They do kinda stand out starkly, but I still thought it was a great change over what we had. Not a big deal though.

It's simple: the new BPCs faded a bit when they were put through the copy machine.

Soooo.......if you don't like looking at them then put them in a container and open it when you need them. As far as the color is concerned they're blueprints for crissakes.

I don't care what color they are, or if they have pink unicorns on them, as long as I can tell them apart.

The only thing that annoys me is that they still look the same in the list view. I have to turn on icons (which in turn takes up way more screen space) to see the difference. A "C" tag in the corner , even in the list view, would be a very nice addition.

Hmm...

I previously posted on this thread, stating my disappointment at the new BPC design. But having experimented (very quickly) in photoshop I think I am coming round to the design.

A number of people have suggested that a good way to distinguish between copies and originals might be to implement a "corner tag", a little like the Tech II or Faction tag in the top left-hand corner. To illustrate, I created something along these lines as shown below:

Please visit your user settings to re-enable images.

It is at this point that you begin to realise a number of important requirements for the design of the BPC:

1) BPC must be clearly distingusihable from BPO
2) Design must be scalable (i.e. work at reduced thumbnail sizes)
3) It should be umabiguous, i.e. immmediately obvious what it is regardless of player language/culture.

The alternative design I have presented fails on at least points 2) and 3). You'll notice that the "Tech II" symbol does not re-scale when the icon is down-sized. This scale invariance means that the symbol is ALWAYS clear and umabiguous. However, introducing another "tag" and also making this scale-invariant simply obscures the underlying blueprint image. I have therefore broken the scale-invariant rule, and down-sized the tag in the smaller images - but now the tag requires a mircoscope to see it!

For the tag, I have used the symbol "C". However, this hardly universal across a number of different languages.

And so I have come to realise that the only alternative is to change the general appearance of the blueprint image (as CCP have done), and not add any more confusing tag symbols. I didn't commit much more time to this, but I suppose I could upload more ideas if this post continues to generate interest.

...maybe there is an opportunity to launch a community art contest for this? Or maybe not (c.f. Design a space-ship contest Embarassed).

Anyway, you could make it green, pink, hatched, checkerboard or whatever, but all would probably look no better than the current design CCP have come up with.

Just a white corner at the bottom-right, about half of the size (2/3 on smaller icons) of the tech corner one. Without any text.

And PLEASE revert this stupid colorization. It serves no purpose and not making it any way clearer.

All they had to do was take all the existing BPO and PBPC pictures and apply a red(insert non blue color here) filter. Run them all through photoshop, because photoshop will automate that, and be done.

None of the quality would have been lost.

See, I don't think its a marvelous choice, but its not so bad!

I didn't see it ingame yet though..

his point is that the new BPC prints are offensive on the eyes, they stand out over every other item in your hanger and are bloody distracting.

I agree that having diffrent icons is a big help, but jesus test the new icons on the community first before raping our retinas

have you ever tried logging onto the test server every now and then?

The new BPC icons have been on display in the planning office! (aka SiSi) ugh

To be fair, sometimes getting on to sisi is the digital equivalent of looking in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying beware of the leopard. Laughing

As long as your dropping notes, pass along a big thanks for making a good change to the game. The color doesn't matter. They're very easy to tell apart now, and that's what we've been wanting. Thanks!

you forgot point 0.

It must be quick also, when working in a pos tower with hangers of bpo's and bpc's you need to be able to identify them quick, while your design maybe aesthetically pleasing it does not jump out quickly as ccp's does.

i dont look for the little icons, i just use the mouse wheel until i see the different base colour, which is far easier to see than a small icon.

I really can't believe you guys! This was one of the best changes ever and still people keep complaining about something as subjective as a color! HTFU

Job well done CCP, don't put any more resources in this. Other parts of the game need it more!

idk what you guys are talking about, bpc icons look great to me.

what I don't get though is why some bpo icons have white border and the others don't.

no it's not done yet - they should also make bpc's with identical parameters (ML/PL, number of runs remaining) stackable.

I hate having to deal with thousands of copies I stockpiled to be invented when their t2 analogue price rises...

Also make a column in inventory list view that shows BP[O|C] parameters like ml/pl and number of runs.

Ffs, its called BLUE PRINT, and not PINK/VIOLET/RED/ORANGE PRINT.

Just put a little tag on the corner like we have on T2/3 faction/deadspace/officer ships and modules. Problem fixed.
