(Posting late because one of my hard drives blew up on me, and I just got everything back up to par today...)

Now, I totally saw this coming. No doubt, a Compaq 5000 IS old as dirt (well over 10 years)... and my video card isn't new either (ATI Radeon 9550)... BUT up until the big patch, my pseudo-abacus ran Eve just fine. Not a single hitch. Not too much lag.

Enter the Captain's Quarters.

Now I find that, due to a god-damned closet in space that I SHOULD be able to DISABLE, I can't even launch the game.

Yeah I know. "Get with the times, Grandpa! Shader model 3 is where it's at!"

Over my dead hard drive! Oh, wait...

Anyway, y'all have fun. Me and my dentures are going back to Starcraft and Final Fantasy. The pixels may be as big as my thumb, but at least I don't have to fork out $1000 to continue playing them... and THAT'S worth something in my book.

Some people like to play only games from the last decade, nothing is wrong with it... There are great games to be played, most of them are better than the games of today !

But, why are you posting here? [edit: just noticed you wanted to wish us a nice time, sorry. Btw, your stuff, could I hold if for you until you come back?]

I'm playing it just fine with two year old hardware that cost under 400 at the time. Probably a lot less now. So, yeah...$1000 is a bit much of an assumption.

That said, I love old games. I still play Total annihilation regularly.

Hi 1000 dollars is probably a quote for a new computer from a store or online website.

This is a problem with CCP, they have continually updated the dressings of the game while neglecting the meat of the game. It has cost them more than a few customers as a result.

You can buy a shader 3 card for under 50 dollars, and it'll probably work on your old computer's motherboard. If you don't gave a PCIE slot there are AGP cards that support pixel shader 3.

Get a job, and stop living in your parents basement. I think it's time for you to buy another computer. it really is. I don't think he has compatible ports to put a shader 3 card in.

Yeah, I just wanted to say gl and hf to everyone before I go. I am completely addicted to this game, thus my rabid gnashing of teeth. I didn't mean to sound offensive in my previous post... it just seems that my attempt at humor was a little off.

I'll probably be back when I can squeeze a decent comp out of my budget, so no, sadly, I'm not giving away my stuff. Or extended lending. How would I do that anyway if I can't log on? Razz

You do know you can actually turn off CQ via the graphics display tab? It's only a temporary fix at the moment, but point being, you can turn it off...

and you can only get to the graphics display tab if you can launch the game, and he can't launch the game
