Is it a bug? Is it a feature? Is there an option to change it? Is there a workaround?

It's to F%$# up the botters for a few days 'til they come up with a workaround (tinfoil) |

Tap your ctrl key one or two times while not hitting any other keys. It seems to clear up what ever is telling Eve that you are pushing the ctrl key. |

that's because for some reason it got turned into some sort of psudo-toggle if you press for longer than a second it locks into a always presses state, pressing it again should clear it |

Same here... although it seems more random for me. Sometimes my ship flies to whatever I click on, other times my camera automatically moves to what I click on, other times everything I click on is targetted. It sounds like all that is explained by the "sticky keys" bug. |

I too have this problem.
Although its not actually holding down the control button, try hitting R while having half empty weapons when you have the target bug, does it reload your weapons? No, so its in the targeting side alone for that part, though there seems to be a little more wrong with it as well.
I sent in a petition, I suggest you all do the same.

It's not only the target hotkey, it's all of them. Had activate, warp-to and unlock stuck on click. Activating another hotkey seems to unstuck it at times, until it gets stuck again. |

Edited by: Barbara Nichole on 04/06/2011 18:36:00confirmed: this has nothing to do with holding down the control key. I have multiple accounts.. it seems to only happen on one account when I'm flying an orca. Quote: Tap your ctrl key one or two times while not hitting any other keys. Edited by: Archemedes3000 on 04/06/2011 18:40:45 Well clearing cache does not help, also the petition I sent isn't showing up in my petitions.
Where do i put in a petition for not being able to send petitions? lol. This happened when I kept getting dc'ed, except that i could not create a petition in the first place. As a matter of fact I have only been able to get them a petition when I had a personal problem in game. They seem to turn off the service THAT WE PAY FOR when there is a major problem. |

If i wanted targeting to be set as a Toggle button i would have chosen that in the shortcut settings now please fix the broken --"Lock Target" (Hold) CTRL + Target = Lock on-- , and let the users decide if they want to use the optional --"Toggle Lock Target" (Hold for 2 seconds) CTRL = Toggled Lock on Function-- or not TY By the way the unlock shortcut has the same functionality problem as its been switched to a toggle button.. This leads to lots of unintended lock ons and missed targets.. |

Not only does it screw with targeting, but piloting as well. Your ship will just start up and move off in that direction sometimes when you have targeted something. Really is annoying. You know if we had trainable gremlings, this kind of thing would not happen on board our ships. |

Edited by: Archemedes3000 on 04/06/2011 19:41:46OK. So I have tried to narrow down the problem a little bit. From what I can tell, its down to just a few of the Combat Shortcut Keys. Please confirm the following: - Control + Click for targeting causes single click targeting. Also, using Control + Space to stop causes this
- A + Click for Align to causes single click Align to.
- Q + Click for Approach causes single click Approach.
- E + Click for Keep At Range to causes single click Keep At Range.
- ALT + Click for Look At causes single click Look At.
- T + Click for Show Info causes single click Show Info.
- W + Click for Orbit causes single click Orbit.
For me, it appears that Warp To an Dock/jump/activate have not been effected. I tried to see if assigning a toggle lock target button would fix this, it did not. |

It is really simple: Press the control for more then 1 second and the target function toggles on. Press the control less then one second and the target function toggles off. You can see this by the targeting text appearing above the HUD. It also happens with other keys.
Unistalling the client update fixes this problem/feature. there are posts about it in the bug forum. Try and petition it.
A Corp mate already lost his ship because of this change. And I heard others have as well.

I have already tried to petition it.
My petition is not showing up in my petitions as I have stated before, anyone see theirs?
If you read the whole topic you can see that we have already figured out that tapping control a couple times fixes this, but I really don't want my control button wearing from having to do that a couple of thousand times in an hour. |

Edited by: CCP Solomon on 04/06/2011 22:14:09This toggle effect on combat shortcuts is fallout from the recent 1.6 deployment. There is a fix in the pipeline that is currently being tested and should be deployed next week along with a host of other fixes. As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, the "stickiness" takes effect after holding the modifier key for approximately a second or more and can, in most cases be removed by pressing the modifier key once again. In case you were unaware, the problems experienced this last week are due to the second phase of deploying a new UI framework for EVE, this widespread re-factoring of old code is covered in more detail in CCP Snorlax's dev blog linked below. Carbon UI Dev BlogThanks again for your continued patience. |
