"I like the bit where they showed us the proof..."

Remember that? It used to be the staple answer to all sorts of wild accusations, from tales of billion-ISK kills in a frigate, to naming and shaming of corp thieves, or claims about spy games and alliance infiltration.

But nowadays, it seems all you need is to make a badly worded post from a faceless alt (the sentiment remains, even if the mechanic does not) and your word is taken as absolute truth and fact by some players.

People linking blogs (free to set up) and websites (url of choice) and twitter feeds (viral chaos) where some total stranger with an unknown agenda has written a piece of fiction and delared it as a "fact", and taking it as somehow cannon and gospel as to what's going in on an office in Iceland.

I could go register EVEleaks.blogspot or EVEnews365.com or @CCP_Insider and publish details of every hare-brained scheme I can imagine for internetz spaceships because if someone reads it, that makes it real... right ?

C'mon folks. We're supposed to be the higher intelligence end of the MMO gene pool. Prod the grey matter into life a bit before reaching for the pitchforks.

You missed the Leak of the newsletter and email or something?

Except everything leaked was either confirmed real or not commented on. As soon as someone rumoured that CCP was being bought out by sony, fallout instantly replied saying it was false, the email wasnt denied AT ALL, and the newsletter was confirmed.

If you say it enough times it becomes truth. Kind of like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The cake...I mean leak...was a lie. Or at least a feeler for reactions. They didn't expect the reactions to be coming from such uninformed idiots as "the public" though, that's all.

Yeah, don't forget the devblogs (confirmed), the NeX itself (confirmed), the Fearless newsletter (confirmed), Hilmar's email (confirmed), CCP's financial statements (confirmed), CCP's obvious silence (confirmed).

So, I'm not exactly sure what the OP is talking about.

...it was CONFIRMED TO BE A NEWSLETTER. The content, on the other hand, was not confirmed to be "something in production" like you fact-dodging fox-news trained twinky ****ters claim.

No. It would only make it subject to debate until CCP confirmed or denied it, and so far, they have been very quick with the denials, which would have weeded out your details very quickly…

Well, CCP basically rewards them for behaving like complete jackasses in game. Lying, cheating, scamming and stealing are the foundation of Eve mechanics.

- A mans character is defined by their actions in the absence of consequences.

Basically if you act like a douche because you know you can get away with it, then you are a douche IRL, and the only thing that stops your true nature from surfacing there is the fear of the consequences. "It's only a game" is just one of the excuses they use.

It was only a matter of time before they turned on their internet spaceships overlords.

There are enough, confirmed, damning evidence to suggest that CCP is doing foul play here.

I'm definitely not one who joins a vocal minority to complain about various aspects of EVE but this I am... let us say, concerned.

It's the White Knighting game! You score points by making up as much nonsense as possible, and you can exchange those points for the privilege to pay CCP money for MT content.

If you start an account CCP_whatever and pretend to be staff, ccp will ban you (even if it doesnt happen on eves servers!)...

If you tell lots of porkies on made up websites and ccp suffers finacial damage then they can seek compensation from you. As they have offices in europe and usa then they should have legal coverage to take you to court.

I think the email, and pdf were both confirmed (but those documents had also had some info removed, so they were not as good as source). The finacial statment looks legit, and from what I have heard, it's much in line with the way others are designed/published.

Lies are not covered under protection of source laws.

You mean like denial of Sony trying to buy CCP within minutes after the rumor first appeared but NO DENIALS at all of the Hilmar email, their annual financial report, the conclusions taken from that etc.?

Also you cannot mean the confirmation that the newsletter is true, can you?

Idiot.

A quick example of why the pitchforks are out- rumours of SoE takeover abound = sticky blue bar post within an hour stating categorically "No"...rumours abound of mechanics breaking p2w plans = nothing in response, the latter clearly being the bulk of the rage. Would be quite easy to diffuse with a timely sticky blue bar that one...

Hilmar's email was never actually confirmed, and was never actually denied; initially all the threads with it were deleted with Fallout giving the standard "no posting of internal communication, petitions etc. etc." reply.

Everything leaked was real. But not everything real was leaked. Specifically, the title of the document was "Greed is good?", not Greed is good" which is a hell of a difference and a lot less sensational. Not to mention the covering page stating it was a discussion exercise, which was conveniently left out of all the "reporting".

NEX is real, microtransactions are real. The Gold Scorpion was real. The accounts are public property. Not disputing any of that.

But a Sony takeover? Complete fabrication. 10,000 unsubbed accounts? No proof. "The whole player base hates CCP". Says who? Family emergencies are just an excuse? Yeah right. "My mate was banned for no reason" suuuure... And same goes for any one of the myriad of "facts" being posted and tweeted and blogged about who did what to whom and how and why.

If CCP (Or Blizzard, or Codemasters, or SOE) says "we are doing A with this game", and the players don't like the idea of A, then by all means get upset, annoyed, furious, depressed.

But if Player X says "I heard CCP are doing B" why are so many people ready to believe it straight away?

It's the 2011 version of "My best mate's girlfriend's mother overheard in the pub..."

I have seen and read the so called proof. I will say it is a internal document showing Nothing of the real future,. it looks like the first half of a tool used many places. It show the greedy side of CCP where i guess there are a document where they write a Less greedy document. or a opposite side of the subject. so it can be used as a debate platform. I have seen it used other places where changes or modifications to a product or a organisation.

all this is my speculations .. and the leaked document is a good way to hear how the players feel about MT in general. Those not so clever people who have threaten CCP employees health and safety I really hope that they get a Real life punishment. I like EVE online and have a great deal of respect for the people in and around CCP. (including players).

Personal feelings about MT; I dislike the idea with my entire being. I have seen very good games turn into a game for rich 13 years old kids play ground and they don't build up a stable fan base.

Let us cool down and start to talk about the future..
Use CSM and support them

LoL you are a complete re-tard

1. Gordon Gekko... i mean Fearless Newsletter WAS A FICTIONAL piece, go watch "Wall Street" and you will see what i mean

You can't possibly have the kind of information required to make any sort of public claims about CCP's financial viability. I don't care what "documents" you link. You don't have access to the internal information that you would need to make the kind of proclamation that you are making.

Read and understand this man has it 100% correct YOU dont, and a 7. grade education in math is not gonna help you one bit

3. "Hilmar's Email" Well hes right, or at least the mail is, (I dont trust Riverini with my morning poooh), WHY would they care about a few hundred subs? arent the last 299700 subs important? And just because you link a thread with xx number of resplys aint gonna make it the majority, since each re-tard in here can make xx number of alts and post x number of times

4. Silence?

Due to the volatility of the topic we want to refrain from any further comments on this matter until after meeting with the CSM.

It is a mistake to think that all of that newsletter was a "discussion exercise". The last several pages of the document contained feature articles that laid out CCP plans for EVE, Dust, and WoD, specifically explaining that EVE will contain game-altering virtual goods, same as the upcoming CCP titles.

Here's a quote from the newsletter feature article about EVE:

Not all virtual purchases will focus on customization: some will simply be new items, ammunition, ships, etc. that can be purchased outright.

Well, i was absolutely sceptical about the newsletter and the email. Of both i thought it was such extraordinary nonsense that everyone should wait until CCP gives an official statement about our concerns. Two late statements which mentioned not half the issues later i became _very_ concerned and joined the outcry in the forums...

It is not about what exactly is fact, it is about what CCPs does not say is no fact.
