Dorvab Arnst, read my previous post, clearly u have no clue about game design as well as CCP. Think. If no clockworks move in your tiny skull - stop posting. Or just from a high bridge with or without bungie.

I ignored your post because it was stupid. Doallars are worth LESS than pounds sterling, so you shot your own arguement in the foot. $15 is about 10, so they would be loosing even less money than if it was 13. Do you see how stupid your arguement was now?

While you are indeed superhuman and able to bend time and space, most of us have jobs, families and a need for 8 hours of sleep every now and then. As those needs are timed differently in different places, all of us aren't able to log in at once.

So what you are saying is, that you work in a quarry with a pick and you don't have access to modern world tools, like personal computers, at work? I sincerely apologize, now I get it. You see, I have access to computers at work and from home and I have portable computer called "laptop" with broadband internet connection so I can connect to marvelous internet from pretty much anywhere. I don't sleep more then 5 hours a day, and before you ask, I'm 28.

I actually worked for a game developer and CCP's kind of PR/double standards/favoritism would have seen heads rolling all the way down the block. Anyway, I'll have a month left to kill the angry guy in an asteroid belt a few times. :)

Dorvab Arnst, no, cause clearly i didnt even see my argument. I was correcting the poster above me, cause his calculations were higher than what they would really would be if different currencies and market conditions are taken into account.

Which has nothing to to with my point about how incompetent CCP really are, which I have clearly illustrated and given easy to understand examples for even the likes of you. The only truly stupid one in recent pages is actually you, typing posts and responses, selectively picking 1-2 sentences. U live in the US, yes? Laughing And have the attention span of a 3 year old? Get off my lawn!

You raise some valid points but then undermine yourself by insulting people like a petulant child.

To Dorvab, I'd guess that your sums are off. The leader of the CSM initially guessed about 8k accounts (iirc - may have been 6k) and then later made the comment that actual cancellations "blew his etimates out of the water and were fugly". Lets call it 3% for the sake of argument.

CCP's subscription revenue for 2010 was $57,4m and their after tax profit was $5,4m The "guesstimated" subscription loss at 3% is $1,7m. Thats 1/3 of their after tax profits. Most of CCP's costs are fixed, that is, they do not fluctuate with subscriber numbers. Salaries still need to be paid and so on. The biggest exception to this would be publishing costs which I would venture is bandwidth etc. So while not a disaster, it will hurt them if the people that clicked "unsub" do not change their opinion.

The cashflow tells us that EvE generates a lot of cash $17,4m but they burned $23,5m in development costs - presumably on vampires and stuff. One thing is clear, Eve is the current cashcow and CCP need to cherish their subscriber base. Trust is hard won and easily lost and a fair portion of the people quitting are "content providers" - FC's who corp members log in to fly with and so forth.

tl;dr? It's not a disaster but its a wakeup call (yet another)

The problem is that they arent learning. This isnt the first disaster in the last year. I find the frequency and impact of these incidents is increasing. As Ive posted in other threads I can only draw two conclusions from this latest incident:

1) Its not going to get better. We went through something similar last year, and things very temporarily improved, however now that I know the underlying causes of those issues (ie: Diverting the majority of revenue to other projects, and a desperate need to get new subs which has moved CCP towards introducing new content instead of fixing balance issues and older issues), they dont have a lot of options, and thus the course will remain largely the same.

2) Hilmar needs to go, and this isnt likely to happen. IMO, without being involved in the day to day of the CCP business, I believe he has bitten off more than he can chew. I think he became too arrogant as that is the only reason I can come up with for making such bad business decisions. Taking on one additional large project (WoD), ok. Taking on two, plus EVE expansions and attempting to delive quality on all? Bad business decision that will have significant negative repurcussions. One small company simply cannot absorbe that many changes that quickly and not suffer.

Indeed it won't as he's still a shareholder - probably the only shareholder with >1% of shares who has any idea at all what Eve used to be. In fact he's probably the only shareholder with significant holdings who could be considered even remotely "technical" - that should worry you more.

The rest is owned by VC funders - and not the most reputable either in some instances.

tl;dr VC guys been holding stock for ages; doesn't look like the big payday will happen; maybe time to cash out - one at least NEEDS to cashout.

I agree with the above^^

Sadly its up to the shareholders to replace the CEO. I also think the lead producer is lacklustre (a polite word for ****). When it was announced in the tournament that hes the bloke who tried to push through the aborted carrier changes a lot of things became clearer in my mind. That one incident highlighted the disconnect between developer vision and that of the subscribers. Subsequent events (orphaned features, *fanfare* "walking in an empty hangar", etc) only serve to reinforce this.

People have stuck with eve and its faults year after year because of the promise it offers and the hope that the better days will come. This expansion, the utter ineptitude of the communication and farcical PR were final proof that those hopes are stillborn.

The only ground this expansion broke is CCP managed to make a whole community of forum trolls pay $70 so they could call others peasants. That would be hilarious if it wasnt so sad.

++ ^^

Btw isn't there a single guy in CCP who can write up a decent devblog that is not full of hamster jokes and all sorts of hilarious assumptions and general BS.

Isnt up there in Iceland a single SANE GUY who can write us a comprehensive blog about what their plan is about the game and all that station carp instead of showing that under NDA mind you to the puppet CSM, who then comes out with 3 cliche lines? Or how exactly is DUST gonna interact with New Eden? Is it just a money sink for the economy, and crap vanity items for DUST players, or its a AURUM machine, introducing more ploblems and solving none? Srsly, if you need a PR guy at least hire someone who has played this game. Hell, even I can do i better job with my eyes closes. CCPs eyes are closed alright, its just them not doing the job either.

Cause it may be a shocker to some, but when u come out like CSM and CCP did in the last blog and tell ppl - "all is well, nothing to see here, move along, and yeah yeah, we will get your stinkin spinnin ships back, what IS the big deal" a good deal of them will actually MOVE ALONG! Right through the lowrez.jpeg door of doomArrow

sounds like young girl doesn't it? "He doesn't even look at me. But maybe once he will love me....."Rolling Eyes

I suppose you can be right. However i don't see reasons to play the game you don't like at any cases. It doesn't matter if the game can become better or not.

I don't actually think it makes any difference who the CEO is.

The die is cast - Dust and WoD dev costs are past the point of cancelling/deferring.

If Dust bombs then the VC investors will want out. While lending CCP money at 11.6% is nice business its not commensurate with the risk.

Somewhat perversely the core business of CCP - Eve - looks like a solid earner in historical terms. Nothing spectacular but solid earnings year on year. The proverbial "golden goose" even Wink

Greed is good? Perhaps not in this instance but CCP have some shareholders who can't afford to be anything but "greedy" because otherwise they're potentially going bankrupt.

NB - the above refers to CCP shareholders, not CCP as a company.

I cant call the last devblogs anything but a farce an and insult from both community and general PR standpoint (as they have been getting a lot of negative press thanks to that). So your point is? That ppl can be stupid even without a monocle? True. But it just adds so much more style and weight, you gotta admit.

Forum mods - pls continue locking topics and providing zero in the way of answers. This Is the way forward.

Any chance we can see forum enhancements like bigger avatars and special iconns in the NEX store? Would looove to get some and would greatly increase my confidence in the great business decisions that CCP makes daily.*

Just looked through the forums to see how things are shaping up. Been unsubbed and out of game for a week now and feel awesome. Razz

Will probably consolidate my toons to one account and let that one go dark while I do the mech-EvE thing. Sort of doubting that CCP is willing to pull their heads out of their arshes and really don't feel like paying for a game that doesn't get any love from them.

This is what EvE has become a blob fest and no class

CCP you have made eve into a sad game this is whats left of 8 years of your constant " improving " ...

I hope you enjoy your game now.

Soon the only subscribers paying you will be this fat kids who use multiple Bots and macros to feed their expensive toys as you can see http://kb.pleaseignore.com/?a=kill_related&kll_id=167896

Now tell me are you going to nerf their bots and macros as well or keep your faithfull subscribers who actually spend real money to maintain their accounts...

Your game is broken beyond repair no more games, that above is the reality now, live with it CCP !

I re-subbed a couple of weeks back to see if anything new had come along since I left.

Singularly unimpressed by what I saw. A half hearted attempt at WiS that does nothing but create excessive load times when docking, first thing I did was turn it off. A salvage ship that is actually worse than my Coercer fit, it's only benefit was a larger cargo hold and a tractor beam bonus but it is slower by half, even with an AB fitted and a lot less agile, even considering my Coercer has a full rack of cargo expanders and a 10mn AB giving over 700 kps. Finally, I thought the idea of planetary interaction meant flying down to the surface, not just a moon mining variation for planets.

That's pratically all that has been added in the last 2 years that I've been gone apart from a few overpriced cash shop items that are more suited to a F2P game. Come the end of my sub, I don't think I'll be continuing to play.
