality - "Shock and Awe" - this from a [totally disgusted] Veteran of the US military. Get used to this, CCP is just a micro version of the global attitude of the "cult or self" mindless idiots of the majority that is humanity. Be scared, be very scarded!!! Neutral

I see both of your points here, how having that as an option to play is interesting, but that thought does worry me, because that thought could lead to bad places (Example: "Eve: The new social networking game")

yeah, a billion alliance alts bloating out the DB with hundreds of thousands of duplicate bits of crap to fund their supercap fleets.

good luck finding ratters and indies to pew when all the money makers are in station 24/7 at the design tool tweeking the trim on their newest t-shirt offering.

kindly explain how yet another station feature that eliminates the need to undock is going to help

Well, ignoring your hyperbolic straw man "a billion alliance alts", you must have missed what I wrote: "Odds are that anyone who plays EVE just for fashion reasons will eventually undock so they can pew pew, and be pew pew'ed. It doesn't make sense to me to be against that."

Again, why be against a sandbox feature that might attract and keep new players? (as long as that feature doesn't detract from FiS) Seems to me that limiting the number of potential targets in space is counterproductive to pvp.

no, odds are against them undocking.
making eve all things to all people will destroy what eve is and it will become SL in space.

Remember when you were a kid? GI joe came with an assortment of clothes and options, but it never enticed the girls to bring their Barbies over to play war games in the back yard.

same here, imo enticing gamers who have little or no interest in pvp into a pvp centric game benefits nobody, except for the CCP bean counters wondering where the cash to finish dust will come from.

Since when did you give a crap about how someone plays fairly in Eve Online? I strictly do mining, manufacturing and bot hunting, but I don't complain about others playing the roles of just either a market trader, pirate or a missioner. How others play the game fairly is none of my concern.

Players actually making the clothes would be a million times better than "Hey, unlimited invincible items spawned in any station you'd like in EVE" that we currently have.

I disagree. I think they will eventually undock. Again, why now allow that possibility in game? Are you against adding potential targets to space? As for "making eve all things to all people", that is a straw man argument that is not worth discussing.

Hmm, so having more subscribers/players, and thus more potential targets in space, is a bad thing? Remind me not to put you in charge of my MMO company.

Why do people keep comparing CCP to the Goons? Last time I checked, the Goons are no longer a threat.

well it may be good for high-sec wardec corps, but I remain confident it will not fix low and null or boost their populations yet the drain on server resources will affect everyone

"hey guys, lets hang on this sentence here and make some drama out of it. don't worry this won't have a negative impact on the game I pay to play."

The ******s who continue to troll this community are the people breaking EVE.

EVE has always been a horrible game. The ONLY thing that makes this game worth logging on for is the other people you log in with. By pushing away the veterans by your retoric and hanging on the negative and not being constructive. You are what is breaking EVE.

I'm not going to pretend that CCP doesn't have a huge part in the problems that are EVE, but please, stop making it worse.

I wasn't comparing anyone to anything. Kristoffer Touborg is a long-time member of goons. (He was even a goon director, stoffer ninjapirate.)

There is one thing i heard from the vets, when i started to play.

"Don't try to do everything. Because if you are a jack of all trades, you are master of none!"

It's a SPACESHIP game! When are you peoples understand this?

They already said they have LIMITED resources, so way waste with things NON RELATED with spaceships?
So the idea of being a master fashion king, or whatever, it's just stupid!

Squeeee, I'm going to get two more accounts just for my fashion empire!Very Happy

As I read in a trading guide "They call themselves pirates just because they blow stuff up." There's alot more going on in the game than you peons out shooting ****. This is a game that encompasses virtual psychopaths blowing up **** to Machiavellian masterminds twisting the game to their own ends. It’s that depth that makes the game interesting.

1. They want to move the game beyond spaceships to make it a more complete sci-fi experience.
2. It's hard to repurpose code used to create a FPS or vampire game into something relevant to a pure spaceship game.

IF people want fashion designer to be a job in EVE then fine

I selfishly would much rather have a lead designer for the spaceship part of EVE to be a bitter ******* who would rather burn all the clothes in EVE is a bon fire while laughing maniacally then think its awesome.......so sue me

The idea of a player who is a "fashion designer" in Eve doesn't bother me.

As long as they are impacted SOMEHOW by the spaceship portions of the game. I.e., can only design/produce in a station in 0.0 owned by their alliance, ect. I don't really care how, but somehow.
