Players have overlooked a lot of problems out of love of the game and what it represents. I think a lot of that goodwill has been squandered with the blatant cash grab. This is unfortunate.
The "in-game advertising" angle is, I suspect, what the whole deal is with forcing people into the CQ (they've said the option to turn it off is temporary). That big TV screen in there that is constantly showing info on the game will probably get about 3months run time before we see the first 5second spot for NVidia or, worse yet, World of Darkness.
It wouldn't fit well with the in-game world / lore setting to have modern Earth advertisers. Thinking about this though I thought something cool for some of you sci-fi people would be a Bladerunner Online MMOG. Now there is a world where seeing huge screens around town advertise odd commercials with Asian characters on screen and Coca Cola would fit. |

One of them notes that "a document has surfaced" that shows 5000 people are going to cancel subcriptions. The document being a google spreadsheet put together by a forum poster who is basing his numbers on posts in a forum full of alts. Ridiculous.
This post was about the breadth of media coverage and their impact on Eve/CCPs image... not so much to their contents. This is what the public sees and perception is reality... even if that reality is false. There are some good ones on the list that cover the topic in detail and other smaller articles that arent included. |

dude could not have said it better
So CCP called an emergency CSM meeting to fly the player reps out to Iceland based on "no real information?" Would Mr. All-Knowing and his SuperFanBoy care to enlighten the rest of us as to the last time that happened? |

Edited by: Jada Maroo on 29/06/2011 03:57:06 The press is really bad all around for CCP. You need only read the comments at these sites to see that. This isn't so much about individual articles as it is bad press and player reaction as a whole.
Other MMO forums are LOLing at Eve's notion of "micro"transactions as well.
In the end, though, you have to look at CCP's stated goals with Incarna. CCP's goal was not to sell 50-100 monocles for people to troll with. CCP's goal was to attract a whole new mass of players. New players who read about Incarna on MMO sites and gaming blogs and forums. New players that are now, instead, reading about CCP not giving a damn about the opinions of their players. In that sense, Incarna is a total PR disaster. |

In all honesty it really is heart breaking for those of us who really believed in the Incarna project. What CCP has done, perverted it into cash register then shoved it down our throats by removing the hanger view. The pricing, which I really don't care about, has become quite the laughing stock. The really sad part is they are going to let an entire week pass before really doing anything, and god only knows what the "something" is going to be. |

You do understand that for every PLEX that has been used by someone to 'pay' for their game time, someone had to give CCP the $$$ for the PLEX in thr first place? For someone whose corp claims to be an 'Investment Bank' you really don't understand money very well. |

Actually I had a feeling we would be where we are now after they introduced that... so no suprise there. Just didnt think they were gonna screw it up so badly. |

I'm not sure you understand the difference between information dissemination and the echo chamber. Though that's hardly surprising in the modern media climate. It doesn't matter if 500 articles are posted that say 'people are mad about monocles.' It is a story that goes nowhere, mainly because it doesn't have a lot of substance. The number of stories that have mentioned the Fearless letter's title incorrectly is a sure sign that the majority of the stories are essentially reposts, not true articles by actual reporters. Instead of calling the issue by its actual name "Greed is Good?" with the question mark, they leave it off. As do many posters in this forum. The question mark makes all the difference. The meme team working against CCP is leaving footprints and they aren't hard to find. The missing question mark is the giveaway. A real reporter (and some of those articles are of a higher quality than most) would properly attribute the name. In reality, the underlying message of those articles is "EVE players love the game so much they'll actually stage protests. The game must be awesome to generate that sort of passionate response." You'll note none of the articles say anything about game play or quality. |
