Ive found dscan to be a great tool to see things that are immeninent threats, like combat probes and ships types. The other day a friend and I were ratting in ennur (.4) in our hounds. we would setup on a battleship npc target at a belt. aligning to some point first, then uncloaking, throw torps til said npc blew up then warp to our safe spot.
lots of traffic thru the system and we kept an eye on descan and local whilst torping battleships and battlecruisers. Every now and then a drake and an arazu would warp into our belt just as we were hitting the warp button or just as we cloaked up. They were always just seconds too late to catch us.

What gets me though is the speed with which they would find us. two bombers uncloak, target BS, torp til ded, recloak, that is not a long time. Yet almost every time, a gang of two to four would warp in on us. I never saw combat probes in dscan. yet somehow they would pinpoint us. there were about 18 belts in the system (i think, its a lot tho) and we would skip around trying to avoid the gang.

On one belt we killed the one battleship npc and as my cursor is traveling to the warp button, having pre-aligned of course, a malediction, drake, hurricane and something else warped right on top of us. we hit warp and went to the sun. I realized as soon as we warped they knew where we were going so at the sun i immediately iniated warp to a safe spot. My hound spins around, begins to align, and the maledictioWinkn lands directly on top of my hound. at 0 meters. fortunately i wasnt bumped much and was able to warp out. mighty close tho.

so how were they able to keep finding us so quick? are they using dscan to look at individual belts?

odds are that the people you saw keep coming into the system and leaving were scouts, and as soon as they figured out where you were they had the fleet jump in and warp ontop of you, its a common tactic, just gotta watch the names/corps/alliances of the people jumping through and if you see multiple from the same corp/alliance its a good bet they found their target.

Um, you can warp to any belt in system directly from your Overview settings. No D-Scan and/or probing required (unless it was a mission-spawn belt).

As ^^ says you can just warp belt to belt, or add asteroid belt to overview and sit at a planet and quickly work out which belt exactly in a few clicks

Right, they were probably just warping from belt to belt, trying to catch people ratting. In your case, they knew you were ratting because they spotted you once, so basically they were just doing it faster because they knew they would get you.

ok, that makes sense, belts on overview, sit at a planet, align to belt, narrow scan, align to next belt, narrow scan. warp to belt. Im guessing thats why they were so quick. it was always the same two warping in first on us. thanks fellow internet spacepersons.ugh

not even that much effort is required.

gang member A hops belts from bottom of list
gang member b hops from top of list

or... they had probes out Rolling Eyes

Even worse: They just need a few probes out to find out which belt someone is sitting in. No need to get a 100% hit to tell that.
