Perpetuum online has terrible graphics, a horrible UI and seems to glitch out a lot.

Reminds me of eve when I first started playing, really.

I'd also just like to say that Perpetuum basically ripped Eve off verbatim and inserted the word robot wherever they found the word spaceship, and yet they still managed to come up with a more interesting mining system.

/me aggrees strongly with OP.

Perpetuum is trying to become EVE, and they are failing hard on a few initial important steps. Each GM's has chars all over the place. GM's are the spies of this game. They are in lots of opposing corps. Worst thing is. They got these accounts for free.

Forget about PO, despite having a second revival, it's doomed to fail, with DEVs being so tight knit to old beta players, and seemingly not caring the least (except for the wallet) of new players.

m2s, a very famous corp in Perpetuum, is absolutely crawling with GM's. GM's having spies in all the corporations they fought. No wonder they kicked everyones ass time after time.

It is not a game, it is a show.

I like Perp. I understand that others may not for various reasons. Really, with any game you should try it, especially when it offers a free trial, and decide for yourself. Forum opinions can only get you so far.

Also, op does seem to be an idiot. Obviously anyone who does not share your opinion is a crappy player? Logic, you fail at it sir.

As a half-miner EVE player who recently tried Perpetuum and attempted to recreate his character there...

No, I would not personally say Perp has a more interesting mining system. It's still just shooting lasers at rocks - they just inserted a few fiddly extra steps that bog the entire process down in needless clicking. If they wanted to add sensor requirements to find underground minerals, that's fine, but they should have just made that an extra fitting requirement instead of a tedious minigame in and of itself.

However, I do think the game has potential, if/when the devs start recognizing that they are a mech game and simply putting slight twists on the stuff they're copying off of EVE is hamstringing their game. The UI needs work, mechanics need work, and it's far from polished enough to hold my interest at the moment, but who knows? Maybe in the future I'll give it another try and find it vastly improved. Or maybe it'll flop. Guess we'll see.

I've had an account for a few months there, but I find it even harder to find the will to log in.

Plus its struggling a bit, so its only moments away from MT splurging in everywhere.

Going to have to actually call you out on this one, I was in M2S for about a week, the corp is more or less dead, they have like 1-2 dudes online entire US TZ and a few more in EU TZ, every charactor in that corp and all their alts that had been in for about a month or so before their ceo got caught duping, had their entire assets removed from the game. I mean completely cleaned out as if they remade their characters. People were banned, Devs laid the smack down hard, and more or less name and shamed them for it. Its not like what happened with say, t20 incident.. More like what happened with the evoke ferro dupe.

Yeah, I heard that story about the fall of m2s. Glad to see it happen, though it was not their first time cheating, the other times were just thought as they used ingame mechanics.

Nevertheless, what I wrote about Perpetuum, in a prior post, is still true to the bone.

I'm enjoying Perpetuum. Sure the UI is clunky and the graphics are meh but Eve never exactly blew me away in those areas either. The combat in really fun, dodging in and out of cover keeps even ratting tolerable, I could never standing ratting in Eve but it's interesting enough in Perp. Lots of the PVE is pitched for groups too so cash grinding isn't such a boring solo activity. Also, while they obviously borrow a hell of a lot from Eve they've added their own ideas too like teleport/docking mechanics, anti blob mechanics and of course line of sight keeps things dynamic and interesting.

It's nice to explore a fresh new sandbox and feel like a lost little newbie again.

people coming back to their one true love, EVE, will become a distant memory once TOR and GW2 come out. you will see subs bleed en masse unless the CCP trolls re-establish the game's niche after years of not giving a damn.

One difference is the the Devs have said what CCP will not; No Non-Vanity Item. Period. Not any of this corp doublespeak BS of "well, we sort of might not have any plans for them until we sort of lie to you and put it in anyway".

Also, Perp is pretty cool. The PvP is way different, the industry is intriguing; That said, it has quite a ways to go on refinement of features. I wasn't around in 2003, but I like the fact it is a work in progress.

Manufacturing is more interesting too (building prototype's or reverse engineer found items, then building calibration templates off of that to set up a manufacturing line), and PVP with obstacles and anti-blob mechanics is pretty refreshing.

UI is actually pretty good, it's very customizable and generally just clean and clear.

People should have an open mind. Try new things. Enjoy the variety that the online gaming world has to offer.

But I have to ask myself. Why go join another game and then come here to tell everyone you did it?

I can think of no legitimate reason for this. I can think of plenty of reasons for it if the people doing it were 6 years old. But 6 year old shouldn't be playing EVE in the first place.

Please enlighten me as to why you feel the need to do this?

Edit:Your Mom

I could care less about MT. Make it P2W and game dies. Otherwise it's just morons trying to outspend each other. I live [MESSAGE REDACTED], I'm used to that.

What ****es me off is that CCP has been pulling enough money to fund 2 other games, while EVE is left with so many fundamental flaws- like worst ui ever, too many clicks to do simple things that should be hot-keyed anyway (I'm talking to you cargo containers with your left clicking and right clicking and your make-out parties. Also talking to you targeting!), not to mention the fact I now have crows-feet and need glasses because I played for a year on a 24" HD monitor and had a passing whimsy of actually reading the stuff in front of me. And after YEARS and $1000s from me CCP still can't be bothered to either address the security issues and allow 3rd party addons or, god forbid, polish the existing layout or add some customization-ibility...

AND insult to injury, the games the ARE developing are a FPS on a console I don't have, and (what seems to me) and utterly stupid, pointless Vampire jerk-fest which could have been considered an interesting idea 4-5 years ago but is now so cliche as to be silly.

BTW yes I unsubed, and no, I intend to put all my stuff into Jet Cans and blow them up. I wouldn't care if your real lives depended on it I wouldn't share .01 Isk with any of you. It's for the best.

I don't compare Perpetuum to EVE. I don't see the similarity. They both have RT skill systems. Beyond that, they are two completely different games. Even in that, Perpetuum has 525,600 EP a year. It's written in stone. 1 a minute, no debates.

They actually have a more complex Industrial game. You can't buy BPOs you need to reveal protype technology through PvE kills and then reverse engineer and redevelop that technology.

PvP is consent and flagged system. You can't at any point force me to PvP with you.

I've been there a week and a bit and I refuse to slag EVE. 8 years of longevity makes EVE a respected MMO. These guys are a nooblet, small group of developers who put a game together. It is no threat to EVE and is a benefit to this game. I'm not here *****ing and complaining how EVE fails and sucks. I go there, play thier game, enjoy it. Crash every hr from a memory leak and shrug it off. Its a good game, one I can play and pay for in addition to EVE. It won't replace EVE, not for me, not for the Genre and not for most who play EVE.

I'm not married to EVE, I'm not dating Pertuum. I like them both.

Then proceeded to laugh out loud and closed the program and quickly installed it.

You know what the really sad thing is? CCP could have have developed something like this along side EVE instead of DUST. Imagine an extension of PI and having to create a crew of "Planeteers" to go get T2 / POS materials.

I was also contacted by a GM within ten minutes of starting the game, offering advice and asking if I had any issues. It was a nice touch and made me feel welcome. The "Ex-eve" channel currently runs at no lower (when I've logged on at least) than 100 players, and I have seen the server get up to around the 850 mark of players online. That is an increase of almost 50% since 21st June (I wonder what happend then?).

There was lag at first, probably from the shock of so many signing up so quickly, but a patch to fix it was implemented very quickly AND everyone got some free days subscription for their inconvience.

As one of the P-O devs said:

"Obviously many of you have been burnt by false promises which results in general distrust towards game companies. I'm not here to ask your trust, how could I, this is just a devblog, not a contract. I'm merely asking you to judge us by our past, present and future actions. We are very much aware what happens when you play with the trust of your customers."

Improved CCP communications would help themselves in fulfilling this, but then again so would investing some development effort in fixing and making good on promises already made to improve gameplay and fix existing issues.

Fly Safe !!!

This.

Says it all, right there. But, by the same token, someone really needs to remind CCP that they can indeed do a great deal wrong, and that their **** does, indeed, smell just as bad as everyone else's.

Apropos nothing else whatsoever, I was all rarin' ta go, fired up to try Perp-O, but, then, objectivity returned, and everything--And I do mean everything--I saw of that game just left me underwhelmed*. Profoundly so.

Sorry, funsters, but I need a little depth in my pixel-universe, even if it is informed by as many sci-fi tropes as EVE is (In all fairness, though, it's pretty damned hard to get away from that in this day and age.).

*Hey, Perp-O devs, could you be a little less subtle about thief'ing another game's whole damned UI in future--I think a few blind and/or dead people might have missed that. In the words of Sol Burke, "Champion!"

Well, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery--And I'd be feeling quite flattered indeed if I were a CCP UI-dev and just got a look at that game.

<cynicism>

Even more so if it's true what I've been hearing, and that Perp-O was started by a bunch of disgruntled ex-Goons...I must say, that is an absolutely delightful irony, especially in hindsight of the last 2 weeks, if true. Twisted Evil
