Sure, why not.
Incarna is pointless enough as is.
Might as well add red dead redemption style pointless ness.

I;d put my back into if and only if cheating level V gave you and advantage in card games.

I believe it's coming with the next iteration of Incarna after the June 21st expansion. Also I believe there is already a site at which you can play poker for ISK not sure of the URL but google might work.
Edit: By it I meant mini-games not specifically poker not sure it it's planned.

My thoughts are that there is an awful lot of people who are actually too bored with this game in order to actually play it. If they need minigames to stay entertained, they should rather think of quitting it. I for one log in to, you know, actually play the exisitng content rather than sitting in stations playing poker. Even if this helps immersion, the devs should focusing on existing content, yada, yada, has been discussed to death already.

I'm actually new to the game and am really enjoying it. However, I can see how you got that from my post. The only reason I suggest it is because there is a lot of inherent 'down time' from warping around. You really can't 'just play Eve'. You play Eve and do something else. I wouldn't mind gambling my ISK / Some other fun thing CCP can come up with.

Edit: Grammar

Your view is a bit limited, because your chosen activity requires your full attention. A lot of activities in EVE don't require your full attention, the activities can be handled remotely and you often have times where there is nothing really happening. I'd rather have more little things to do with other players during those periods, than just log off or alt tab and go AFK. If some of those minigames could be played while in space, that would be a perfect distraction while doing repetative tasks.

Mining, traveling in highsec, pos related activities, manufacturing, trading or scanning for sigs are just few activities that could be easily done while playing any turn based minigame with other EVE players. It's just a better way to socialize with your friends than a plain text chat and another way to get to know new people in the game.

You know what this game needs? Neckbeard racing.

Seriously. We can rank them based on weight class and quality and texture of their neckbeards.

The finish like will be 50 yards away and the reward is a Twinkie. And of course proper care and feeding of your neckbeard is critical to keep them in peak fitness. But you gotta let them out once in a while and play D&D.

This is what I'm getting at.

As un-engaging Eve is at some times, it's still fun and I'll still pay for it. But some sort of Social Minigame (Please be poker) while I make my 22 warp jump to Jita would be really freaking nice.

You have to distinguish between activities you will be able to do in stations and activities in your spaceship in space. You cannot play poker in your pod after all. Those minigames as you describe them would only be possible if you are docked in a station and typically you should have something to do while docked: refitting your ship, browsing markets, sort out your hangar stuff or manage your production jobs. You are not AFK while doing this. People who only shipspin and chat in stations, well- should think about whether their monthly fee could be spent better, but each to his own.

22 jumps to Jita or mining is another matter, but you cannot interact with other players while "in avatar mode". Thats why the typical minigames dont apply here imo.

EVE is a different game for different for people. For some people, it's Flying In Spaceships. For others, it's Working In Stations. But production jobs and playing with markets do involve time waiting for things to happen.

I think it would be fun to have things to do in stations, and helping immersion is no small thing - my housemate doesn't play EVE chiefly because not being able to leave ships destroys immersion too much for him.

And a lot of things like that require very little coding work - it's mostly art design and setup, which is a different skillset entirely, so I doubt it would be likely to be much of a drag on the devs involved in important gameplay stuff.

Reasons why I'm looking forward to table tennis in my Captains Quarters.

The card manufacturing market and the table tennis manufacturing markets are going to skyrocket.

Poker / other popular card games would be great to be able to do in stations, they should also have some sort of casino thing going on and in relation to a deck of cards the 4 suits could be Caldari, Gallente, Minmitar and Amarr or somthing.

Poker night anyone?

why are you slightly mad at those players?
- they bring in revenue and mostly don't use lag-prone resources
- they mostly take on the tedious and boring gameplay
- if catched on the wrong foot they make for good tears and/or loot
- they help CCP in advertising with PCU-records for Eve Online to attract more customers

Ok, they need Dev resources to get some content done, but looking at the state of affairs for tedious/boring activities ingame I wouldn't say that they're plentiful or pulled in large amounts from other developments.

So apparently no one knows what this is.

EVE ONLINE HOLD'EM

OOG browser based Texas hold'em. Wager your isk against other people. Very popular, very trustworthy, player driven. No need to have devs put a minigame in. As with most things in eve, if their is really a need the player base will create it with the tools given to us in eve.

*Edit: forgot to note that for more info join channels "EOH POKER" and "EOH GAMES" in game.
