They answered the question, you just have to read between the lines a little Crying or Very sad

If you try hard to read between the lines, nothing would ever mean what it said.. Im just a returning player (re-activated my account today), and suddenly all hell's hit the fan's... I havent been involved in the run-up so I might well have missed out on some info. But using a purely logical view on the wording provided, the question "Will MT be limited only to vanity items?" .. was responded to with "Yes."

Done and dusted.. ?

Man, you opened a whole sticky for people with severe hardware issues regarding Incarna! I can actually run Incarna just fine, but it seems half your playerbase is having immense problems with it, ranging from severe lag to overheating. And you punch 'em in the face with "one of our more smooth and successful expansions."? Seriously?! This is your reply?

Pann had a lot more tact. You could read in her words that she didn't know how to salvage the mess either; and she was no doubt expressly forbidden from saying anything real. But, for crying out-loud man, at least she tried!

I can only reiterate what others have said far more eloquently than I ever could: you have suffered a total disconnect from your playerbase; you are not taking any of this seriously, and instead you're p*ssing on your customers, without even the courtesy of calling it rain.

What really annoys me about this whole situation is that EVE is already more expensive to sub to than any other MMO on the market.

The arrogance displayed by Zulu is just breathtaking.

Well, at least you attempted to address the issue. But perhaps you should have waited? You're anger towards your player base is obvious in the tone of your article.

1 - Be the bigger person/professional
* Yea some of these guys, your friends, are taking flak. But thats what happens when you throw a raw carcass into a wolves den. You need to remain calm and explain what the newsletter was in a neutral tone.
2 - Don’t Reprimand your Players
* Seriously, they're your customers. They don't have to take **** from you, they can act as they please and they pay to do so. You should be happy to have their business and lucky they're so passionate about the game and give you almost instant feedback.
3- You never tell your customers to "deal with it"
* Lets take things back a bit, if a customer came up to complain to me years back when I was a grocery clerk and I told them to deal with it, I'd be fired before that customer had time to walk out the door. I'm not saying you have to do exactly what that one customer wants, but you need to be at least receptive and as helpful as possible, and this is not it. (Plus its a little more than one customer.)

I predict this blog will be taken down, appologized for, or expanded upon in the future. If you cut losses and simply do not re-address the situation then this leaves a bad taste in everyones mouth. Both the Players and CCP.

That "smiling CEO" here and there in your videos, or blushing in the last E3 convention, about "Dust", should think about some better employees, to really survive.

... if in lesser than 24 hours nobody will show with:

  • some excuses,

  • any clear schedule,

  • a «Sorry, really, we turn back to previous NON-Incarna version, because we messed it so much AGAIN (... ahem... and THIS is not "a random new forum, BUT the game" itself)...»,

THIS from CCP ZULU will turn to be not so «... Incarna - which by the way is one of our more smooth and successful expansions, not to mention absolutely gorgeous -...» for sure...

... I keep an eye on it... with station enviroment totally turned off.
(Better experience with a game ABOUT SPACESHIP)

In ANY CASE, removing of the past hangar view, with CQ, or without, the following functionality has been altered or flushed in a worse game:

  • The ability to activate ships through drag-and-drop from Ship's Window to the Hangar's enviroment.

  • The ability to always identify the active ship at a glance, ALWAYS at the center of my screen!!!
Because an EvE player ALWAYS wanted and will wanna play with THE RIGHT SHIP IN THE RIGHT MOMENT!!!

(Am I thinking about any player undocking in a industrial ship, instead of a combat one??? ugh)

  • The ability to always instantly access ship cargo holds through double-click menus over the ship (always at the center of our monitor... as stated above...)

  • The ability to always instantly access ship drone bays and specialty-holds (ore, corp hangars, fuel bays) through right-click menus over the ship (always at the center of our monitor... as stated above...)

  • …and, of course, everyone's favourite: ship spinning. The shiny things are always ONLY ships.

... can I have MY STUFFS back???
I do not like "(Fail)StarTrek Online"... and an UGLY GAME about spaceships was BETTER than this Capitain Quarter Release!!!

“The longer you stay the more it hurts”
Pros
The Reykjavik office is very family friendly and you’ll often find children running around the office. During lunch it is also acceptable to bring in spouses and children. If you have a family and want to spend additional time with them this could be a way.

It’s a place where anyone can get a start in the industry because turnover in departments like QA is still rather high. The way you talk matters more than your actual experience and you can take advantage of this during the interviews.

The Atlanta office is a different place and doesn’t suffer from the serious unprofessionalism as much as the Reykjavik office. The sad thing is that they too pay the price by seeing their work halted for years at a time to jump ship and bandage EVE up.
Cons
The lack of professionalism is mind blowing. Procedures that are common in other companies are not used here and considered a waste of time. There is no solid vision for EVE which leaves employees with no other option than to start work and find out what is wanted by trial and error, this is what CCP means with Agile development.

Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. ‘If it looks good then it is good’ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further. Objections from employees who point this out are waved away.

CCP does not take criticism well and often ignores retrospectives. Criticism is considered to be a negative attitude and is severely frowned upon. A lot of effort goes into maintaining a good morale with a lot of internal PR. After all it’s cheaper to print posters than pay an average salary to employees.

Several years now CCP has predicated insane subscriber goals that cannot be met. Naturally this is met with scepticism by the employees but it falls on deaf ears. The result is that the company is suffering because we cannot sustain the development of EVE, DUST and WOD. EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago.

Career progression is nonexistent unless you become friends with the right clique of people and use the right corporate buzzwords. Hard work is not something that will set you apart, most people work hard until they become so disillusioned as they realise it makes no difference and slack off.

Combine this with the below average pay (CCP pays 30% to 50% less than other companies) and you’ll often hear a lot of frustration when work is discussed outside of the office by people who have been here for some time. The longer you stay the less you start to care about the game you develope, because no one else does.
Advice to Senior Management
Recruit very senior people from the games industry and actually listen to what they say. Stop believing your own hype.

hi,

first of all: has the CSM been able to check out this devblog before release? (and give you few hints how to respond?)

second, let me say that i'm usually not a forum warrior - i'm not sure if i posted 10-15 times since started playing back in 2005 - but i'm reading here regulary.

so whats this all about?
-first there is a ****storm - reasons: see yout latest eve release and discussions it caused.
-then ccp pann, after nearly two days, posted sth like a short apologize, announced a devblog which will adress all our concerns and asks us to discuss on the given topic.
-then today, after over 200 pages and 5k posts (dont want to repeat all the questions asked in those threads/posts), ccp zulu released the mentioned blogpost.

this devblog comes down to sth like:
-we at ccp produced an awesome and successful expansion, unfortunately you (the players) were given access to a leaked newsletter.
-this newsletter is not the opinion of ccp but of those people writen them.
no matter what those people stated there, you (the players) should not be mad with us/them.
-the nex store is selling awesomness. those are exquisite gameitems and should be compared to RL luxury goods.
-during time we plan to offer cheaper but also some more expensive items there.
-thx for reading this devblog; now your main concerns should be answerd, please go on.

let me comment that.
i'm not sure how to address and answer all those questions - even if only 5% of all posts contains a question worth asking there is a ton of answers to be given. unfortunately it seems you (CCP) didn't do your homework; let me try a comparison: if you were deaf, blind on one eye and could only see about 60% on the other you could not miss those threadnaroks out there!!!!

this devblog gives nearly no new information, no answers, no apologize to at least calm down some overheated players/forum warriors. instead it gives us even more reason to be upset.
if you read it a bit more closely on the arguments/explanations there(if there are any at all) and notice the way it is written it's insulting, not to say disgusting. its a shame!!!

this devblog screams: "we don't give a **** about you and your opinion!!!" and "if you can't afford it you're not rich enough!"
i'm not sure what would be the best way to write an appropriate devblog/response, but you sir (ccp zulu) are definetely doing it wrong!!!
even your comparisons with 1000$ desiger-brand jeans or golf players (leaked newsletter) show us that some of you ppl seem to need an extensive reality check!!

just few more things:
-having opinions is one thing. standing behind them an another - once you speak out something of this scale you can't simply row back and delete it from peoples minds. and it doesn't matter if you do it publicaly or in private - in public it's called "coming out"; it shows your real nature.
-those f****** on financial reating agencies also use to hide behind the statement that their ratings, which ruined whole countries, were only their opinions.
-btw. i know icelandic banks were hit hard by the financial crisis, but i newer tought you're in such need for cash.

ps: i'm not sure that volcano up there only spit some ashes into the air back then..there could be also sth. else in the air..something that makes normal people lose their sanity.

i'm really dissapointed.
over and out.

Hey all. To clarify this blog, its intent was to address two topics and two topics only;

1. What Fearless is and the nature of its content
2. The pricing strategy behind the NeX store

I do realize there are other concerns you have and those will be addressed, but doing it all at the same time would make the messaging tricky and muddled and not allow for a focused discussion. I understand a lot of the frustration going around but if we want to discuss then we need to do so in a constructive and focused manner.

Thanks,
Arnar

No, they won't. Answering our concerns would mean promising no MT for win, and the failure of anybody at CCP to do that single, simple thing proves that it's going to happen.

You want to address our concerns? Get hilmar out here, on his knees, begging, promising no MT ever and explaining how the corporate culture responsible for this travesty will be fixed.

Until then, **** you too. My three accounts run out in july and august.

I think *if* there's one thing that was right about the devblog is that yes, we shouldn't single out individual devs and request that they DIAF. Some of them are probably just as unhappy as we are. It's crossing a line (Hey, just like MT!)

Oh, also - can those players who've payed for the next 3 months get a refund please?

the whole EvE experience is turning out to be a bit like this :

you buy a GPS system. It serves you well for years and you get to your destination without any problems. You're a happy person, because you get what you pay for. You get even more then you pay for, because this particular brand cares about its customers and updates the maps twice a year and gives a lot of free and handy apps.

All of a sudden, the company forces you to install a firmware update, which turns your GPS system into a jar of faeces. "What the hell", you say, "I dont want this update, I want my trusty GPS back". To which the company replies :

"LOLOLOL, HTFU, WE NO LISTEN TO U RETRAD"

We paid for an awesome MMO, which was sold to us with the promise of being awesome, different and special. Don't be surprised we're ****ed off when you want to turn it into something nobody wants and nobody signed up for...

Thank you, Zulu for a blog that actually answered every question we needed answered.

And guys, before you flame me, he actually DID. From this "blog", we now know these things:

1. There ARE going to be non vanity RMT items. They won't say it because they know this will only cost them MORE subscribers sooner. What is clear is CCP is set on their path, there is nothing we can say or do, short of unsubscribe in enough numbers as to send them into receivership that is going to change this. RMT is here and it's here to stay. Everything you read in the newsletter that you don't like is on it's way. Don't like it, LEAVE, it's coming.

2. CCP isn't going to lower the prices of the RMT items because they consider it fair to charge more for a virtual piece of clothing than a real piece of clothing costs. Indeed, they are so convinced of this Zulu mentions that EVEN MORE expensive items are on their way to the cash shop. From this you can infer that player made clothing is never coming, think they are going to allow YOU to compete with their $70 eyewear and $30 skirts? Don't like it, LEAVE, it's here to stay and you are only going to get MORE of it.

3. The station interface isn't changing. Incarna is everything they hoped for. Blown video cards and such represents what they consider to be a flawless patch day customer experience. Don't like the interface? You can turn it off (for now) but see that DOOR in front of you, take it as a hint, LEAVE.

4. Fearless. Zulu, fearlessness isn't a virtue. There are animals out there that are fearless. One such is called a lemming. It will fearlessly follow other lemmings right off a cliff. That is exactly what CCP is doing in forcing these unwanted changes on us. You are doing so fearlessly, following everyone else who added RMT.

Fear is a very important emotion. No, one shouldn't be ruled by it, or give into it. But it helps you make better decisions. Fear is a warning. Fear stops you from doing something really dumb. Some fears are healthy fears, such as, fear of God, fear of "will I have a job in 6 months if everyone is actually angry enough to QUIT over this?"

You get the picture.

As I said, this "blog" told us everything we actually need to know: What is here is staying, there is going to be more of it, and YES, RMT will touch every aspect of the game. We either like it, or leave.

I vote we leave.

5 subscriptions canceled, and I won't be coming back.

Good luck, CCP, in either replacing us with enough new players with deep pockets, or in finding new jobs over the next 6 months.

Goodbye, EVE, it was great knowing you. I am honored to have played with two of the greatest player bases ever (SWG and EVE) in the two best sandbox games ever (Pre-CU SWG and EVE). Unfortunately in both cases the publisher got greedy, decided to not listen to the people who merely make their livelyhoods possible, and pressed the SELF DESTRUCT button.

Well said. +1

It needs repeating. I am not going to stick around and pay for them to implement anything pay to win in the NEX shop because by not addressing it, CCP Zulu has confirmed that it is coming.

I haven't finished my reply on the threadnaught yet.. I can't seem to get the wording right, this game just means a lot to me.

This blog however, basically states the internal document was a newsletter designed to start/continue a discussion. That's fine. I don't believe it's just that, the section on pages 8-9 show a clear intent to introduce non vanity items for AUR, but if you say so.

Unfortnately, that blog was pretty bad considered what it contained and how long it took to come out. Given what it discussed, that could of been put together yesterday.
I would be ashamed to put my name to it.

It appears it is now a battle of Wills. CCP vs it's player base.

Irrelavent post. I want a post from the CEO (aka Hilmar), what his goals and direction for the complany and for Eve-Online, not a post from a peon CCP. Sick of it. Only then, there wouldn't be "we" as CCP, but rather "I" from the CEO.

I want to trust CCP. I went to trust Hilmar as much as I trust Gabe from valve (and 275+ games purchased from them).

Just a thought....

Dear concerned citizens of New Eden

This week has seen quite a controversy unfold. In almost the same instant as we deployed Incarna an internal newsletter with rather controversial topics addressed leaked out. To further compound the confusion there was a clear and rather large gap in virtual goods pricing expectation and reality with a large segment of the community. I‘m going to address several issues now.

Fearless

While it‘s perfectly fine to disagree and attack CCP over policies or actions we take, we think it‘s not cool how individuals that work here have been called out and dragged through the mud due to something they wrote in the internal company newsletter. Seriously, these people were doing their jobs and do not deserve the hate and ****storm being pointed at them.

Pricing structure

People have been shocked by the price range in the NeX store. Being new to micro-transactions the NeX store will be a learning experience for CCP and the player community. Prices will be adjusted as we look at items and sales. How much money will players spend on clothes, glasses, rings, and various vanity items? We don't know. How much will you being willing to spend? I think it's something all players will have to think about it. The industry has shown that a small percentage of players will spend large amounts of money on vanity items, and other won't. As we gather information, new products with both higher and lower price points will be made available. We hope you enjoy them and are as passionate about them as you are of the current items that are for sale.

Will there be more than vanity items?

Absolutely. Not going to dodge the question. Looking at the industry most games offer more than strictly vanity items. The key here is sell items and services that do not break the sand box or the player economy. Most players would agree we don't want to allow players to "buy success". Ships...no, players build ships. Guns, no..players build guns. Skill points....maybe...we've all at one point wanted to speed up getting the skills for a new ship, but you can't sell 5 million SP do a new player because they won't know what to do with it. An older player maybe a 1 million or 2 million SP boost with a limited number per year...maybe. Loyalty points and faction standing...again a possibility. A +1 or +2 boost to an attribute permanently or for a short period of time....a lot of questions to be asked and explored. Developers, players, and the CSM will all help with these decisions.

The Future

The industry and games change and CCP and EVE must change also. The growth of quality F2P games and games with subscription options has made that clear. Our expansion beyond EVE into DUST and WOD is a commitment to trying to meet the future and grow CCP. We have a lot of ideas and technology at CCP and yes, EVE is a way to test some of those ideas and technology but we will never compromise what EVE is....a sandbox full of space ships. We are committed to making New Eden a better world.

I urge everyone to use the forums to continue to express what you think we have done right, and what we have done wrong in a constructive and courteous way.

Thanks

CCP,

I have just about played EVE, everyday for 2-3 hours, for over 3 years. I want to join those people who love this game, and want to keep playing as long as I can. You may not care, but I'm 60 years old and still work full time.

We don't need a third monetary system. There was isk, and then you jumped on the plex bandwagon. I have not, and will not buy plex. So that means I won't ever have any aurum, thus my characters won't have a monocle. Who is God's kingdom thought a monocle would be cool anyway?

In Singularity, you gave us 3 plexes to use. Things could be purchased for 1 or 2 aurum. Turn in a plex and we got 3500 aurum. We don't need fancy shoes, or skin-tight pants, or "comando" pants (is that anything like going comando in a kilt?), or an $80 monocle. That was OK on a test server.

I've turned off the load CQ enviroment to appear, and so I have to stare at a door. That is really OK, I don't need to see my character walk around in a room doing what is really nothing. So I can continue to run missions as I usually do. We should have the option of turning those screeens off or on as, or if, we needed them.

Do not expand any other items that will have to be paid for with aurum! Don't do it! Remove aurum from the game. If it's going to cost me more money to play this game then I may have to quit too. I should only have to pay for things that I earn in the game, I shouldn't have to go outside the game to buy things in the game. The subscription fee is enough.

I am outraged by your use of the word "****storm". Because we voice our negative opinion, and with good cause, you reduce it to that. Yes, as it's been told to you before, that is pathetic. What a slap in the face you gave us.

CCP, you may want to play the tough guy, and cram this stuff down our throats. Oh, I get it, if you cave in now, where will it stop. But, we could end up losing a game, but you could end up losing your jobs.

Clearly the best PR is to insult the customer and address no issues.

Yes, Trebor said the CSM told them this devblog would get them flayed, and they posted it with no major changes.
