It looks horrible. After watching the vid and thinking the actual space in itself looks beautiful, I followed a few extra videos and went to the site and while it's free flying sim type thing, the combat looks terrible, the ships look disgustingly bland and well, there's not much to do...at all. It could work I guess, and while freespace or elite were great games, this seems to try to take a bit of both of those and eve and throw them together, but eve is superior graphically in a lot of departments and is an old game. Sure it's in alpha and will be a long time off, but only the scenery looks awesome atm. rest seems crap |

If you could fly around like that in eve, that would be hardcore. Imagine interceptor dog fights over a planets surface and cool stuff like that. Combat would feel so much more immersive if you could maneuver in that type of way. |

the grand scale space is beautiful and then transition to atmo is cool but thing up close don't look at that good |

Are you serious? I want you to call NASA and have them take you into Space. And in the context of EVE, it has never been about just spaceships. I used to come to this forum and find topics worth reading, but now... a mega-mountain of those resistant to change/forward motion and, to be quite honest, stupidity. I keep coming back hoping to find something worth reading or replying to, but then I come across topics created by the likes of a person that truly believes Space is all about the ships with which we use to traverse the darkness. Give me a break. |

Um... no it doesn't? Despite this project being pretty old; you definitely cannot say it looks horrible. If this game ever actually were finished and released as is; without any improvements and was a viable sandbox alternative (read: No WoW in space). Infinity's skybox is infinite times much better than the one in EVE. And most important, it is not prerendered. Plus you have all sort of fancy nebulas there.
From what I have seen so far the new background which will come in the Winter expansion won't even come close to this Infinity stuff - and that is by now already a few years old!
Plus you have all the time of the world to render stuff because it already takes 3-10 seconds to change systems, time in which you can render the skybox for the next system.

They have, they live in the UK, and they are now 162 million sterling better off thanks to Euromillions lottery. Let's hope they are an avid EVE fan... ...or maybe not too keen, otherwise they might end up buying 26,129 golden scorpions instead (at current exchange rates). |

That looks epic! It's only a tech demo so textures and stuff look bland, but being able to transition from the space vacuum to atmosphere in real time looked sick.
I don't know how well it would work in an MMO setting though! |

you know all those movies with pretty space battles? yeah thats not how they would work.
players in Zero G combat = endless circle strafing. And if combat worked like that, imagine trying to fight in anything bigger than a battlecruiser. would be no point, just a giant blaster magnet for frigs. |

Yes I can. It looks like a '90s Star Trek episode: everything is made of plastic and with no sense of scale, very unrealistic lighting, and with the same blatant disregard for reality as EVE. It did make me want to dig out some old Voxel-based games and see if could get those going under DOXBox. Mmmm… Comanche.  |
