I heard some rumors about a spinoff from Project Mirage.. for those who dont know, the project that "invented" the cloaking devices.

You know it was in a bar, and the guy talking to me had a few Vodka-Quafe too much.. But..

I heard they also developed a module, that would create - over time - a graviton anomaly in a system. This annomaly then is pumped with energy until it destabilizes after a few minutes and "goes off". The visual, the guy told me was just beautyful.
The effect is, that Cloaking Devices within the solar system fail for a certain time. Ships becomme visible and scannable.
The downside is: You need quite a few pilots for such an operation. Some (Recon-) ships with the graviton field generators. You also need logistics ships to transfer energy. AND the annomaly is visible (like a cyno is), system wide, so you need some guards. With the modules activated, the field generation ships cannot move to get safe - just like a cyno.
Failing to supply enough power or destroying the graviton field ships leads to a collapse of the field without de desired effect. So its a real team effort.

As I said, the guy was drunk and I cannot say if he is somehow involved into this technology or if his fantasy exploded after being overloaded Wink

Tell me if u heard some rumors!

Yes it is. It is just the same as any "I-want-to-rat/plex-in-complete-safety-and-anything-that-puts-a-stopper-in-that-is-bad!!!" thread out there. It may be framed in a more RP way, but in essence it is still the same.

your idea would not allow cloaks to maintain their power. and it would make it too easy for the locals to remove them.

No you see, what would really happen if implemented is the dude would still sit in his intel channels whining about reds. He would also be in his alliance channel whining about reds and coming up with dumb ideas to bait or kill them. In this case he will whine for days for some ally members to form a gang to activate such a module and spend a hour trying to kill a single bomber. Then when they waste potentially a 1bil in potential revenue lost doing other things combined to kill one afk bomber worth 20mil. They will go back to ratting for 5 minutes, it being short because another afk bomber will arive.

No. This is perfect. It has to be expensive to do, resolves a lot of player interaction AND has nearly no effect on players who are not afk, it could even open even a window of opportunity for cloaked players, if the solar eruption does significant disturbs the ships close to the sun. At the end it would be just another tool for protecting a system. There is only the small problem that afk-cloaking would still be done via macros. So nothing solved, but still a cool tool.

And anyway, what was again the problem with afk-cloaking? Fear of the dark.

You must be wrong, as this sun eruption would not stop afk-macro-cloaking at all. So it can not be a afk cloak whine as it does not solve "problem" at all. Must be something different.

what this would do is make it fairly suicidal to afk cloak. if you are actually there all you need to do is cycle through your safes till your cloak comes back up.

got no problem with a person who is actually playing a game cloaking up in a system. have huge problem with afk cloakers though. much the same sort of crap botters are pulling except one incurs the wrath of ccp and the other for some reason doesn't.

Humanity has created a few things you can do to avoid the AFK cloaker:

1) go to highsec
2) go to wormhole space
3) http://www.worldofwarcraft.com
4) stfu

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

I do believe you have just won a Gold medal for squashing the most amount of cliches and stupidity in to a post under 100 words. Also, as others have pointed out, this is just another whine from someone who can't be bothered to play the game properly by having a point defense man guarding his mining fleet.

I suggest you switch off the PC, go outside and breathe the air, and relax. Otherwise you are going to suffer severe cardiac arrest..........

AFK cloaking?
>> I don't know if we have internal consensus on this (haven't asked recently), and I know there's not consensus among the players (there was some lively discussion of this at Fanfest), but I'm very much of the opinion that it's a problem that players need to be given tools to solve.

I agree with CCP Greyscale that a tool to deal with afk cloaking would be nice.

Of course, it could also be helped with this:

>> Hot-drops are too easy - I think we're reaching a place where there's a broad consensus on this being not a cool outcome for everyone except the guy jumping in.

The reason a system shuts down when a cloaky is in system is because that cloaky may be there to light a cyno and drop a few dozen cov ops ships in... even into a cyno jammed system.

A fix to either/both of these would work for me.

The problem with afk cloaking are:

If I can't make isk/mine minerals, then how am I supposed to get ships to come fight you? With an AFK cloaky in system, it is nearly impossible to make ISK as you never know when that afk cloaky will return to his computer, pop a cov ops cyno and drop a fleet of bombers onto you and your friends.

Therefore, while appearing to be an effective means of gorilla warefare to disrupt the logistic efforts of your enemy, what this really does is force the logistics and mining to move into high sec. Great, more people in high sec. Yeah!

Oh, then you just war dec so you can still attack their farmers in high sec... great, they move to NPC corp. Oh, then you farm an army of alt toons so you can suicide gank and then meat grind the toon once sec status is too low... So they farm an army of alt high sec mission farmers so they can get isk without you knowing the toons they are farming with?

Really? This is the game you want to play?

You want to make it that much harder for others to be able to afford ships with which to come fight you?

To me, that is a problem. I think the game would be more fun if low sec and 0.0 residents were given more tools to allow them to make the isk/minerals they need for ships to fight, right there in low sec/0.0 where they live, rather than letting some guy log in, cloak up, head to work for 8 hours.. shutting down all isk making in that system as no one knows when he will return from work, pop a cov ops cyno, and bring in a strike team of bombers.

Afk cloaking is a result of a problem not the problem.
Afk cloaking only really came to be the way it is when POS got put in game.
The ultimate solution to the entire problem =

1. Delay local by 15seconds in 0.0.
2. Fix the tackling system so roaming and small scale pvp is practical.
3. Fix pos in general.
4. make cloaking have a detrimental effect on your Caps so when you decloak after being cloaked for a extended period you have no caps. Making you effectively have to recharge. before combat/even warpi9ng.
5. rework NOS so smaller ships can effectively keep their caps up with a nos vs a larger neut.

The people *****ing about afk cloaking often tend to be the ones who would cloak up/pos up if a curse came sat in their system and waited for em.

Right. The people complaining about afk cloaking are the people that are trying to earn ISK/mine minerals to build ships with which to fight.

I know people want tools to make it easy to get easy kills on people that are just trying to get some ISK. Great, force them to mine ISK on high sec mission running alts.

Then you will complain about how there are too many people in high sec grinding missions instead of being out in low/0.0 where you can kill them.

So then what? NERF high sec L4s? Okay, now they mine belts in high sec. Oh, you will want to NERF that. Okay, now they can't afford ships at all... so you have no targets.

Sorry, but people are not stupid. They are not going to do things that make it easy for you to kill them.

So, with your suggestions of delaying local, making it easier to tackle, I have to ask, why do you want more people to move to high sec to grind L4s?

The stargate to the system next door is a tool. Having a defence force is a tool. Sadly it seems crying on the forum and being horribly cowardly and incompetent is easier.
