Gallente have a very hard time using their blasters to there full potential as getting in range usually means you take a load of damage getting to your target and have little in the way of buffer left to survive the encounter.

to help gallente blaster boats i propose a new module - The Grapple

shoots a rocket propelled electro-magnetic grappling hook that sticks to the hull of the enemy ship, allowing you to reel them in quickly like a big fish... disengages at 5km...

have ship size play a factor in the operation,
ie. a thorax grappling a battleship would cause the thorax to get pulled at a velocity of 666m/s towards the battleship, with a 333m/s velocity applied pulling the BS towards the thorax for a total closing speed of 999m/s
if a thorax grappled a dramil, the dramil would get pulled towards the thorax at 666m/s while the thorax would move towards the dramil at 333m/s

Hell yeah.

+1 support for grappling hooks on gallente ships.

Also, it'd be great if they got a grappling hook bonus as well. Like 5km optimal/level or something.

I loled at how brilliantly simple the idea is. but i don't think it can be done, what if it's a sideways grapple? would the ship move sideways? how would you show that? how would you show the speed with the UI? How would you keep the graphics engine from getting confused and having an engine effect appear from the side of the ship?

Grapple, hmmm.... when I was a child I seem to remember some sort of lunch meat named after grapple. It was a wonderful time; my sister would dress me in our grandmothers clothes and we would drink tea and have snacks of grapple. Life was much simpler then and I miss those days.

Alliance mates and I were actually talking about something along the same lines yesterday. But we were exploring the possibility of using a combat tractor beam instead, same thing really though.

It's not like I can't think of a few precedents in sci-fi for tractor beams catching ships.

While this seems like a brilliant solution... Think of the mechanics this encourages....

What happens when multiple ships grapple? Is the pull based on sig or mass (it sounded like mass)? If mass, do plates and mwd's (which alter mass) have an effect on the pull? Does the mechanics exist for combining ship propulsion vs grapple propulsion (I'm not sure this is easy to implement)? Does webbing a grappled target work?

Do we want scenarios where:
A dram or any frigate tries to run back to gate after jumping into a gatecamp.... Add two sebo'd vexors grapple them AWAY from gate... i.e., gatecamps become sure death to non-cloaky ships.

You can now pull ships off station or away from POS shields.

Yes due to the inherent nature of EVE players something like this would be exploited in the ways you said the first day it was implemented. Maybe webbers need a bit of a buff, not back to what they once were but maybe something in between.

As well I think people are just getting creative since it's been years and years of people complaining about blasters to CCP, it's even been brought up at the CSM summit awhile back. Still no comment from CCP. It's not mentioned in the commonly proposed ideas thread either.

Could it be that they haven't found a way to fix blasters in a way that they don't become OP. I don't think so since I've seen many a posts about this wherein the changes suggested weren't gamebreaking, at least on the surface. Mostly just the buffs other weapon systems have had.

I think the problem that they really suffer from is that they pretty much got a double nerf with the speed nerf. A blaster boats ability to close distance to the target was greatly reduced as well as it's ability to hold the target there in order to bring to bear it's full potential. Granted we now have the ability to turn of MWD's, but this only works if the target ship has a MWD.

Alas it seems we will just have to wait to see if CCP does anything about. In the meantime (and I know this sucks as an option) is to cross-train into a new weapons system from another race. But that being said we shouldn't be punished for picking one race over the other.

Dear CCP,

I support the gallente buff and I think the real way to buff gallente is to buff the ships, its really silly that the gallente ships are the slowest of the need the closest distance to fight. So some things:

  • Agility/Speed Bonus to gunboats - helps the player to orbit and get into range

  • Dronespeed bonus to dronebays - helps the drone skilled players to get the drones in range or managing aggro

  • Resistence bonus to tanks - helps the weak tank to resist without cap and being slow

/not supported

Might I suggest you use modules/etc to adjust for/cover that distance faster. Your idea could be viewed as a way to use warp without being at range for warp.

Hopefully, I understood you correctly about how you want to implement this only for Gallente ships. If this module would be open for all to use, this could give NPC players and players an advantage over others; I would think you want this idea to give balance to the game... not imbalance. No?

There needs to be a Duration and Capacitor Usage. It can't stay on forever. Also, it should only be able to stay on if the target is moving under a certain speed, and if the target isn't very agile. In otherwords, fast and agile ships such as Interceptors overloading their MWDs can easily evade the Grapple System.

Also, multiple variants should be better in different ways. Longer Range, can hold on at Higher Speeds, can stay lon for longer periods of time, etc.

In addition to Grapples, we should be allowed to send our little space marine guys in to board the enemy ships and steal their ****. Hell, maybe even have them take over the ship or allow a ransom demand to be made.

An agility buff and some kind of acceleration bonus, whether as a racial bonus to MWD strength or a mass reduction in their ships.

This would mean the Gallentean ship would accelerate very fast over a short distance but still top out at a lower speed. Coupled with a TINY increase in average scan resolution this might make them better at the kind of "sprint in and mash the face" warfare that they're supposed to engage in.

Also WTB: slideybar railgun cap usage/discharge power control.

This is a great idea! It would end gate and station camping forever! Combat will be changed to this...

1. Gang warps into a gate camp
2. Gallente ships haul the primary into the fleets optimal.
3. All ships proceed to gang up on the primary.

This might even end the blob

This seems like a lot of hassle to sort a problem that could be fixed with some changes to ships' stats and bonuses.

The Gallente blaster boats should be - at the least - the second fastest ships in their class, only being beaten marginally by their swift Minmatar equivalents. They should also receieve a buff to their powergrid and CPU so they can comfortably fit a full rack of T2 blasters, a MWD, web and a plate (800mm for cruisers and 1600mm for BC).

My proposed changes:

- The Thorax, for example, should have a base speed of 225 m/s (10 m/s less than the Stabber before bonuses) but perhaps with a 10% reduction in hull and shield to offset the extra speed. Add an extra 15 CPU and 50 PG so it can just fit an 800mm plate (which will slow it down anyway), 5x Medium Ion blasters, a MWD, web and other standard modules.

- The Brutix: *sigh* this ship is a mess. If you fit it with dual reps to make use of its bonus, then you have to fit a medium cap booster too; as a result you have little powergrid to actually fit weapons - and certainly not Ions or Neutrons! In order to fit a dual rep Brutix with 7x Medium Ions, it's going to need another 250 PG. It also needs its speed increased to 165 m/s (yes, the same as the Hurricane and Cyclone - why not?) with no penalties - it is underused as it is, afterall. Even then, fitting Trimark armour pumps or Nanobot accelerators will slow it down considerably.

- Diemost: This poor ship should at least be dignified with the ability to carry 5x Medium Neutrons (yes, Neutrons! What's the point of having them if no Gallente ship can fit them?), a MWD and an 800mm plate! To do this she needs another 100 PG. Oh, and give her another 32 m/s, bringing her base speed to 230 m/s (that's still 9 m/s less than the Vaga BEFORE speed bonuses)

- Megathron and Hyperion: I don't want to suggest further changes to these ships as I'm afraid I'm not experienced in using Gallente BS in pvp!

Even with these changes, I can't see these ships being all that competitive. Blasters themselves (medium and large anyway) need buffed. A cosiderable tracking bonus (~20%) and generous damage bonus (~10%) are needed too.

What would you guys say if Gallente started gearing their ships towards shield variety? Not using plates and trimarks would make them faster.

Of course the ships would have to be reslotted for more med slots. Maybe if just some of the ships were converted to shield ships this might help?

I have never understood why they didn't just put in electronic warfare tractor beams. If you can haul a can with 27,000 m3 or entire BS sized ship wrecks. Why not increase the power output and pull a moving ship closer. The counter to this would of course be speed tanking which would cancel out the amount of force you could apply. (or large mass ships, which are slow moving anyways.)

We were all ignoring your asinine remark because this thread is about making blasters more effective.

Let's get the ball rolling on some type of grapple or combat tractor beam. Gallente would specialize in this because hybrids are horrible.

I laugh irl reading you post but don't misunderstand me I'm not trolling you.

What the Gallente blaster hulls need is the same web bonus than the Bhaalgorn or something like "20% range an 5% strength effectiveness of stasis web and warp disruptor per level"

You've fixed 50% blaster platforms issues. Lasts 30% related to ammo dmg type/reload and 20% for fitting requirements.
The items are already there, the platforms too, all they need is serious bonus revamp.

come on, this is CCP, they would much prefer to bring something new into the game that unbalances things even more then rebalance an existing problem.
