I'm about 2 weeks away from being able to fly one but I have done a lot of reading about how to fit them but I don't get it with the factions fits.

Surely the rats aren't that dangerous?

AFK mining, and a perceived need to leave the tank on permanently.

Heh. I'm not sure why anyone would faction fit a Hulk. The extra tank faction fittings provide isn't enough to keep a drooling suicide ganker from attacking and destroying your "loot piñata".

You don't need to faction fit for hisec.

Hulk fitting - new player suggestions?

I don't recommend using any faction or deadspace in hisec. You only need it in nulsec if you are trying to tank NPC battleship spawns, and then you are better off with an alt in a combat ship to clear those.

I've cleared hisec level 4 mining missions that have cruisers and frigates with a Hulk and 5 Hammerhead drones, no shield booster, and no faction modules.

Since the OPs question relates to highsec, I think it is obvious to state that you don't need to faction fit a Hulk for tanking. Most rats have a hard time putting a dent in the Hulk's tank. You'd have to be afk for a while to have any issues. If it makes someone feel better, they can permarun a small shield booster, if just to see near-max shield percentages at all times.

If you do your own hauling back and forth to a station, I can't imagine that highsec rats would put your tank into difficulty before you're ready to warp away with your current load...shield booster, or not.

There is no reason to fit them with expensive modules in high sec. If an experianced suicide gankers wants your ship and you do not have maxed tanking skills and a logistics boost you are not going to survive. High sec rats will not harm you even all you have is a t1 shield booster. Forget the faction fits.

I've got faction fit everything on my non-tanked hulk, with tech 2 cargo rigs in there just for kicks. It has served me well in ossogur for quite some time. That's how I made my first trillion.

I would have to agree that faction fitting a hulk is just asking for suicide gankage in hi-sec.

Wait, strike that, don't listen to me. Do what the guy before me said. And then send me a mail so I can join your next mining op.

Cause that's how some Carebears roll. They like to show off their bling to all those gankers who be scanin them and drooling over their stuff. They want to make em jealous of their estamels. Now if you excuse me I must go pod myself for typing like this.
