I started playing eve online back in march of 2004... walking in stations was mentioned a few years later with a video that was posted, i believe on massively.com that apparently looked nothing like what CQ looks like today, so i am guessing that the earth and beyond style avatars and graphics was scrapped, and they completed started over.

Now, graphics look awesome... don't get me wrong... if i was playing any other game, this would be cool as hell...

but... what were you all doing the last few years? to release this garbage? What does this have to do with internet spaceship pvp game? Not to mention, after all these years, you havent done much of anything... all we get to do after all these years of work is walk around and do they same things we can do now but in a more graphically intensive way?

Why not work on Lag with all those years of effort, or redesign spaceships or add new regions, or new content... tangible content.. not this crap... 7 years of paying you $15 a month... and this is the level of your capability after all these years and all the new talent you added?

i am very much disappointed.

sorry for the rant... but i just cannot understand what ccp has done here, or why they wasted all this effort to bring us.. well nothing.

cant wait until june 21... nothing is coming.

Nothing.

Eve is aiming to be a sci-fi simulator. Internet spaceship PvP very small subset of larger scifi possibilities. Be prepared for much more than spaceship pewpew, or, can I have your stuff?

...sarcasm obviously

CCP cant develop decent new content and trolls can't seem to come up with anything better themselves with comments like these... haha.

oh and since i am ranting and this is my thread... i would like to add additional comments regarding the changes coming to 0.0....

CCP... please explain to me why left hand cannot communicate with the right hand?

You tell us to build a home in 0.0, then you tell us we got too comfy? nerfs are not the way to a paying mans heart... we do pay you know... and all the while empire remains the safest bet for making isk nearly risk free. Why not just tear down all the patches for the last 7 years and start over... apparently that is what you are attempting with the 0.0 nerf? lets all move back to empire?

i don't get it... we had a home that we built, so we could defend it...... just because we are not swapping space as often as we used to doesnt mean we don't pvp anymore... we just spent 100's of billions building up our new digs... we aren't in a hurry to start all that over again...

we still play for the pvp.... why not add more chocolate chips rather than take away all the cookies you baked for us?

common sense.... its not for everyone, eh CCP?

Yeah right. Incarna is a test for the World of Darkness MMO which has a much higher possible playerbase then SciFi even disregarding the nature of EvE.

I mean we might get some cool stuff put in EvE, but it will only be so they can test it for WoD/Dust514.

Instead of being happy as a niche company CCP want a big player base.

so you are saying the game has not changed at all? i don't get your comment... if you are high as a kite right now please allow yourself to sober up a bit before you post again...ok? take it easy on that reefer geez.

Sure there have been expansions... and they have been anything but incarna... thankfully... i like fancy graphics, but not at the expense of gameplayability.... i want them to work on lag and bugs, and adding real content for 0.0 (not more empire crap).... but instead they focus on things that just kill their own playerbase and alienate their own fans and customers.... ccp has hit its peak... it should be trying to keep the playerbase it has... it will not add significantly more... if anything i expect playerbase to dwindle a bit. I will always sub to EVE... i love pvp, just dont like the direction they are going trying to become the sci-fi version of WoW.

I agree with your comment as watching the video just made me say.. umm hmm ok............................................................... So............................Those stuff I can do in the station.... And now there's an option of walking around to actually do it? But then this adds more time into playing the game that there's already session timers.. Lag... Jump times... Aggression timers... Wait.. Wait.. Loading... Loading

Now wait walking in stations?? Neat er um but... Loading loading loading ;p Isn't there enough time which requires to play EvE?

I love the new feature though and I'd say I can't wait for it, it's better than nothing after all - What I don't like though is the WoW comment, WoW has alot of content though and is a great game idk what anyone thinks but don't focus on this comment

I'm just glad to think that after all this work and the work for the station environment they'll be able to focus more onto improving the game overall - GJ CCP You can rest and breath a bit now, no pressure just make 'em improvements; contents and actually please, please try not to add anything that could give a normal player having to play the game with more time investment, players/gamers have lives! Please do care - If anything lessen down the time it requires to play and enjoy EvE =P

All in all, hey; what the heck? not? :O

was typo D:

my point was they haven't put off making spaceships online for the past 4-5 years. they were putting off walking in stations. In realistically it's only be in development for a year tops at this point.

Yeah, sad to say but this is it.
As far as we can tell everything before that has simply been scrapped.

For that year the couple of peeps CCP hired surely worked their a$$es of, no doubt about that either. And as always the possibilities are great.
We´ll see if CCP´s new SCRUM hysteria will this time yield actual working code and content, beyond the obligatory "Walking in Station will be OZOM!".

i want to join CCP to help make this happen

to all those friends and family that have been mentioned in years past as not liking EVE cause they had "...no connection to a character", well here it comes...

I feel the same way OP. I began playing in late 2007 and the first thing I asked in rookie help was "How do I get out of my ship?" All of my characters were in some way created/played with relatively SOONtm being able to walk in stations in mind.

What a long time of continued dissapointment. Meanwhile I had to listen to people, throughout the years who had just started playing trying to sound like a hardcore space captain to impress people "Hurr durr I want more space action!" constantly spread wrong information about everything trying to sound like vets.

I thought "I hope CCP doesn't listen to these noobs"

But everytime they did. So, instead of getting WiS which would have brought in more people and made the game world better... As everyone wants and sees the value of a large population. We got those grrr pew pew things like FW and Incursion.

Which of course the noobs mock and dislike anyway and now, so late, almost to late we get to have bodies for the first time.

Disappointing it took this long, disappointing CCP listened to loud forum noobs.

The average players online in 2004 WERE not 2-5k. Give me a break. I've been playing since 2003 and the game was always steady around 10k and almost every sunday we'd break new records with how many players were logged on at one time (weekends were 15k). I asked a few of my friends who are also from 2003 and they all told me the same thing.

They also did not mention walking in stations til probably late 2005, early 2006 and back then it was referred to as one of the 'many things that would hope to implement in the coming expansions for eve'.

But you're trying to complain in General Discussion so I'm not expecting intelligence.

Keep dreaming.

At best in the next few years you are going to get Captains Quarters and Space Bars. Any real content won't be in for years by CCP's own admission. And given their development history will never be in.

CCP's mouth is always writing cheques it's hands can't cash.

P.S. Even in games where my avatar has a body I don't sit around in bars to talk to people. I just use the chat interface same as EvE. Incarna/WiS is just space barbies unless CCP spend an extra MMOs worth of development putting in REAL content for it. Which they won't, they will focus on WoD/Dust514 which both have potential player bases an order of magnitude larger then EvEs.

When I joined EVE late 2005 they were just proud to announce 16k and soon afte 17k users during weekends. I know that there will not be much content in the CQ, because it is just a platform for things to come and I would rather pay my money to CCP who love their product and want to see it evolve, then play a game from a company that lacks a vision for their product.

This is the old video from April 2006 where CCP showed what might possibly come to be: Linkage

I agree with OP about the incompetence of CCP. It seems all they can do is to glorify the little irrelevant things and completely ignore or suck at improving the actual game design ("war on lag" "walking in stations" > "game UI" "game mechanics" "PI" "FW" etc). And they seem to have spent a lot of time making very little stuff as well as OP pointed out this walking in station feature took over years to develope?

CCP what are your excuses? No, no one want to hear them, they are your own problems that you need to solve by yourselves and just fix the god damn game.

I call it "Valve syndrome".

ie when game companies have a steady income they don't feel the pressure which actually gets stuff released in a timely fashion.

If EvE subscriptions started to rapidly fall you would see a massive increase in productivity.

WiS, or ambulation as it was called back in 2006-ish, is just the WoD engine that they needed to develop anyway. Eve's a testbed for that. We've been greatly neglected as WoD has no income, and eve's income is being used to develop WoD... Not like there's anything close to competition for Eve... even after all these years, so we're still along for the ride.

Don't misunderstand, I still enjoy eve. I just wish ccp would finish things they started, and start more things these days.

Expacks are usually at least 2 years old. Most expacks are also usually not free.

4 years for Incarna sounds about right. CCP have no incentive to push it. Its free and people have done nothing but drag it through the mud as 'Un-Eve'. It's something CCP has wanted to do and made it happen over time.

Be sure to add Newsroom features guys. Then all those trailers can be done as ingame content, cut scenes. I know, that's 'un-eve' too but it might be fun.

On April 26th, 2004 Eve-Online hit a record of 10,396 players. This was the first time they broke the 10,000 mark.

When eve first started on May 6th 2003, (or May 7th if you lived in the U.S.) They reportedly did so with only 25,581 subscribers. So, if you think we had 10,000 folks online in 2003, you're mistaken. It took just shy of a year before we hit that mark.

Apart from it being the test for the WoD engine. For which reason they bought White Wolf back in 2006 or whatever it was.

And the problem with Incarna isn't that it is "Un-EvE" (it is very EvE), it is that it has almost nothing to do with Internet Spaceships which is why most people play this game, when the Internet Spaceships part of EvE has massive problems.

Incarna is like player housing in WoW. Blizzard canned it despite it being a planned feature because the dev time it would take didn't produce enough actual content*. Blizzard would have been mad to ignore raiding and pvp for a few years so they could add player housing.

CCP actually need to do a "Cataclysm" and re-factor all the base Internet Spaceship stuff they have been soundly ignoring.

As other people have already hinted at if EvE had any direct competitors CCP would be in real trouble. The only reason CCP get away with not doing polish is because of this. Even if the ideas are poorly implemented you can't find them in other games.

* It would be cool, but a month after it came out most people would have got over the cool factor. Like will happen with Incarna.

The main question is of course when we actually will have a full functional Incarna with player run shops and costomizable bars with dancers and NPCs, corp offices, mini-games and such.

We're nearing the first installment, summer will bring smuggling in stations but for the rest? It may take 4 more years before we have it - if at all. There's still a very long way to go in any case.
