there are a myriad of ways to improve the captains quarters, here are a few ideas I have.

Walking up to the balcony and seeing your ship is nice, but it has no frame of reference to perceive the size accurately. additionally, moving the small ships closer completely corrupts scaling. and the ships now float way above the dock platform.
To fix this, move the balcony and Captain's Quarters to a location where you can see objects to get a frame of reference.
Placing the ships back down just above the docking platform would help.
Some stations have little ships flying around, having those fly past and ahead of the balcony off past the docked ships would greatly aid in grasping the distance and scale.
Smaller ships don't need to be moved closer, just add a "look at" or "zoom" ability from the balcony. this could activate a loose camera like the old station environment. This could solve ship spinning demands. (it would be really neat if someday that would activate a holo-screen that made it seem like you were controlling a camera drone to zip zoom around your ship)

Race car drivers don't exit their car to get tires and fuel. Pod pilots don't want to exit their ship every time they dock. mission farming, war battles, and mining are 4 examples of times people aren't docked more than a few secs.
Let us not get out when we don't need to, we will still get out of the ship to do things that take time like PI, Market trading, eve-mails, etc.

Our avatars don't feel involved in the environment. Ways to improve this:

when we enter the station, have us appear like we just exited that pod by placing us in front and facing away from it.
as we hit "undock" have us walk a few steps toward the pod area (automatically) before the session changes.
if we click the mirror from across the room, head toward it before the re-customization opens.
I turned off CQ as the lighting was glitchy and my computer screamed at me. but maybe others noticed other things to add.

I have no intent to buy NeX items, but does Aurum have to have the same currency exchange value as the country Yemen??

Try to remember we fly ships, some of us have flown ships for many years. I don't hate the idea of having the ability to get out and walk around, but you have to take it seriously.
You have no real experience in making walking around games, so do some more research on how avatars interact within environments in other games.(even Mario did a better job of appearing to interact with those pipes back in 1985)

Should've kept the old idea from the teaser (at about 1:00) where the platform is right next to the ship and you get the full idea of scale

This is actually useful thread, so I'll bump it.
I think we all should stop raging, and think about some ideas and improvement about things we don't like.

I'd also like to see that we actually get out the pod when we enter the station and that we automatically enter the pod after clicking undock button. That would be nice idea, and also the idea with mirror.

So, the problem is that most of us cannot run CQ, because of lag, computer problems and stuff. It would be nice to have a ship hangar back, as before... and button like "exit the pod" and after clicking the button then we appear in the CQ, after a short animation.

So, this way the people who turned off CQ will have the same ship hangar as before, and those who want enjoy the CQ will enjoy it even more.

From SPACEFLIGHT you land in the DOCK. Still in your POD. Spinning ship screen.

With extra Button to "UnPod" into CQ.

And then back again.....

My idea to imporve Incarna is to remove the NEX before it gets out of hand, make CQ optional, and to fix existing problems with the game.

Additionally, future "expansions" should actually provide content that provides value to subscribers instead of just being a platform to for which to milk customers for more cash ontop of subscription fees.

Also agree. MT has no place in EVE.

I know its like irrisistible and all. But still. A little less Iceland Mastermind, and a little more Iceland mmorpg developer......
