I am just wondering if the movement controls are designed around a gamepad. The controls are nothing like a normal MMO's controls and are clumpsy at best. If they are indeed designed with gamepads in mind I for one would like to express my disapointment at CCP being to damn lazy to give PC players something better than this subpar control method.

I guess it maybe safe to assume that we got these crap controls because of DUST514 being a console game? So having eve players use the same control method while walking around would save the devs some work? People may think it's not that big of a deal now since we only have an area the size of an average bedroom to walk around in. But will you feel the same way if the stations ever get opened right up and you have far greater areas to walk around in?

Sory folks I am just venting as I am more than just a little peeved at PC gaming consistently being bent over and getting a subpar product because of frigging comsoles.

It sure feels that way, doesn't it?

Honestly I like the control and feel of CQ. Im not sure what other MMOs you are talking about but games like WoW just feel like your hovering around, there isent any weight to your movement. CQ feels a bit more realistic to me.

I am not talking about how your char interacts with the floor or objects around him. I am talking about the method in which you move him around, it's cumpsy as hell. Pushing down the mouse button to steer your view then releasing it while holding a direction key down in order to get the char to change direction is frigging ******ed. For an MMO it should be as simple as pressing forward then guiding/steering yourself with the mouse. It's very stunted as it currently is and needs some improving.

Hell click to move like an old school RPG or MMO would be preferable to what we currently have.

Actually, you can click-to-move. Just double-click somewhere.

That's not really working well, it works for the ships that just go that direction, but not really for the character. Steering (mouselook) with one button held down is not unheard of, but it's carpal tunnel syndrome in the works in the long run, so I'm hoping there'll be other options for moving.

Click-to-move would require more zoom, though, and for WASD a mouselook toggle would be ideal.

Dude try left clicking and pushing forward... you can control like that and steer around with the mouse. You can also click to move, just gotta double click. Although i prefer to just hold down both mouse buttons and move around.

If they would just add an auto-run keybind (or, auto-meander rather) and switch the mouse buttons so that left mouse button is look and right mouse button is turn, I'd be completely happy.

As it is now, it's a bit awkward.

Dont load station environment untill they upgrade the station environment.

I heard they were putting somethign cool in in the future where you load the station much more quickly and then get a veiw of the ACTUAL ship you are in.. Its going to be totally immersive... maybe the ship will spin too.

You're doing it wrong. Or you're a terrible troll. Right click to control your view, left click to walk in the direction you're looking. Pretty much the way it is with every other MMO. Now all they need is a Run mode, and to make movement less sluggish.

I dont know which WOW you played but I moved around in WOW the same as in CQ as far as I can remember. I didnt play it(wow) for long because they broke my client in cataclysm.

The movement difference between WoW and CQ is the same as the difference between Call of Duty and Killzone 2. Even if the controls were the exact same it would feel completely different.

I think the reason it feels a bit off is the walking speed. We are used to running in other games so moving at this slow speed feels heavy and just odd. That and the small room doesn't provide much space to walk around in the first place.

The movement controls are actually pretty standard and I'm not sure what people here are complaining about. Use W to move forward, hold down left mouse button and steer camera plus char at the same time, just like WoW.

A and D could be replaced with strafing instead of turning, that would feel more natural.

Hold both L & R mouse buttons = move

Moving mouse = direction change.

Not so awkward unless you're a complete fuc...NO! I told myself I would stop making fun of the stupid.

It's so cruel.

WASD has been around as standard movement controls for a couple of decades of PC gaming.

The one thing they're missing is Q and E. It would also be nice if they swapped left and right clicks.

In many games, A and D turn your character when you're not clicking, while Q and E strafe. When you hold down the right mouse button, A and D make you strafe as well. When you hold down both mouse buttons, your character moves in the direction you're looking. This allows you to have rudimentary control your character with just your keyboard or just your mouse, and then you use both hands if you want to have better control.

They got most of that right, but they're still a bit lacking.

Usually with WASD, the A and D keys either turn or 'strafe' your character left and right respectively.

Often, if you don't simultaneously press W and just press A or D, your character either stands on the spot and rotates around its vertical axis or 'slides' left or right while continuing to face forward.

This is how you can walk forward or backward while turning or moving diagonally. This is basic stuff and for many game players has become 'natural'.

The way it works in CQ is completely different; when you press A your character turns to FACE his left and walks in that direction while your camera view stays facing the same way as before. I've never seen this in any PC game before aside from top-down games. Its very unnatural and awkward feeling.

Also notice how you cannot walk backward. If you press S instead of walking backward your character turns to face the camera and walks toward it! Its just wrong.

At Uni me and couple of others raise money for charity by walking backwards for a week!

For some reason even after a week it didn't feel natural Very Happy

the double click thing works the best, it even has (shock) great pathing.

the trick is you must double click on a CQ surface and not a hangar surface
IE: if you want to go to the balcony, double click the railing or catwalk, not the hangar wall in the distance.

other than that the mouse and WSAD controls suck donkey nads, you should try it on a dual screen setup with the camera view centered on one display...

ya feel like yer drunk

I like the fact that we were given not just one but three different ways to move the character. If now there would be different walking speeds or something like that available - sometimes I want to get to a place quickly but sometimes I just loiter around.

I think that is because we are having some childlish designers who spend 96% of their time avoiding anything becomes the same with WOW.

I wanna walk straight while looking around!!!!
