High end tabs can already play EVE (just not on max settings do to pathetic GPU cooling (not much room for a real fan).

Maybe when they make a liquid cooled tab we could really play EVE (and other semi-high graphics games) on tabs. But till then, they are limited by their lack of heat prevention.

Cooling isn't as much a problem as you'd think in a tablet. It's all low current stuff so even running flat out for several hours it's likley to be well within the capabilities of passive vents and the outer case only slightly warm to the touch.

I wouldn't call the Tegra 2 and similar chips pathetic either. Sure it's not high end desktop card but I'd say equivilent to a old Nvidia 9400M in terms of performance; which can play EVE very nicely.

I did make the point in one of the Dust rage threads that there are more iPhones and iPads out there than PS3's (or indeed any console). A FPS MMO on one of those could be a killer app.

Tablet, PC, phones. Isn't it just another machine? I mean Apps that run on the iPhone can run on the iPad. Make one Eve Tablet, you can have it on phones and tablets.

It's the same problem as Mac users have in a different form (DirectX vs OpenGL). EVE is a largley x86 game. I'm sure some of the libraries CCP compile against exist for ARM (the type of processor architecture used in most tablets/phones including the Apple ones). BUT it's all the chunks of code that were written assuming an x86 processor that cause headaches.

I wish you could but you can't just drop x86 code on to ARM and expect it to do anything more than give you the middle finger whilst trying to compile.

Now fanfest did have an Nvidia dude showing EVE's art assets (and a basic fitting window) running on a Tegra 2 tablet, so there is some future hope I guess.

Hopefully whatever CCP do with tablets they a) do it soon and b) do it for BOTH iOS (Apple) and Android (everyone else).

Another thing to consider is the storage footprint of a mobile app.
How much art assets are you willing to lose for the app to fit into a tablet.

You are better off to see how CCP can expand the EveGate or the API to include market services/chat and see if the 3rd party developers of evemon or EveHQ will look into developing an android/iOS version of their apps.

True. Isn't it like 2GB maximum for an app install on iOS? I'm not sure if that's a hard limit on the device or if you can then pull in additional data as needed. I think if EVE went on a diet a 2GB footprint should be within CCP's reach. Do we really need the same texture quality on iPad as we have on PC for example.

I still say its possible and doable.

Thank you for all the informative replies.

Geee, I didn't know writing software is that difficult. I thought once something is on one platform, you can easily take the code and put into a different platform quickly.

I was under the impression that an Eve App or Eve Cafe (light but fully flavoured) did not need to have same PC graphics. It could have a simple, snappy and not graphics intensive graphics so tablets can run quickly on them.

I would love to see a full version of Eve on an iPad. Can an iPad handle Eve?

I don't think tablets can ever run the full version of Eve now or in the near future unless they are as powerful as PCs. But a semi-naked Eve is possible on tablets.

It looks funny. All of those comics are alike Shocked Are you saying I should learn how to program first before suggesting that it is easy to copy Eve from PC to tablet?

I was only asking for an Eve Tablet and it doesn't need to have all of Eve graphics. A strip down to a semi-naked Eve App would suffice.
