Hey guys, I need some advice on how to clear Lv4 missions. I have a Typhoon and a Maelstrom and so far my issue is that the Typhoon needs a ton of skills I don't have trained up yet to really get it working like good missile skills and drones, and the maelstrom I have issues with range. Artillery cannons are great dps against long ranged, but sometimes enemy BS move in too close for them to be good. Often I have to warp out and swap guns to do enough damage to kill some BS.

I keep feeling like a missile boat would be easier for low SP pilots like myself to begin level 4s due to the lack of range issues. I'm not too heavily invested in Minmatar BS skill yet, should I start training up for a Raven or start working on tech 2 large projectiles to help my dps issues?

Just roll with Autocannons, a shield booster and speed mods. Get light drones on scrambling frigs ASAP and watch for spawn triggers. I'd recommend the Mael or Tempest (training towards Mach, maybe Varg).

Also, check out for mission reports. Helps a TON once you know what to shoot/not to shoot.

Alot of people swear by the Pirate Faction battleships if you want to stick to Minmatar. Otherwise the missile boats give the best results since they don't have to worry about tracking and have amasing range.

All ships are going to require a lot of skills though. Tech 2 tank and guns are something you should concentrate on as well as cap skills no matter what race you choose.

You could try the auto cannons thing. That would slice up your enemies, but the disadvantage is sometimes you'll spend time getting in range and have to tank the mission, in some missions that would be difficult, you'd be warping out before you can kill anything.

Have you thought about fitting a web to pin down anything that gets too close, making tracking less of an issue?

Typhoon looks like an awesome battleship (never tried it) but you do need a ton of skills to fit and fly it properly.

I used to do my lvl 4 missions in a raven with cruise missiles and a pack of warrior II's. Then I got a tengu. The tengu is an awesome mission ship. Fit it for speed, heavy missiles. If you don't have the skills yet, use the raven. Use range to avoid the pve blob.

The Mael is an excellent mission ship, but you do have to fit it our right.

When trying it out, it may be best to stick with either 1200's or 800 ACs, and fit an AB/MWD. Use that to bring your ship in/out of range of the rats. Dictating range with an AB/MWD is the Maelstroms advantage. the Ravens advantage is the incredibly long range of its cruises, so it doesn't need to move much at all. The DOmi's advantage is drone selection.

So yeah. Use an AB/MWD, and have a corpie in system at least to help you out if you run into any trouble.

You would have saved yourself much heartache had you followed this train of thought from the start.

If you are a new player to this game and plan to make isk doing missions, train for T2 heavy missiles and the ability to fit a T2 passive shield tanked Drake. You will make more isk faster than any other path bar none.

Typhoon mite not look it but you realy dont need high skills to do well in level 4's with it.

For dps all you realy need is level 3 in ship/missils/projectials and heavy drones.

That's just to get though them. To get good with it will take alot longer as you have 3 weapon systems to master. Missils/Projectails and drones. Most none primary drone battle ship only needs t2 lights. But for you both t2 heavys and senterys can pay off big.

But with level 3 skills and a few level 4 support skills you can take them easy. After that your realy just training for a better tank/gank and better fits.

I started out with level 3 guns/heavy drone tech 1 and tech 2 med/lights. Tech 2 armor repx2 but tech 1 hardners tech 2 cap rechagers tech 1 meta 4 cruise launchers and auto cannons. cruisex5/autox3.

After you can fit that your good to roll. First thing to work on is toping off cap and fit skills so you can put a target painter in mid but that will mean removing a cap recharger and thats why toping off cap skills inc. your dps. I came from using a Dom to Typhoon so I topped off drone/armor skills first then moved to Missils. But if I was coming up from start I would say Missils/armor first then move to drones. I say drones before guns only becouse your heavys will do way more dps then 3xauto cannons.
