Perpetuum, only 7 months old is a very impressive single sharded sandbox mmo. Very much like EVE in many ways. I find the combat is much better because what you SEE outside of the UI matters unlike EVE.
In perpetuum you can hide behind obsticles to avoid fire, different types of weapons work better on different terrain. Different robots can travel up steeper slopes. You keep your own range, not set an orbit or keep at range. The combat is much more player skill based and less ingame skill and ship quality or type like eve.
Being a better skilled player actually matters in Perpetuum, unlike eve where the player with the better understanding of mechanics wins.
At the same time as combat is vastly improved from EVE, almost all EVE's systems are also featured in Perpetuum.
Nice picture. If I was a Peretuum dev alt posting in the EVE forums, I'd be hiding my face too. Mr Epeen |

Seems like it has considerable depth. The UI is a bit hard for me to manage, but then again, I am still a nubb. I like the interaction with topography. It is definitely worth downloading the client and checking it out on trial. I think that some patience will be required, as it has complexity comparable to EvE, but not much in the way of tutorials/guidance. ATM I am trying to keep in mind how disoriented I felt when I started EvE. Helps quite a bit. Oh, the Dev interaction is quite refreshing. There is a recent podcast geared toward the EvE influx that gave a nice feel for the depth of the game. Podcast |

Maybe in 2 or 3 years it will have the depth worth of EVE, until then its only for the those willing to put up with a very raw game.
CCP has nothing to worry about with that game. |

This. It's a pretty sweet game, yet so new Wikipedia doesn't even have a page on it yet. |

Why?
Because perpetuum is planning on introducing an ingame cash shop, which allows you to customise your avatar/robot.
Hey, now that sounds like clearly communicated intent, which begs the question why you find it funny? It isn't absurd, like you probably find it with your tiny mind, but a perfect highlight of what is wrong in CCP right now. Also, the way that you describe what will be made available doesn't sound like gameplay affecting items. I have no direct knowledge of the other game myself, so this is simple reading comprehension at work. To sum up, describe how it's funny please. |

THIS ^ My coworker who apparently will be unsubbing has tried it out, and this is what stood out to him the most. Whomever commented above that said this was 'needy' is just mad. Lord knows while CCP has been at this for a while and taken a typical customer service attitude that I'd expect from a minimum wage employee working in a retail or fast food store, be it internet pixels or real life goods/services, customer service is important. The lack of a sincere apology, not giving a flying **** about its customers/subscribers, and gagging or banning people speaking their minds, is only strengthening the wall between CCP and its player base. All the trolling in this thead is, in all honesty, fear. Those trolling are getting worried. I wonder if CCP is getting worried? Probably not yet. I know if they do financials on a quarterly based report, they'll certainly be worried at next quarter's report. A dose of humility and perhaps a return to customer service will do the trick. Question is, will CCP take heed? I know Perpetuum has taken heed, LOL. Best business model ever. Wait for the other guy to completely **** off all his regular customers, then offer them your stuff instead. |

not true.
You can only resist Perpetuum for so long before you try it and realise it is better.
Just started today, it is actually pretty fun. Like EVE without the :ccp:. |

Both of you are bad trolls. Perpetuum is a single sharded mmo like eve with thousands of players. |

Tested this game.. i mean when i saw EVE i was in love.. i had my subscription before the end of the trial. This game isn't anything close to eve.. If you think you will find a new game like EVE your going to the wrong place.. maybe abit of vacation while you cool off maybe.. i quit playing after couple of hours.. it was damn boring game..
EVE might have its good and bad.. but when it comes around.. there is nothing like EVE out there.. |

The game can be more fun since you physically control your robot with WASD. EWAR is more integrated from the ground up (as opposed to eve which sorta tagged it on and isnt used as much)
It is very much like an early Eve Online with a small dev team that you can actually talk to in-game. But it was suffering from a lack of players since they havnt really done much marketing yet. The player graph though, has indeed doubled in the past few days.
skill points accumulated and then you spend them, unlike eve where you train a skill.
It does have the potential to be as popular as eve, so worth grabbing an account.

Originally by: Flamespar I have played Perpetuum.
The communication between the Devs and the community is really top notch.
Whilst the game has had some minor issues, they really seem to be focussing on making sure features work and enhance what players want to do.
Rather than saying to players 'this is what you will be doing' (ie the current EVE online model), they seem to be working with players.
Plus the game is cheaper per month.
And you will be able to have pink robots.
I played in closed beta and I can say that the only reason this is the situation is that the game is new and they have a miniscule number of subs as compared with EVE. If they did not do the above they would be shooting themselves in the foot. I do not agree with the road that CCP is taking, but I do not think the apocalypse is setting in on EVE at this point. That being said this could be the push that gets Perpetuum of and running. It will be good to get back in and see how things are going in about a week when I get internet back at the place. Slade |

just seen this post by one of the perpetuum DEVs Originally by: DEV Calvin Well, this wasn't the day we fixed the server. We are going to get some rest and carry on tomorrow. We have isolated where the problem is, so we did make progress today. Until then a 350 player cap is in effect. At the moment we do not have the tools to make distinction between paying and trial players. All this time we spend chasing this issue will be free of charge to all of you. We are very sorry about the inconvenience, we will do our best to get this out of the way!
