Intergalactic would be *between galaxies.* Since it's an RP forum section, it doesn't seem likely CCP meant it to be between our real galaxy and the EVE galaxy. Galactic Summit would surfice. I'm not normally a grammar stickler, but I'm feeling picky today. Smile

I would happily second that. Just never been this nitpicky to mention it before.

Intergalactic implies that EVE is made up of multiple galaxies to begin with...which is incorrect. It is one galaxy, made of of still as of yet, undiscovered regions containing many solar systems.

If you want to be REALLY pedantic, the prefix inter actually means "within" OR "between". So in some respects, intergalactic can mean both between galaxy or within the galaxy. Very Happy

galaxy
Any of numerous large-scale aggregates of stars, gas, and dust that constitute the universe, containing an average of 100 billion (1011) solar masses and ranging in diameter from 1,500 to 300,000 light-years. Also called nebula.

Is not eve a universe composed of several small galaxies aka regions?

There aren't enough stars in Eve to even come close to the size of the galaxy. At most a region represents a stellar cluster.

According to dictionary.com...

Quote:
in·ter·ga·lac·tic ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ntr-g-lktk)
adj.
Being or occurring between galaxies: intergalactic space.

Quote:
intergalactic

adj : between or among galaxies; "intergallactic space"

The correct term for this forum would appear to be Interstellar Summit, or even Interplanetary Summit.

Oh, and IBTL.

I don't think it's overly pedantic to point out that the utterly WRONG word is being used here. It's not a conotation thing: Intergalactic is NOT synonymous with Galactic. It's as bad as the misuse of the word literally. :)

The "within" usage of Inter has the meaning of being "amidst." Something that is intergalactic would be amidst a group of galaxies. If you want to say something was within a singular galaxy it would be "Intragalactic." Intragalactic Summit seems a little redundant though, as Eve is just one "galaxy."

Oh, and IBTL.

Interstellar is too limited in scope. Due to the macroscopic nature of EVE fiction and politics, Galactic, which is more monolithic and inclusive, is the best term.

The original point though, was that, until the Dev's provide us with entirely seperate Galaxy-looking-formations of virtual stars, it's just a single "Galaxy."

Call it a Dwarf Spiral if you're too picky to call it a Galaxy, but then we might have to start talking about sound effects in space and ship momentum. :D

Well I'm pretty sure there's no mountains in here...and there's plenty of peons in here, so the bottom one would prolly best apply. Or does it?

Methinks the lady has hit the matter on the head.

This thread is asinine and also against the forum rules to post here in the first place.
