something I was just thinking about, is that the freighters should have a ship maintenance bay that is just big enough to fit the largest industrial of that race of ships.
point form
-only carries industrial ships, may allow a hulk or something, but would prevent this from being over abused
-could be carried over into JF as well
-can not be accessed from space
-ship bay sizes
-providence/ark = 260km3
-charon/rhea = 270km3
-obelisk/anshar = 275km3
-fenrir/nomad = 255km3

I just thought it would be fitting for something big and slow to have something available for micro management once you get to your final destination.

it's not for hauling ships, it's for bringing a small more agile hauler with your massive ship for once you arrive. and because it would take 4-5 trips with an orca to haul what a freighter can haul.

why would you need an industrial after carrying a bunch of stuff to its "final destination"?

ah hah...

so it's not really going to its final destination... just hte last leg of the journey that it can be comfortably be fit into a freighter...

TBH, that's about the only "valid" reason I can see for this... though packing an industrial up and moving it isn't the end of the world (unless it's rigged -- in that case, freighter plus orca is the current way around this).

Just today I wished I could have done this. Had to go out on a circuit to grab some old stuff that had been laying around. Some was in low sec so I put a BR in a can and took it with me in the freighter so I could go into low sec and get those things as well. Fortunately I had an unrigged BR handy so it was not a big deal. But it would be nice to have a ship array that I could keep a BR or a DST.

I don't want to fly 2 ships, if I did I would just fly the freighter and an itty 5 down.

A freighter should not have a SMB because its not a (super)carrier - its a freighter, just a vessel with a large cargo bay for hauling packaged goods.

A method which works for ships is packaging via transport contract and put the "transport box" into your freighter cargo.
