This is the thread where we keep track of the people who don't care about the current nerd-rage forum revolt.

So I hear theres 2000-3000 players canceling, or not renewing their accounts.

I think that EVE can afford to lose 1% of it's player base considering Incarna, DUST and other features coming in the future will easily attract far more than that number.

lol @ protestors

lol @ false logic.

There won't be any DUST nor WoD because:
It has been more than clear (due to leaked documents, leaked email and reviews of ex-deployees) that CCP needs $$$ to fund DUST and WoD, plan was to use MT in EvE to increase the income for the just named projects.

52 monocles sold so far (70$~ each, one time seller).
2400+ accounts unsubbed (14.95$ / 14.95€ each per month).

Now, do the math.

Whilst i agree with your post.. I must also LOL @ your false response..

You say 52 monocles sold... yes... but what about every other vanity item you cannot just include the most expensive item for a total, you must include ALL items and i would wager a bet that a lot more money has been generated by the lower level vanity items than the higher up ones..

Real life example.. Car companies/Electronic companies etc... sell far more of their lower priced items and only a few of their top range items, but its the lower priced items that keep the company in profit, and top is just for show....

You are totally incorrect. The email indicated that the monocle sales exceed all other vanity items combined. So go ahead, double the revenue from the monocle sales in your math. It's a drop in the bucket of lost accounts.

Well for the last 9 years CCP has been making plenty of money out of thin air (20$ character transfers, 20$ portrait modifications) people will continue to spend money on stupid things they don't really need. If CCP wants to offer people the option to spend more $ on pixels, im all for it.

also consider how many monocles were purchased for ISK (probably all) and how many of those were just purchased for lulz. CCP shouldn't be taking that as an indication that MT is doing well, they should see the combined sales of the other items falling short of the monocles as a failure.

If that would be true, why did he only mention his 52 monocles in his mail?
Wouldn't it make more sense to write down the most obviously income which in no doubt were just those 52 monocles?

They could of course dumb down the game so that's it's easy for 12 year olds to play with no real trouble. That would help subs doubt it'll improve Eve though.

You don't think very far do you. The more that cancel subs, the less revenue CCP gets, already closing in on $500k annually. They don't get less expenses though. And they are most likely already running short for both the Dust and WoD development. They most likely predicted an increase in EVE subs when they comitted to those projects a few years ago. Active EVE player numbers have not increased very much in that time frame.

And since many that leaves now, are older players with 2-16 accounts, the F2P/W2P kiddies you expect that MIGHT follow, will likely have 1 account each.

So guess who they will be footing that bill to? Yeees, to you that remain. This money MUST come in, they have no other choice but to increase the sub costs, P2W MT stuff and other ways.

People arent coming into EVE to play Space Barbie. That will grow old real fast. And Dust is an exclusive PS3 FPS. Those kids wouldn't have a PS3 if they had a decent PC, so they're not coming either. Besides, not the same game genre.

At this stage, the number of people that stop playing isn't really the problem for CCP. The problem is that a lot of loyalty and trust have been lost. Those who leave will tell their friends and other gamers, rest assure that gaming sites and forums will write about the new CCP as well. Many of those who stay will have a grudge and relation between players and company will grow worse. Many will reduce the numbers of active accounts.

In the eyes of many players, CCP has changed from being one of the most respected companies to something to they despise. The community and the company isn't "we" any longer. Their word will not be trusted any longer. Even if they bring good news, many will wonder what new greedy scheme they are trying to draw our attention from, or if it's just a play for the masses before they make changes for the worse.

Most players didn't even care about WIS before this patch, now a lot hate it simply because it is forced and because CCP showed us that WIS is all about MT. How many believe that when we get out in the stations, we will somehow be part of the player market? Ambulation isn't about immersion any longer, it isn't about expanding the world, the goal is to create a secondary way to give money to CCP.

True or not, the problem is still how players view it. Both those who stays and those who leaves. You think players are causing a fuss now? Just wait until next time CCP do something the players don't like (even if it is something innocent such as a bug). It will only grow worse. There are so many who lost their love and respect for CCP and they all know that CCP doesn't care because they are happy as long as they get money. This isn't an accident, to trade respect and trust for money is a a choice CCP think is worth while.

It isn't just the usual crowd that is upset. It is all kinds of Eve players. Even some of the hardcore vets that have been here since the start is walking out. I don't believe it will work to be despised by a large part of the community. It sure can't be fun for those who work for CCP to be viewed as people who only have one purpose: take as much money as possible from the players. But here we are. The image of CCP is forever changed and I believe that can only lead to bad things.

We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.

But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.

Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.

This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.

Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.

We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.

All that said, I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before.

+1, and yes, can't wait for a moment when CCP will start banning those lemmings. Less idiots = better game.
Or we can just wait for 5 more days. Gyaaah, I can't wait :3
