There is an ongoing discussion about this topic in General:

I thought this might be a more appropriate channel for discussing it. Does anyone have a good idea/explanation to suggest to CCP, for explaining the place of NEX vanity items in the game's fiction? Especially, how they survive podding? Why do they cost more than a battleship?

I'm not looking for snark and trolling like "it's just a game, deal with it" - this is an RPG, and community driven, and I think any immersion-impacting issue can be food for the imagination.

I don't know if CCP would consider the topic important enough to merit a Chronicle, but I'm hoping.

I believe the CCP Devs have mentioned something along the lines that they are destroyed but your clone will have the same items made available free of charge in the station where the medical bay is situated. Which then could explain the high price if they're constantly replaced. You're not buying one set but every subsequent set that you'll be needing if you get killed as well.

Same thing with the clothes when leaving the rather exposed pod after docking. Do capsuleers track the remains of the pod goop through the station? I think rather not...

Let's just think that there are nanites cleaning up the mess and perhaps stitching the clothes onto the capsuleer's body as soon as the pod is opened. And the NeX items are just highly expensive construction schematics you have purchased the license for usage and not the actual items.
