Better cancel my account and flip my ****, because something vaguely hinted at in an internal newsletter might happen in the future.

You don't protest based on the vague thoughts of a single employee of a 600 person company, at this point I paint the majority of people who are protesting about anything other than graphics cards or ship spinning as easily excited and reactionary.

Btw, nobody has mentioned that some of the most high profile protesters are leaving EVE to go play WoT, a game were there is a literal "Gold Ammo"

And when you die in WoT your tank is gone forever and you have to start over with the noob tank, working your way back up to what you had before from scratch? Not all MTs are bad, but there is no one pricing structure that works all types of games. Eve is not a cookie cutter MMO, and it's pricing structure isn't compatable with just any other system out there. It would be just as absurd to say that EVE could work as a non-subscription box purchase game, or that Solitaire should be a monthly subscription.

The concept of "Gold Ammo" in the context of eve is so damaging because eve is a game of "real consequences". The "value" of my account to me is derived from the effort and time that I have spent to develop it, and it's why I'm proud to be a long time subscriber and wish to subscribe for many years to come. Premium power up goods sidesteps the entire building process and entirely devalues it for those that have built it up. Why should I bother building value into my account when I can achieve the same thing with a quick purchase and be on the same level as everyone else. And at that point why should I stay subscribed regularly when instead I could just plop a few bucks down for some quick smash-and-grab entertainment when it strikes my fancy every couple of months? You're left essentially with a f2p game, and a change in a fundamental structure of what the game is.

OP

In some respects I agree with you. Yes, CCP faild dismally at communicating, yes they reacted very badly to the outrage and they totally failed to react to the leaked document within a useful time frame.
This meant that people (including myself) read the news, overreacted (admittedly) and then waited for a response from CCP that did not come. While waiting they logged in to EVE, told their corp mates the news, wrote new blog entries detailing CCPs betrayal etc.etc.pp. This caused yet more people to come here, read the news, not see any response from CCP and then understandably totally lose it.

Then after 48h CCP finally responded with a dev blog that basically only made things worse. The entire 1000$-for-a-pair-of-pants affair really infuriated me. Maybe Zulu and his CITIGROUP friends can afford 1000$ for a pair of pants and in that case it’s clear that they find 70$ for a monocle acceptable. I mean, they probably earn 70$ per minute.

Anyway… This fact, coupled with the bad reaction from CCP caused the rage.

Reading things in the leaked document like CCP trying to “sneak” stuff past us definitaly didn’t help. It also doesn’t exactly make me very happy how Soundwave is talking about his customers (the people that pay his wages). The amount of disrespect and basically considering us a “nuisance” to be overcome is definitaly not the way to go for CCP (even if these are only internal thoughts – they are still thoughts unbecomming a semi-decent person).

So far we’ve been fairly forgiving with CCP (as long as they don’t betray their own vision). We put up with constant bugs, instability (mainly in the past), dismal multi-year fleet lag situation, 18 month plans that won’t be kept etc.etc. and most of us are/were still shoving vast amounts of cash up CCPs virtual rear-end.

I for my part have currently got all my subscriptions cancelled and will be waiting on the results of the CSM meeting. Then I’ll be deciding if I re-sub to EVE and stay here or if I migrate permanently to Perpetuum Online.

Having gotten confirmation that there will be no Gold Ammo or other balance chaning RMT items already is a big step in the right direction. So if CCP manages to prove that not everyone at CCP disrespects their customers (like Soundwave does) and that CCP is interested in providing a good game (and not a cash cow for ex-CITIGROUP-refugees) then I’ll probably be willing to continue shoving cash over.

How does the meme go?

The next move is now yours, CCP.

(Am I doing it wrong?)

This. PLEX is sold for ISK generated by players, and used to buy stuff created by players. MT is PLEX for items out of thin air. That is why MT for non-vanity is so destabilizing.

I would have to disagree, living up in null makes us all very rich and very good at PVP, as the previous post stated. If I want to drop a few hundred bucks to get gold ammo so I don't have to overheat my guns and waste those mouseclicks, I think I should be able to. Spending two hours ratting to buy a new carrier is hard, I would rather just swipe my card and have one delivered to my hanger. And if it was a gold-plated carrier, even better!

I'm not sure what you mean by making it more difficult to fit capital ships... As if fitting capitals was any different then a frigate... But i agree bringing back the old hanger option would cut out a lot of whiners.

2. Ensure that Incarna works with an acceptable range of modern graphics cards, and does not launch with graphics cards that will be damaged by it.

Eve is an old game. And its trying to stay new. This means that ether we keep bad graphics, or we start cutting support for older computer users. My computer is worth 400 bucks and it can run multiple eve clients with perfect FPS, so i think CCP has done a great job on this front so far. The 'melting vidcards' thing i would go as far as to chalk up as a hardware defect. There is no reason any software application should damage your videocard, unless theres something wrong with that videocard's design. EvE isnt the only game to have this problem btw.

3. Add some lower priced Items to the NeX store. $60 monocles are fine, as long as you provide a lower price option. There is just as much a market for plastic Mickey Mouse watches as there is for Rolex watches.
100% agreed. I would spend **** in there, if you get some interesting items for much cheaper price, i'd throw a PLEX, MAYBE two at it if i can get several interesting items.

4. CCP has already promised that there will be “no-gold ammo” so the pay-to win front has been covered

Michael Bolton, let us start with what you need to realize: you were not funny during the tournaments and you are not now either. (Sorry, young man!)

The moment we are being asked to understand CCP do we stop being customers. Customers do not have to understand how a business works. I do not have to understand Mercedes to buy me one, for example.

All a customer needs to know is what they can get. If it is not in the store then you cannot buy it. One can then try to sell the customer something else instead, but it needs to meet the demand of the customer. Neither vanity items nor micro transactions are playable content.

The demands of the players may be wide-spread, but all they want is playable game content. Incarna did not deliver such. Incarna has given us, next to some bug fixes and a few new features, a dirty Motel room, a dress-up doll and an expensive souvenir shop.

So when players now unsubscribe in order to protest then it is their right as customers to do so. And they should continue doing so, because EVE did not make us into lambs.

As a corporate entity it would be very wise of CCP to listen to the complaints and grievances of it's paying customers. There are always complaints, and CCP can't please everyone but if CCP makes a mistake and we make enough noise about it then maybe they will listen when it matters. That's why.

This is the stupidest comment I've seen yet on the topic.

They never had issues sustaining their finances before, so why now? They had more subscribers than ever before, yet their O&M costs haven't changed much. CCP basically had the perfect ongoing business model, and unless they're completely business stupid should have been making a big fat profit off of Eve subscriptions.

Most of CCP's devs, artists, etc. have been working on other projects (Dust) recently... a fact made evident by the lack of content and polish on the last [few] Eve expansion[s]. The only reason CCP has to suddenly be greedy (aside from padding their pockets) is to support things like Dust. Frankly, I have NO intention of paying for Dust out of my wallet, especially when it means less/worse Eve content, and I have no intention of buying Dust anyhow.

I really enjoyed your commentary during the tournament, however:

Gold Ammo does not specifically rule out anything. They might not sell gold (coloured?) ammo, but what is to stop them from selling ships, modules etc.?

OH HERE WE GO.

Okay, you mongoloid. You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to explain to you in very simple terms what the devblog means.

When they use the quotes around "gold ammo" they're referring to the talking point being used. That talking point is that non-vanity MT items are coming to EVE, which has been commonly referred to as "gold ammo". They are saying no such thing is occurring. They have made reference to the common term being used.

You are seriously an idiot. Please look back and re-evaluate your life, and please consider taking some basic classes on communication as you apparently don't understand the use of narrative rather than speaking literally at all times.

Get out.

That is your "interpretation" of what he said. They have an out.

6 months from now, if they introduce MT for ships, you're going to link his blog and say "YOU SAID YOU WOULDN'T ADD MT FOR SHIPS".

Technically, he didn't.

To OP,

The solutions you outlined were on these forums already, on day one of Incara. The EVE player base can be abusive but I've never met a more devoted bunch of gaming peeps.

LETS BE HONEST HERE!!!

CCP are trying to "milk"(their words) EVE players because they want a console FPS & Twilight MMO. They need more money to finance these projects, FACT!!!

It's not like EVE is losing money.

IMHO they are trying to do too many things at once and losing alot of trust in the process, can you buy trust in the Aurum store yet????

Some of you may know me as the ****** from the Alliance Tournament, but in my spare time I'm a diplomat for Test Alliance Please Ignore.

In the past week I've seen the forums go to hell in a hand-basket, and I think that maybe the mob mentality has gone a little overboard. People are demanding the total removal of Incarna and a ban on even Vanity Micro-transactions. This **** has got to stop.

What CCP should do:
1. Reinstate the old hangar as the view for those who have turned off Captains Quarters. The new system makes traditional fitting, especially for capital pilots, more difficult.

2. Ensure that Incarna works with an acceptable range of modern graphics cards, and does not launch with graphics cards that will be damaged by it.

3. Add some lower priced Items to the NeX store. $60 monocles are fine, as long as you provide a lower price option. There is just as much a market for plastic Mickey Mouse watches as there is for Rolex watches.

4. CCP has already promised that there will be “no-gold ammo” so the pay-to win front has been covered

The one thing that has me the most nervous about the CSM meeting, ship hanger. Aside from the MT for win, getting the ship hanger back in it's original form with an option to exit to CQ needs more discussion. The prices of vanity items in the store don't concern me one bit.

I think the buying advantage out of the store and bypassing the eve market was a gripe from everyone. While I agree that PLEX>ISK already did this, it's in a round about way and not actual ammo/guns/modules and ships in your face offered in the Nex.

Everyone has their own reasons for protesting. Some people are protesting for the simple fact we have any MT in a subscription based MMO, I can't find fault with these folks. I am personally not pleased, it would have been an interesting marketing tactic for CCP to advertise EVE as MT free. However I am not upset enough over vanity only to cancel. Make not mistake, they opened the door and now we will see how far they will swing it open.

Personally, my last big complaint is CQ auto-loading on dock, and losing the original ship hanger. If MT for non vanity is never introduced I think I am good with staying although losing the ship hanger is a huge blow. I guess will just wait for the CSM summit. Oh, one last thing, Hilmer really needs to address the community.
