There was a thread about a week ago about how boring mining was and how it should be revamped. All the miners shouted the ideas down because they like mining how it is, and stuff.

Well why do it if it's so tedious & boring .. Then saying that i never knew what it was like 2 years ago, what did they add or change.

I don't really mind it, it has to be done, so only do it when needed. I wouldn't have a clue as to what you could add to make it more enjoyable, although many months ago now when i first started & minning seemed a reasonable thing to be doing (in some sense) .. we came up with the thought of player owned asteroid belts, then any ore you mine would either have to be stolen or you'd be given permission by owning p[arty to mine that belt.

I don't know how well it would work, or what trouble it could cause for the small guy trying to make a bit of cash while AFK mininng.

Replace mining with any number of things that haven't been added to, it isn't a special FU to miners it is CCP policy to ignore features.

lol mining.

I also think they need to make some advances to the pencil, the wheel and tables.

It would be nice if they could make mining interesting, but that'll never happen. As it is, even the mere prospect of mining (no pun intended) makes me want to slit my wrists.

What if a time came when the mere thought of mining didn't make you want to off yourself? I think that's where the OP is going with this.

I ve been positng ideas over the years how to revamp mining but I think they either sucked so bad none bothered to even tell me they did or that they cant be bothered with mining at all and they kinda accept it the way it s been since dawn of time.

Replace mining as it is with having to deploy teams 'asteroidside' kind of like a bastardised mix of minecraft, dig dug and that atrocious film with Bruce Willis where they send an oil rig dude to space to save the planet by drilling holes in something.

One can make mining as interesting as you like. One account, one mining ship and head to Low Sec or 0.0. There you go. More excitement than you can possibly handle.

quoting chribba in a Mining thread.

@ the OP, there's not much that *can* be done to mining, beyond "kill the bots". Sure, they can make it more like a minigame, or PI... but some of us like the ability to do something that doesn't take 100% attention all the time...

Mining IS boring. You know what makes everything more exciting? Landmines.

Picture the most dull and boring activity you can think of. Chess. Cricket. NASCAR. Now, insert landmines all over the board, pitch, or track. Instant excitement.

I recommend CCP randomly seed the asteroid belts with landmines that go off in your hold and destroy random stuff inside.

The only way to avoid this would be to use a "minesweeper" module. Activating the module will start up Minesweeper. If you can beat a game, then you can mine the single asteroid without accidentally mining up the landmines inside.

This will make mining more exciting and much harder to bot.

CCP needs to take a long hard look at mining. It's been the same since 06 as memory serves me. They don't want to change mining because it has such a direct effect on the economy. Removing bots, decreasing or increasing yield, making new and old players interested in doing it, or simply tweaking it, will change values in the market. So after changing mining CCP starts getting all these hate threads about ruining something or another. And the ornery bastard who has a couple million sp in industry starts yammering because they can't watch the game and mine anymore.

TL;DR: Mining is probably more of a nightmare than all the hybrid turret threads.

I've thought that if they made mining a bit like planetary interaction it would be more interesting.

Scrap the tiny asteroids and just make asteroids huge. Each asteroid can be scanned to find the most lucrative sections of it. Mining can be automated by drones and the products picked up every now and again (once a day or something, like PI). In low sec these drones can be destroyed for sec status hit etc..

Skills can effect the amount of yield/hour and the total capacity etc. Asteroids take weeks to fully strip, instead of 1-2 hours.

This would force people more into the production side of industry and also eradicate macro miners.

oh, Lady Spank, you disappoint me Mad The movie was "Armageddon" Laughing and it wasn't that bad except for breaking every known law of physics and quantum physics to mankind. Laughing Mining's only boring if you let it be boring.

Mining is a humble profession, it's the gathering of rocks. That doesn't mean it isn't important or it can't make you good money when done properly, but I think that EVE represents pretty fairly the reality of mining (kinda boring/relatively safe/eventually lucrative) vs. the reality of things like Faction Warfare and pirating (fun/dangerous/not always financially rewarding).

The problem is that when people think "additions to mining" they generally envision stuff that increases you mining yield.

There are three things that would be good for miners, and neither of them are that indeed, none of them are even additions: the removal of drone compounds, a surprising and sudden removal of bots, and a drastic decrease in mining yields.

On this note I'd like to ask if anyone knows of any long term plan that CCP has to tackle bots? We occasionally see a report mentioning the simultaneous banning of a few hundred/thousand bots and that's great, I applaud this effort as it's probably very tiring work, but is there a permanent solution in the works? Or do we have to settle for mass banning for the foreseeable future?

I think screegs hinted at something some where. But I can't remember exactly what it was. Obviously they aren't going to make public their planned methods. That would be counter productive, letting info leak to the enemy. As it stands right now it looks like the best thing we can do is to report players.

Also it would be nice if a player would be forcefully disconnected if reported for macro mining while they were in an asteroid belt. (to prevent abuse of this system.) Could also make it a bannable offense to use this for any reason but to report actual bots. This could perhaps lessen bot activity for a time, or until said account is banned.

When people ask for improvement, they usually mean changing it into something moronic like PI. The stupid amount of minerals that come from melting crap mission loot and drone compounds aren't helping. The bots, well obviously but that's not going to happen quickly. A decrease in yields? I wouldn't say I'm necessarily against it but I'd need a good reason for it. Please explain.

There needs to be added waste factor when refining anything but ore. And I'm not talking skill based. I mean a decent 25% off the top no matter what. I was reading in other threads that some people were buying items, refining them, and making back profit in a decent margin doing so. It should be very hard to do this... Or perhaps their information was wrong. But all in the same they had solid numbers on the refined values of said items. And the sheer amount that gets on the market from mission loot is silly.

I suppose CCP could refund the sp of all miners and make it world of mission loot craft. Seeing how they could care less about mining and hardly ever mention it.
