Take for example Heavy Missile Launcher II's, there are only 2 contracts up for a bpc and each bpc has less then 10 runs left on it (aka not really good for production). I've been scouring around and can't really find any guide or what have you on how to invent the bpo for these (or any t2 bpo in general). Or are these random drop items from anoms/plexes?

As an invention noob myself, I was reading through the stickies (hint hint), and it seems that for invention a lot of times you get small run bpcs.

Additionally, there is no such thing as inventing a BPO. The only T2 BPOs were given out as prizes in a lottery back when nano-fleets ruled the world.

The only way to get T2 BPO's now is through other pilots, they usually go for billions due to there rarity. Getting into T2 bpc making takes a fair amount of skills, effort, and starting capital so be sure it's what you want to do, not recommended if you just want to dabble

In invention, you only produce BPC's, never BPO's. A ten run BPC for a T2 item is often the max possible. Read the recommended guide, but essentially you copy a BPO, use datacores to run invent jobs on the copies, and if you are lucky about half of them actually turn into T2 BPC's, which of course can't be ME or PE researched.

I recommend if you are planning to get into inventing, start with getting into having some research agents. (This will involve a lot of standings grinding.) With the RP you earn from them you can start buying datacores which will save you a lot of ISK later on. Even if you decide not to get into inventing, at least you'll have the datacores to sell as another revenue stream.

Hi,

Im not very good at choosing agents partly because i dont really understand what agents will mess up factions and whatever for other agents, which leads me to my noob question:

Basically i run missions for ministry of war, security, in amarr space. How/Where/When/etc can i choose a research agent who wont mess up my standings with this agent that ive already got such good reputation or whatever with???

Carthum Conglomerate might be a corp to start with for you in Amarr space, but overall there are not a lot of Amarrian research corps. Kaalakiota and Ishukone have a presence in Amarrian space, but they are Caldari research corps.

You don't have to worry about standings unless you accept player faction kill missions. If you see a Gallente or Minmatar icon in the mission briefing, even if it is a storyline, then don't accept the mission. Other storylines will never drop you below -5.0 standing, but any kill mission will quickly do that... especially if you have to destroy structures, which have a huge faction hit compared to ships.

Don't expect datacores you collect to be useful for invention. Instead, consider them as supplemental income. For example, I bought 2,000 datacores today which is far more than I could earn on my own. Sell the datacores you earn to buy the datacores and other stuff you want.

Out of curiosity do you think its better for me to just keep doing my lvl 4 missions and buy the needed data cores off of the market? and basically just not have a R&D agent at all.

You don't need to have a R & D agent to do invention, and you'll probably need more datacores than the agent can provide. Only you can decide if it is worth the effort to grind standing and then earn a passive income from datacores.

I'm also a miner, so having good standing with many Amarr and Caldari corps, as well as the Sisters of EVE, means I can refine without taxes even in Gallente and Minmatar space. R & D corps are often found in all faction space, but they don't always have good refining facilities (Lai Dai is positively the worst corp for refining facilities that I have standing with).

R & D corps don't usually have combat agents at low levels, so most of the missions are courier. They are not especially fast or fun to grind standing with, and it is even worse since the recent agent change, since few of them even have any combat agents at all.
