Imagine, sometime Soon™ in the future, if your UI changed depending on the race of your ship flown. Modules, your overview, buttons, capacitor, shields, etc will all be in the same place, but they'll have different colours, borders and glowing effects. Not huge glows, mind you, somewhere in the range of 3 pixels to 10.
Small phrases of size 1 or 2 text can scroll along the edges of your screen, with constantly shifting bar graphs elsewhere. All of this very tiny, transparent and out of the way. These little bits of text, graphs and spinny things should be an option on the menu, as lower resolutions may not have space for the effects. Imagine the UI as seen in trailers, but the cool looking and impossible to use parts of it will simply be there for show.
Each race will have its distinct look, and here are some examples:
Gallente will be largely green, with slightly smooth curves and a glow throughout the borders of the UI, shifting in intensity discreetly and smoothly over a 10 second period. Readouts can focus on drones and diplomatic relations of the current target.
Caldari can be a cold, metallic blue with grey, efficient looking, with extremely sharp edges and a fixed glow on certain parts of the UI. Reads will focus on firing zeh missilez, and boosting shields.
Amarr can be golden, stylised to an extent, with a relatively large golden glow. Readouts will focus on capacitor, fluctuating energy graphs and the Empress.
Minmatar can be red-brown with sharp edges, almost no glow, and the readouts will focus on speed, heat and duct tape integrity.
Your pod will either be your race, or an extremely stripped back display, showing life support information.
If your ship enters structure or the tank breaks, then the glows and overall colour will become red, little bits of text code will rapidly scroll and bar graphs will shift up and down rapidly. The transparency of the UI will shift up and down randomly (within a range of 5% of your actual value).
If you're hit by a huge volley, then the UI can flicker to 50% transparency and shake for a tenth of a second.
It'd also be shiny if the ship's UI "loaded" every time you undock. It'd only take a second, but you see modules onlining and glowing, your overview sliding in from the side and your chat channels forming pixel by pixel, with portraits loading in futuristic looking ways.
Discuss your vision of the future of EVE's UI. :)

The problem with is I like a lot of other players who have multiple accounts tend to change the skin colour and lay out on a per account basis so we can tell at a glance which character we are looking at.
Solution: A checkbox "Allow race-specific UI"

There is the question about the fact that the POD generates the UI and as every one is in a Jovan designed pod there is little reason to have a separate UI for each race of ships.
The pod would just generate the default UI the way it is now, black pearl or army green or whatever the fork it's called.

Then there is the problem of the faction, pirate ships etc. Will they have to have their own UI skins?
Seriously though, how is this a problem? It's not. Maybe they'll have their own, maybe they won't and you'll have to use the default UI.
Stop whining. This idea isn't bad, it's just not important enough to get pushed through, you know, since there's a new neocom coming soon and all that and with all the other important updates that are coming.
+1 for the future, Coming Soon™
