Well, why shouldn't they have a mass protest? Its an effective way for a group of people to express their views on whatever is bothering them. A side effect of these things is, people like you come butthurt to the forums and call them nerds. More than a good reason to continue the protests imho.

It just that it was the one of the nerdiest things ive ever seen in my life. Just funny to me. Lets get in our spaceships and protest lol. Too pathetically funny/sad.

I'm well aware of what the problem is. You're all butthurt, that's what.

From reading what CSM says, CCP says, players for and against say, nothing to be raging over.

Besides, we don't want the protesters in the game. All that rage, means that they have a weaker cardiac system, which means they die quicker. We need their monies for life, a shorter life means less monies. Can't have that.

Too many here are obsessed with the game. They need to take some time and see friends and go play volleyball on the beach. Seriously. They need to leave CCP alone and give it a rest.

I see. So it's the harmless assault on the statue that bothers you. Is it because it's one of the few, harmless ways to get a little attention, or don't you appreciate the pretty lights and performance art-like expression of disatisfaction?

I just am tired of diehard gamers forgetting its a business and then turning on the devs they used to fawn over like rockstars. But the actual "hey lets float in our spaceships" protest things was just soo nerdy i loved how people dont even know how nerdy they are.

Well that's subject to your own point of view, some see it as pointless, some see it as an effective means. They got the attention of the press, they got the attention of CCP, so basically nerdy or not, the protests achieved their goals. It also gave you something to post about, so its a win for everyone. Hmm. That pathetic protest helped get CCPs attention and caused them to at least spend the coin to get the CSM to Iceland. That alone points to one unassailable fact:

Protestors: 1
Status Quo: 0

It remains to be seen what will have been accomplished in the long run, but at least they are trying, and are not so timid as to merely accept everything CCP does without question.

It's alright, Eve will end up being one nub bumping into another, the second nub gets concorded for shooting the first, then ragequitting that "It's not fair! He hit me first!. Hulks fit with mining lasers because they're faster than strip miners etc. etc.

QFE.

When I get sick of anything and dont like the direction it is taking, I let my money do the talking and go. It's a game and it's evolving. Maybe that evolution is not for some players, but it will be for others.

Deal with it.

The nerdrage accomplished something, as CCP felt the need to fly 8 people out to Reykjavik for an emergency meeting.

It just means more press. That's worth the price of the tickets.

In the scheme of things: No press < Bad Press < Good Press

This has been REMARKABLY bad press in the gaming community. I haven't seen a single gaming rag that has portrayed CCP's MT in a positive light. I don't think many people are going to read a story on PC Gamer about how the players are rioting in-game, shutting down trade hubs, and cancelling subs because the company is instituting things that players do not want, and go "Hey, that sounds like a fun game!"

If the first thing you hear about a title is that it blows chunks for some reason or another, are you going to feel inclined to spend the hours to download and try it out, engage in the incredibly steep learning curve, and pay for a subscription just because you wanted to see if the articles were right? This is going to cost CCP, not just in unsubs that were directly a result of this. Many get bored and unsub over time, and CCP relies on fresh blood to come in and replace them, and swell the ranks. After this ****storm, I would expect an immense dropoff in the number of new subs.

Oddly, I thought the attack on the statues was a pretty creative, not to mention harmless, way of getting attention. The amazing thing about it was I could choose to watch, or ignore it. Peeps expressing their opinion, without inflicting themselves on anyone else in any appreciable way.

We are going to have to agree to disagree on this. The only bad press I have heard is from a segment of the EVE Community that is against what CCP is doing. I do not see any other voices coming from the squawkbox on this subject. And sorry to say, but there is always a certain segment of the gaming population that is very passionate about the development of games (balance, endgame, microtransactions, etc.), most players simply are not. I have played games that got "bad press" before and enjoyed them, and so will others.

The trip to iceland is for show, sorry, but that is my honest opinion. CCP will be guided as all businesses are...by finances. And it has been proven too many times, that the direction gaming as a whole is going (microtransactions, whatever), is a more profitable one. Losing a few subs is to be expected and it is simply the "cost of doing business". Fly safe.
