Many people seem to forget that CCP already had MT in game. I can already use real money to buy an advantage. The controversy is wheither I will be able to buy a unique advantage. I can already use my real money to buy a Titan through PLEX. I can already use my real money to buy faction ammo through PLEX. How CCP would kill themselves is if I could use real money to buy a SUper-Mega-Titan with Sansha-Blood-Serpentis-Unobtanium Ammo, buy my way into good standings with Jove, and pick up some missing skill-points, all exclusively with Aurum.

And that is what this devblog did absolutely nothing to address. Yes, we understand that internal newsletters do not constitute company policy. The question we are asking is What is company policy on unique non-vanity items for Aurum?

Hey all. To clarify this blog, its intent was to address two topics and two topics only;

1. What Fearless is and the nature of its content
2. The pricing strategy behind the NeX store

I do realize there are other concerns you have and those will be addressed, but doing it all at the same time would make the messaging tricky and muddled and not allow for a focused discussion. I understand a lot of the frustration going around but if we want to discuss then we need to do so in a constructive and focused manner.

Get typing. You have a lot of F*ING explaining to do.

Posting again.

What a fcking joke. I had hope for you CCP, even after that document got released, that you might have some respect for your playerbase.

Not anymore.

Seriously CCP. STOP ****ING HIRING ******S, maybe then you can deploy good and smooth expansions. And also send your devs to reading courses, maybe then they can read and identify real problems. Because this blog is full of **** and not on the topic.

i'm very disapointed to see that ccp had became SO greedy that it forget all about the game and making it more fun. CCP have became a monocles retailers because it pays much more and cost much less than developping new features.

as a sad player i'm leaving eve now.

We were waiting for a response all day!

I cannot believe it! This dev blog is even more insulting and inflammatory than the Fearless doc.
Are you doing this by purpose? Fueling the rage even more by ignoring and mocking your customers?

I am afraid that CCP lost today all its credibility as a successful gaming company and as business with future.

I cannot believe this .. is it a joke, tragedy or suicide ganking?

Forget you CCP.

We will not buy skillpoints
we will not buy monocles
we will not buy clothes
we will not buy ships

we already pay a monthly fee.

Not anymore.

We won't pay for eve.
we won't buy dust.
we won't pay for vampires online.

CCP is going **** up.

You've got to be joking right? I hope CCP realizes that this is a "Video Game" (A game played by electronically manipulating images produced by a computer program on a television screen or display.)

Why would compare a pair of jeans to your pixilized pants? So why would I want to spend 35.00 USD on a stupid pair of video game jeans. Why not speak it out with truth? "We need money", instead of lying or just introducing stupid ideas one after another maybe you should go read the suggestion threads in this forums that you operate.

Please remind me why I would want to spend 35 Dollars on a pair of virtual pants, is it so I can stare at myself while i prance around the captains quarters twirling my pants?? Instead of that, my I should go spend that 35 Dollars on a pair of jeans from a CLOTHING STORE and not get arrested for walking around naked? Shame how that works... I'd fire your marketing manager, because the idea behind this is just plain stupid.

While I don't agree with the overzealous attacks on certain CCP employees for just giving their opinions; you're really not helping the situation much with your absolutely awful communication.

The "greed is good newsletter" suggested CCP were likely going down the track of selling standings, ammo and other advantage-giving items via the Noble exchange store and as yet you STILL have not given an answer regarding that - that is why people feel so angry, upset, betrayed and IGNORED.

I hope you're paying attention because this is the last time I ask this before I unsubscribe - The only question that matters to me and lots of other players is:

Do CCP have any plans to go beyond vanity items for sale in the NeX store?

vanity items being clothes, ship skins and stuff that does not offer any in-game advantage or advancement above the rest of the players.

Greed is not good for a company that has prided itself on "free expansions" for 8 years and cultivated a very loyal group of players. If you go down the microtransaction advantages road then you've chosen greed, and I'm sorry that is a deal breaker for me.

Man-up and answer the question so we both know where we are at. Cheers.

The opinions and views expressed in Fearless are just that; opinions and views. They are not CCP policy nor are they a reliable source of CCP views as a company. The employees who submitted articles to that newsletter did exactly what they were asked to do, write about theories and opinions from an exaggerated stand.

Who asked, and why did they ask? You don't ask for a debate on a topic you don't want to do. While it may only be opinion, it speaks to intent. Since trust has been lost, most can only go by the actions. You devoted an entire newsletter to the topic, it's only natural to assume that this is something you will be doing. It would seem to be only a question as to what extent.

People have been shocked by the price range in the NeX store, but you should remember that we are talking about clothes.

You mean the clothes that no one else can see? In any case, your analogy rings hollow - it's not an argument of any merit. Aside from the physical vs virtual dichotomy, there are other aspects of physical goods that do not support a translation of concepts to a virtual good. While it might be cathartic for me to go into further detail, it seems pointless. You seem more intent on telling us what we should buy rather than figuring out what we want.

I hope I‘ve addressed your concerns and cleared up a lot of the issues you‘re having.

Sadly, you have not. There's no discussion on the subtle and gradual shift towards MT for non-vanity items, no real explanation of how you came up with NEx pricing ("it must be good if it's expensive" is not an explanation), and most importantly, the rather cavalier and dismissive attitude of many communications from CCP staff on these topics.

I wish you luck. You have a very bad few weeks coming up, both from a vocal and disgruntled faction of your userbase, as well as the PR repercussions of the negative reactions. While I am disheartened by what I have seen, I do not wish you ill. I can say, however, that the game holds much less interest for me. I cannot escape the feeling that the best days of EVE have past, and it's nothing but a gradual decline from here on out.

Dude.. I know Iceland is way out in the middle of nowhere. So it probably makes it easy to be out of touch with the rest of the world but wow.. your losing you touch with your own market base.

Your latest expansion was terrible. Something the majority as already turned off.

Your latest blog was just a bunch of flip floppin' drivel.

Remember this..

Forget that and you lose your game anyway.

Posted - 2011.06.24 21:32:00 - [618]

No, you answered nothing. Are non-vanity items ever going to be placed in the exchange? Answer that. Very simple. And tell the truth - maybe very difficult for CCP but give it the old college try. Stop treating us like we are idiots and polishing this turd, you made a game for adults and professionals and what we lack in maturity on CAOD we make up for in capability everywhere else.

And the fact it took you that long to write not even a page of text containing nothing but bull**** and nonanswers just goes to show how inept you are your company are.

I for one think Zulu is right. The internal newsletter that has caused so much anger is but the opening questions for what was probably a month or two of emails, meetings and talk over beer after the devs got off of work. untill you have all of the information behind something trying to kill everything is not cool.

Posted - 2011.06.24 21:32:00 - [620]

Two days of absolute revolt and the official response is:

"Whatever, dudes!"

I, too, want to know if non-vanity items will be coming to NEX. Based on your 'two word', I can only assume the answer is "Yes."

Man-up, CCP.

Personally i think as a group you missed to a large extent the nature (in my view) of most MT or DLC normally its for non MMOs who have a 1 hit revenue stream and need a source of income to cover sustained development and running the back end of any online system e.g. TF2 as unlike most MMOs they dont have a constant revenue stream in the form of a subscription (hellgate london proved how unfeasible that was for that type of game). So discussing that type of revenue stream for this type of game (regardless of the delicate nature of the the internal markets) is foolish and even more ironic given your 2008 april fools joke.

As far as i can tell your vision for dust followed along the TF2 lines which generally im cool with (tho the dust-eve interaction may mean a bad knock-on effect and cause more rabbling)

As for clothes i work in an office but wear tracksuit bottoms to work because i can get away with it who makes my clothes does not matter to me even when i want to look slightly better. not everyone is a label freak.

Oh and while it was not really a major part of the threadnaught you guys also need to stop ignoring the CQ vs Hanger issue.

For some you will look like the sad culmination of vainness while others will admire you and think you are the coolest thing since sliced bread.

And these are the game design thoughts going through the head of a DEV at CCP even after loud warning shots have been fired across the bow
. I hung in there for a day, but if the first offical response to their mistake is to vaguely talk about their hurt feelings and defensively talking about the game design philosophies that go into virtual clothing, then I'm afraid this game is over with.

Well, thats just horse manure. I see you guys still don't get while people are angry.

I'll be consolidating my 4 accounts down to 2 within 4 days. The other 2 accounts have upto a month left on them and I think I might just throw the towel in on those too when the time comes.

This is the reasons I gave on all of my 4 now UNsubbed accts.

Here CCP. Let me upgrade your equipment, because yours kinda suck right now.

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

I really LOVE how pompous he sounded. I really felt like he connected to us as best he possible could. Like, Louis Vitone explaining why he's selling his handbags at $50,000,000 USD each to cast members of Desperate Housewives and Sex and the City!

I really love how he fully explained and calmed our concerns for Non-Vanity items in his devblog. So many questions were answered!!

What the Frak is this!?!?

I've really been rooting for you guys, CCP. I have a lot of respect for Manifest and Fallout. I get giddy when I get tweet replies from you guys - its encouraging. I feel like Sean Connery winked at me. you know? its like that for me.

I'm a calm guy. I know you're all human and I really try not to step into the flame wars. I try to speak as if I'm actually in a dialog with you. I present my points, I address those you guys bring up.

Again: What the Frak is this!?!?

Instead of saying "Okay, here's what's going on." you guys decided to give us "Haha! you guys just don't get it! *smug look*"

You guys could have salvaged this. I've really lost faith in your ability to hear anyone. If you can't hear 2,000 protestors in Jita, 2,000 in Amarr, and god knows how many in Rens. If you can't listen to that Threadnarok over there. There is Nothing NOTHING to make us thing that you can hear ANY of us.

If CCP introduces microtransactions for anything other than vanity, I will unsub all 3 of my accounts and just play SWTOR.

Until such time as that actually happens, I will stick around.

Based on the massive outcry from the players, I doubt CCP will actually implement that kind of MT.
