Eve is dying

Yep, the recent "issues" highlighted to me just how limited Eve really is.

It is not a sandbox (it merely aspires to be one).

I'm such a sad old man that I wanted (and still want) an electronic version of that old perennial Traveller. But how does a mere computer game compete with the majesty of human imagination?

Sadly we'll have to wait several years (and another publisher) for something even approaching this level of sophistication.

Farewell CCP, it was fun until the Enlightenment dawned...

Its quite interesting to see how often revolutionaries often end disillusioned after the revolution, and become bitter, and ready for the next revolution. So often leaders mislead those who follow them.

You guys are soooo mainstream.
I was filled with ennui regarding EVE for over a year now.

Akita was ****ed off before it was cool!

And now I'm all "meh, MT, who cares", just like most of the rest will be in 1-2 years from now...
...dammit, they're mainstreaming me !

You will comply.

Living with CCP is like living with a untrustworthy and deceitful lodger. You are just waiting for them to do the dirty on you, and you know that one day they will.

Yes, I can relate to this. I did resub (non-recurring), but I barely log in to the game. Only to set a new skill... which happened once. Currently I check the forums more than any other element of the game. And even that gives me a bad taste in the mouth. Why do I keep doing this?

I guess you could say that I've lost my uNF to play. I hardly logon and yeah, the energy/willpower to play is gone. Don't know if it's permanent... my last hiatus took 1,5 year before I came back. Maybe I would regain willpower quicker if Hilmar would step down... Hope I'm allowed to say that. I don't see it happening anyway.

100% spot on how I feel. Going to likely let my two plexed accounts just expire. Hilmar wouldnt even accept there is a problem, much less apologize much less step down.

After reading the latest dev blogs, its Obvious EVE is a sandbox....for other CCP products. Obbious dev is bored with EVE..but is too invested to pull the plug on eve and the stockholm syndrome addicts who keep shoveling cash into for a PSYCHOTIC vision of eve being real...well thats insaaane talk. My wife is real. The hug from my children is real. A fu cki ng video game is personal entertainment...nothing more. Seek therapy. Seriously, you need help Hilmar.

It hasn't helped that the last couple of expansions have added barely any actual content to the game. Previous expansions made changes (new ships / mechanics etc) that altered the game in some significant way and helped keep things interesting but as cool as the new turrets and CQ look they add no actual value to gameplay.

something changed in me about eve as well ...

it's like I realized the emperor wasn't wearing any clothes and that CCP was never going to do what I wanted with eve, nor what I think many people wanted ... fix it.

If the winter expansion was "we fixed the game", I think I'd resub, which sadly I cancelled due to MT fears, and now I am satisfied it is over, but my heart is gone.
